Clark's Nutcracker Mini Documentary

- Interesting facts about Clark's Nutcrackers filmed foraging for pine nuts at a high elevation mountain lake in the Wind River Area of Wyoming. These fascinating birds are members of the Corvid (Corvidae) or Crow family that include Jays, Crows and Ravens and are smart birds that have been mistaken for woodpeckers. One of three new bird species documented on the Lewis and Clark expedition (1804-1806). They were absolutely fascinating to watch from my tree-top level vantage point as they collected dozens of pine nuts and cached them for winter.

Fascinating wonderful creation of God.

I'm noticing a crazy amount of Bluejays in an oak tree across the street! I don't remember ever noticing them frantically stashing acorns this way! I don't think I even knew they did that. It is so fun to watch them in my yard, digging holes & carefully covering each nut! They work very long finding just the right spot to dig & they even pick up leaves to cover the holes with! I've really been enjoying this! I I live in Kentucky. And I even saw my first junco at my feeder today! That was a fun surprise...I haven't had any in years!
I was 11,000 ft. on Mt. Rainer and had great fun watching a small flock of Clark's nutcracker. They were having fun with them selves, showing intelligence. That was 27 years ago, but I can see that scene like it was yesterday. Great FUN!
Thank for sharing that great story! Hope y'all had a Merry Christmas.
@@actsismmljcorrectlyobeyed6190 We had a good Christmas, thank you. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and yours.
@@davidwhite3181 Wonderful! Good news indeed! We had all of our children and grandchildren over. Very blessed! Have a Happy and Prosperous New Year.
I love these birds. I encounter them frequently around Mt Adams in WA at higher elevations right at the tree line. So smart and they definitely do not like it if you get near one of their seed storage area. They will get very loud at you. I was circled by 8 one day. They observed me for 45 minutes and eventually left.
They are smart and fascinating birds! BB
I also came here after Our Daily Bread devotion. I had no knowledge of the Clark Nutcracker. His song sounds familiar though. I don’t know if they come as far south as VA.
Beautiful birds, that's the first I have seen those.🤗👍🦜
Great camera work and narration.
That’s funny how Clark thought the nutcracker was a woodpecker. Thanks for sharing this!
Very interesting, I never heard of this bird before, it's beautiful. I always enjoy learning about wildlife. Thank you for sharing. 😍
Amazingly that the nutcracker has developed a symbiotic relationship with the fir tree. Thanks so much for the info. Beautiful looking bird. 😁👍
Love these guys, see them in the pine mountains here in New Mexico
At 03.50 onwards I can see why Clarke thought it was a woodpecker.
Great video and commentary 😊👍
I m just amazed at your ability to capture nature at it's best. Great informative information. You are absolutely the best utube channel . Thank you.😄 for sharing
Wow, thank you! BB
This was great! Loved the footage you got. This was done very nicely, TY. Sure wish we had those nutcrackers in ND so we could have a few more trees around here.
you get so many different species visiting your yard, lucky you
This bird was not in the Backyard, but out in Wyoming - I wish it was closer - lovely bird. BB
First time I have seen these birds, dropping cones in my backyard, from a large Fir tree. I see from this video the cones were dropping from the effort of removing the seeds. Princeton BC.
They're such dedicated parents 😊

Started to get cedarwax wings,,,lots of house wrens ,,,,hollyberries & nandins berries are out,,,,birds eating cause winter is round the corner,,,some will stay ,,some will make journey to a warmer climax...
Had a big flock of cedar waxwings pass through the other day! BB
I feed these birds peanuts in the shell. They are extremely noisy, I guess they are mating right now.
I fed them throughout the winter, there were only two, but many came after February. Now they fight constantly over peanuts and the female birds. They truly are noisy . you didn't capture that. Lol
Hello there. I’ve been working on a documentary with a botanist in the north cascades. He’s studying the effect of blister rust on the endangered white bark pine. We’re looking for some good footage of the Clark’s nutcracker. Would it be possible to use a few of these clips? Or are they for sale somewhere?
Thank You for your interest in our work. The video is available for use or license for a fee. For something like what you propose a nominal fee of $300 is typical. Let me know what you think? BB
Can i use your video ?
Sad to see these beautiful creatures being trapped and potentially harmed because the bird panics and can injure itself than electronics with batteries I assume are being strapped to their little bodies to track them just awful..
