This song is about wishing nothing but happiness and fulfillment for my ex. Since she didn't really love me the way I loved her, I know she wouldn’t agree with the lyrics in this song. But I know how I felt about her and I know my love for her was genuine. I once hoped that any new guy she chose would love her just as much as I did because my love was real. Now that I realize she was playing me the whole time we were together, I have to be honest: I don’t want her to have the same kind of genuine love I gave her until she understands what real love is. Otherwise, she might treat someone else the way she treated me, and I wouldn’t wish that on anyone. My hope for her now is that when true love does come along, she’ll appreciate it, protect it, and give her love back in return. Real love. Not something superficial and temporary.
