On February 23, 2020 the Borromeo String Quartet joined Paula Robison in Jordan Hall for a special celebratory concert playing all of the flute quartets of Mozart, as well as one of the string quartets Mozart dedicated to Haydn and two arias from the Marriage of Figaro arranged for Flute and String Quartet by Paula Robison and Nicholas Kitchen.
It was a joy to present this concert together. The Borromeo Quartet has had the privilege of collaborating with Paula Robison since 1990 when they first played together at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum and the Spoleto Festivals in Charleston, South Carolina and in Spoleto, Italy. The Borromeo Quartet worked together with Paula and her husband Scott Nickrenz for the next decade at the Spoleto Festival. Scott Nickrenz was and is one of the most important mentors for the Borromeo Quartet, being a great quartet player himself and being a brilliant presenter who never failed to help the quartet seek its greatest playing. Paula was and is a constant inspiration as a true virtuoso and an artist who always summons the real spark of creativity from herself and everyone playing with her. She also tirelessly and enchantingly introduced every piece of music played in the Spoleto concerts, both in English and Italian!
Thank you, Paula, for playing this music with us, and thank you for being such an inspiration to us and to all those that have the privilege of hearing you and working with you!
