I think the double layering only works if you have the older model with the four trays the newer model with the five trays we definitely don’t have the space to do that even one layer of marshmallows. Some of them got so big they stuck to the top and I had a mess to clean up for the hot chocolate toppers.
@@DIYfreezedry I’m glad the two hour Candy worked for you. I was beginning to think it was the climate. The reason why you did for four hours today I’m going to try the taffy and caramels on a two hour. I did them for three hours last night and they came out fine.
Use a layer of parchment paper on top of anything You're worried about expanding... ( Like first time marshmallow things), if it goes fine ok, if not it will/can save cleaning time.... (Ps. leave room from edge also, so it doesn't expand out the side) 😁🙏
@@DIYfreezedry I'm learning everyday too 🤣 Ps. Found out the hard way I needed to cut at least 1/3 of the marshmallow peeps off or they wouldn't come out.... Lol ( I just cut the back half off for coco, or gifts & front half with face goes in bags) I have a 5 tray medium, without a tray each slot is only 1 5/8" (about 1.5" with tray)... I don’t understand how this is 2/4 hours. After watching your videos, we took notes and today is our first run for candy. We put our settings as you have shown 145 temp 4 Hours Dry. The machine has been running over 4 hrs 30 minutes, Drying for 2 hours and it probably has another 4 more to go. Then the extra dry time. Where did we go wrong?
I see you’ve added the settings for the 2 hour time to at least 3 comments. See if you can’t “pin” a comment at the top giving these details. Maybe cut down on the question? Unless all the comments have been asked 🤗 Interesting “recipe!”

There's actually a way to do skittles in about 30 minutes but it doesn't work as well with other candy. What you do is use the functional testing part (or whatever it's called) under the leaf icon in the corner. First you do a test for heat only until the trays are heated up to 150. Then run the vacuum test. I usually let it go for 20 minutes but honestly I think they're done sooner than that. The downside is that it gets the oil dirty really fast. Which makes me think it might be hard on the machine in some way. But it works.
Freeze dried candy is not done by sight. Those could easily be under dried. Didn't even try one to test. Rushing candy produces a subpar quaily product. I run mine for 3hrs, 4 hrs may be better, but 2 hours is too short.
I disagree. "Freeze dried" candy isn't even really freeze dried. You're just using the vacuum to cause the candy to puff up. At least with skittles. Other candies might have moisture that would be an issue.
@christinerenee5616 I can make what looks like FD skittles by microwave warmimg the skittles then place in a vacuum chamber sealer for 90 seconds doesn't make them properly done, they are fully puffed up but not fully dried. Candy isn't technically FD it's vacuum dried with a cold trap. Technically, a FD isn't even needed.
Settings : 145 dry temp, 2 hour dry time, turn on candy mode after 15 minute cool down, skip tray warming ❤
So no freeze at all?
