I’ve always been intrigued by the way that some quirks have an effect on the user’s physical appearance, without that being strictly necessary. Like, if your quirk is having wings or being invisible, it makes sense that it would alter your appearance, but then you have characters like this or Tokoyami, that inexplicably have heavily altered looks without that directly influencing how their quirk functions. I suppose it’s just an excuse for interesting character designs, which I can’t really fault.
Quirk are essentially cantrips as hero persona. The whole X men genetic is the English dub dropping the pretense this is not X men. Quirk are not genetic but personality based. So supposedly just as there personality give them power they change there appearance. So they girl with ear thing is based that she is into music not build herself around her born power. This all drop because well not even English dub care to pretend what this was so they stick with the genetic thing. Personally I prefer they stick with superpower as actitude/mood/personality quirks than genetic is magic. Is a Lil to eugenics for my liking. Is the only long term issue I has with X-Men and I love the idea of power changing not just your feeling but personality. Is essentially how they work in practice without the "It's in the blood" nonsense.
IIRC, there are things that are treated as like...passive mutations in MHA, where you have a physical alteration that doesn’t necessarily have anything to do with your quirk. A good example is stuff like Tokoyami or Mina, like you suggested, or maybe Koda (the giant rocky guy from 1-A) or Kamakiri (the mantis-lookin’ dude from 1-B).
To make up for the lack of acid spells I probably would have just leaned more into sorcerer and taken the transmuted spell metamagic. For one sorcery point she could change the damage of a spell into acid. Ex: Cone of Acid or Acidball.
just wish there were an investiture of Acid, but I guess transmuting Investiture of Flame works well enough for Acid Man (it was used in the manga to protect Ashido from fire, so even the immunity works.)
It's also not uncommon for DMs to just let you swap out the damage type of one ability for a damage type of equal rarity. IE: a tiefling who's Hellish Rebuke is frosty, a Chill Touch that's radiant instead of necrotic, a bite that does slashing instead of piercing, etc... It's technically not RAW, and thus comes down to your particular group, but I mean... I've never met a DM who would have a problem with it.
PHB p. 164 says “If you already have the Unarmored Defense feature, you can’t gain it again from another class.” Worth noting that this does NOT apply to draconic resilience, mage armor, or racial unarmored defense features. Tulok asked for a reference, so I gave it. I let players choose which unarmored defense they use in my home game though.
It does make sense why that would be a rule, for simplicty's sake. But frankly, letting the player choose which one to use is absolutely what I'd go with too. Huzzah for freedom!
Worth noting however is that, RAW, this only applies to an ability that happens to be called "unarmored defense." Meaning that it doesn't apply if the ability is instead called, say, "Natural Armor."

Honestly, acid is one of the most consistent elemental damage types imo because of all the monster manual monsters, only 33 have either resistance or immunity (compared to lightning, fire, and cold ranging from the mid 30s to mid 40s with just resisant creatures and poison having 95 creatures with immunity (rip poisoners))

Would be fair to say Ryuko, hero name; Ryukyu is more along the lines of a base dragon referred too as a Drake. She just doesn't shoot elemental energies and stuff.
Shame the build was a bit too MAD and couldn't get elemental adept for acid. I feel like it's decent for an acid build since a fair few acid spells deal a bunch of d4s for damage and the treating ones as twos could be cool to have. Really fun looking build though.

I made an acid wizard back in 3.5 once and I actually had a good variety of spells, as like a dozen came from the book Spell Compendium. Acid Breath. Acid Orbs, Acid Rain, Acid Fog, Caustic Cloud, Melf's Acid Arrow. It was amazing how little that I was ever resisted or had anything that could counter it.
Ngl even just an Ascendant Dragon Plasmoid sounds fun. Have the different elements be like multi color lava lamp bubbles floating around in you. Wings Unfurled could make gooey dragons wings
Water Genasi or black dragoborn might also have been a good races. Water Genasi get acid resistance, and get create or destroy water that you can reflavor for some harmless weak acid. Black Dragonborn have acid resistance, can use once per short rest line acid breath, and have horns. Overall this seems like a fun build, great job.
@@ArcCaravan I was mostely talking about mechanics anyway, but if were talking about flavor/fluff. 5e genasi are made from regular meat, blood and bone. Quote: " Most water genasi look as if they just finished bathing, with beads of moisture collecting on their skin and hair. They smell of fresh rain and clean water. Blue or green skin is common, and most have somewhat overlarge eyes, blue-black in color." And a black or copper dragonborn's skincolour can be reflavored anyway you want. There is nothing stopping a black dragon(born) from being an albino.
I could tell the monk from her moves, sorcerer was needed for Careful Spell, but I really expected Bard as the third class. I didn't expect we would run out of needed spells so soon. Mina's also amazing and deserves more screentime. Melt Mineta to a puddle and take his time in the spot light.
Awesome build, and I've been noodling around with an acid-based build for a while, so I'm definitely gonna try this build out in my next long campaign.
Alternatively, if you don't mind never spare sorcery points, take transmute spell so you can change lots of elemental damage types to acid damage. Acid fireballs sound like a really fun time
Fun fact as of Guide to the Multi verse , Water Genasi now have Dark Vision , Acid resistance, (water breathing as a bonus) And the spells Acid Slash, Create destroy water, and water walking Making them surprising fitting option aswell
A lot of people in the comments are saying "what about Melf's Acid Arrow?" but the problem is that MAA isn't on the Sorcerer list - it's on the Wizard list. That said, there was one other Acid spell you could've picked up on the Sorcerer list: Chromatic Orb, which is like Dragon's Breath in that it can deal any of the Chromatic Breath Weapon types (plus Thunder) and deals pretty good damage - taking that to upcast probably would best replace taking Skill Empowerment. (Technically, there's also Chaos Bolt, but I wouldn't count that since the damage it deals is of your choice between two random types.)
Crazy how this build doesn't have Melf's Acid Arrow, which is probably the most famous Acid attack in D&D, but that's just how multiclassing be sometimes.
3:22 In Alien 3, the first prisoner the Alien kills had a companion with him that escaped. That guy called it a Dragon. And think this, the Alien is black like the acid dragon.
About that "no dragons" thing, there actually is one. Sort of... During the first season in the Episode where there's an Alarm, sending all the students into a panic, where the Guy with the leg engines (I can't remember his name at the moment) goes up above the exit and calms everyone down, while the camera goes over the crowd of students, you can spot one student who kinda looks like Toothless from How to train your Dragon.
3:39 there is a Dragon Quirk Hero (whos name escapes me but I will edit it in once I'm back on PC) who plays a pretty big role in one of the arcs and to Tsuyu and Ochaco's training. But yeah, The Dungeons and Dragons game may have a few more Dergs...

i'd go a step further with the tiefling and ask the DM to allow damage reflavoring with the racial stuff off the bat. it's not like Acid damage is too powerful so an innate acid resistance instead of a fire resistance might fly with a DM that's looser on the rules. Edit 2: nvm EDIT: about that "not seeing dragons" in MHA... there's a pro hero with a dragon TF quirk and iirc Mina actually does do internship with her. it's been a hot while since the last episode of MHA anime dropped so some details are fuzzy in my mind and i haven't been binge-rewatching the show to fill the void.
While I MinMax, I do it within the rules, RAW and DM (I confirm the build and RAW interpretation beforehand). But characterization flavoring I am willing to ask for. Losing the resistance to Fire for Acid is more than fair, especially if the DM wants to make a Pyromancer DMNPC Villain.
I've considered an acid poison build using scribe wizard to allow a tad more flexibility. But it's not going as good as I planned. I've done a few decent builds but I'm struggling with this one.
Just curious about everyone’s opinion on this but in Griffon’s Saddlebag, there is a bard subclass known as the College of Dance. It primarily focuses around being really mobile with extra movement and escaping grapples and things like that. Does anyone think that would fit her a bit?
5:20 I'm speculating, but I think that stems from the PHB pg. 164 that says, and I quote; "UNARMORED DEFENSE If you already have the Unarmored Defense feature, you can't gain it again from another class." Obviously that only means that you can't gain the Barbarian unarmored defense after having gained the Monk one, or vice versa - unless you homebrew that rule out, of course. Or add new classes that grant a feature called 'Unarmored Defense'. But I can easily see how that rule could turn into something that includes Draconic Resilience.
I love to see Tekken folks in these videos in the future. I’ve often wondered how to create Heihachi, Yoshimitsu, Armor King, Kuma, Mokujin, and Ogre/True Ogre in this role-playing game. Hope they can be added to the line up soon.

Admittedly, I always like the idea of Mina leaning more into the monk side of things, even if she doesn't get flight, but that'd be more my change in a campaign - or just call it a super jump. As far as Mina in the show, this is pretty accurate too... or at the very least, it's a good excuse to show off the acid spells.
So, the reason I've always said you have to use the first is because the multiclassing section on Unarmored Defense said "if you already have one, you cant gain another" though I think this was errata'd/clarified to mean you may only use one at a time

Take your basic Elements Monk and give it Firebolt, Booming Blade or Mold Earth(my personal fave) and it operates better without additional strain on Ki resources

I made an almost Madara Uchiha. Astral Self Monk 10 and Circle of Stars Druid 10. Susanoo, Wood Style, kunai skills, and if you reflavor the dragon star thing it could be the truth seeker orbs from six paths Madara. Take mobility, alert, and defensive duelist.
Don't think I've seen anyone do this, I'd love a build for Asura from Asura's Wrath. I know he's probably a monk/barbarian multiclass but it'd be cool to see one of my favorite characters from video games get some attention. :)
Now that I've slept on it, a solid build could be 3 zealot barb, 3 astral monk and (kinda crazy) 14 swords bard. 14 swords bard seems like a weird choice but hear me out: I wanted to make a build that lets us punch people (and maybe gods) into the dirt but I also wanted to be able to do all the other things Asura does with his god powers, like come back from the dead by himself and launch massive fireballs and energy blasts into the sky. 3 zealot barb gets us a mini smite but I’m here for warrior of the gods to not have to pay any money to be revived (Asura dies a lot and keeps coming back). 3 astral monk lets us do all the fun stuff like running around fast, deflecting missiles, punching a lot and gives us more arms to go to town on someone. With 14 swords bard and two sets of magical secrets we can any spell we want. by taking contingency and revivify, we can now come back to life should we die within 10 days at no cost apart from the one-time cost of getting that 1500 gp idol for contingency. Our other magical secrets spells can be used to get fireball and eldritch blast (flavored as the energy blasts we can punch) and the rest of the spells can be whatever you feel is appropriate (good ones to grab would be jump for mad hops, longstrider for more speed, and haste for all its buffs). We also get extra attack, a fighting style we can’t use and infinite flourishes. We can still use a flourish when we perform an unarmed strike (they are weapon attacks), we just won’t be able to add the d6/bardic inspiration die to our damage - but we get all the other bonuses of extra movement, and extra AC/pushing people around. Grab the fighting initiate feat at level 4 for unarmed fighting and our fists will deal 1d8 + str on a hit. Bards also get expertise in 4 skills at this level so I’d pick athletics, acrobatics and intimidation with 1 free choice left. With jump and step of the wind we sextuple our jump distance - add on haste and longstrider and we can reach the ridiculous heights and speeds asura can move: jumping 48 feet vertically, 120 feet horizontally, and run 400 feet in a round (330 if we attack with our main action and use our bonus and haste action to dash). For Asura’s absurd strength we have advantage on all strength checks and saving throws with rage along with having a +17 modifier to our athletics checks. Other nice spells you could grab with bard are see invisibility, tongues, freedom of movement, etherealness, regenerate, and I’m sure many more. If you want to get rid of eldritch blast, you could pick up fly so you’re not jumping around all the time or tenser’s transformation so your punches will truly have the strength of a god behind them (and 50 temp hp is nice as well). Of course, if you rage you can’t cast spells or concentrate on them, but you can still get all your buffs up like longstrider and jump beforehand and throw yourself into the fray and save tenser’s transformation for when you need it - perhaps when you inevitably die and return on 1 hp due to your contingency spell. Another con is that we have nothing to make your fists magical, but the extra radiant damage from divine fury, and force damage from your astral arms, tenser’s transformation and/or eldritch blast should be able to get around damage resistances/immunity. You could also just fireball everything if you feel like it. 🙂

In some cases it's part of the whole child's quirk being a fusion of the parents' thing.

Transmuted Spell metamagic from can help with the limited spells. Take fireball, cast it as acid
Take wall of fire, switch it to acid, boom. Acid veil.

A lot of people in the comments are saying "what about Melf's Acid Arrow?" but the problem is that MAA isn't on the Sorcerer list - it's on the Wizard list.
That said, there was one other Acid spell you could've picked up on the Sorcerer list: Chromatic Orb, which is like Dragon's Breath in that it can deal any of the Chromatic Breath Weapon types (plus Thunder) and deals pretty good damage - taking that to upcast probably would best replace taking Skill Empowerment.
(Technically, there's also Chaos Bolt, but I wouldn't count that since the damage it deals is of your choice between two random types.)

About that "no dragons" thing, there actually is one. Sort of...
During the first season in the Episode where there's an Alarm, sending all the students into a panic, where the Guy with the leg engines (I can't remember his name at the moment) goes up above the exit and calms everyone down, while the camera goes over the crowd of students, you can spot one student who kinda looks like Toothless from How to train your Dragon.
This actually makes an excellent chassis for Reptile from Mortal Kombat!
Just change race to lizardfolk 😈 and prolly more monk levels perhaps and def transmute spell meta magic 👀
3:39 there is a Dragon Quirk Hero (whos name escapes me but I will edit it in once I'm back on PC) who plays a pretty big role in one of the arcs and to Tsuyu and Ochaco's training.

i'd go a step further with the tiefling and ask the DM to allow damage reflavoring with the racial stuff off the bat. it's not like Acid damage is too powerful so an innate acid resistance instead of a fire resistance might fly with a DM that's looser on the rules. Edit 2: nvm
EDIT: about that "not seeing dragons" in MHA... there's a pro hero with a dragon TF quirk and iirc Mina actually does do internship with her. it's been a hot while since the last episode of MHA anime dropped so some details are fuzzy in my mind and i haven't been binge-rewatching the show to fill the void.
While I MinMax, I do it within the rules, RAW and DM (I confirm the build and RAW interpretation beforehand). But characterization flavoring I am willing to ask for. Losing the resistance to Fire for Acid is more than fair, especially if the DM wants to make a Pyromancer DMNPC Villain.
I've considered an acid poison build using scribe wizard to allow a tad more flexibility. But it's not going as good as I planned. I've done a few decent builds but I'm struggling with this one.
Just curious about everyone’s opinion on this but in Griffon’s Saddlebag, there is a bard subclass known as the College of Dance. It primarily focuses around being really mobile with extra movement and escaping grapples and things like that. Does anyone think that would fit her a bit?

5:20 I'm speculating, but I think that stems from the PHB pg. 164 that says, and I quote;
"UNARMORED DEFENSE
If you already have the Unarmored Defense feature, you can't gain it again from another class."
Obviously that only means that you can't gain the Barbarian unarmored defense after having gained the Monk one, or vice versa - unless you homebrew that rule out, of course. Or add new classes that grant a feature called 'Unarmored Defense'.
But I can easily see how that rule could turn into something that includes Draconic Resilience.

Admittedly, I always like the idea of Mina leaning more into the monk side of things, even if she doesn't get flight, but that'd be more my change in a campaign - or just call it a super jump. As far as Mina in the show, this is pretty accurate too... or at the very least, it's a good excuse to show off the acid spells.

So, the reason I've always said you have to use the first is because the multiclassing section on Unarmored Defense said "if you already have one, you cant gain another" though I think this was errata'd/clarified to mean you may only use one at a time

I always MC Monk with Arcana Cleric for the 2 Wizard cantrips that use WIS
Take your basic Elements Monk and give it Firebolt, Booming Blade or Mold Earth(my personal fave) and it operates better without additional strain on Ki resources

I made an almost Madara Uchiha. Astral Self Monk 10 and Circle of Stars Druid 10. Susanoo, Wood Style, kunai skills, and if you reflavor the dragon star thing it could be the truth seeker orbs from six paths Madara. Take mobility, alert, and defensive duelist.
Can't drop meteors though.

Beast barbarian, Astral monk with 2 levels of fighter to surge with action

Now that I've slept on it, a solid build could be 3 zealot barb, 3 astral monk and (kinda crazy) 14 swords bard. 14 swords bard seems like a weird choice but hear me out: I wanted to make a build that lets us punch people (and maybe gods) into the dirt but I also wanted to be able to do all the other things Asura does with his god powers, like come back from the dead by himself and launch massive fireballs and energy blasts into the sky.
3 zealot barb gets us a mini smite but I’m here for warrior of the gods to not have to pay any money to be revived (Asura dies a lot and keeps coming back).
3 astral monk lets us do all the fun stuff like running around fast, deflecting missiles, punching a lot and gives us more arms to go to town on someone.
With 14 swords bard and two sets of magical secrets we can any spell we want. by taking contingency and revivify, we can now come back to life should we die within 10 days at no cost apart from the one-time cost of getting that 1500 gp idol for contingency. Our other magical secrets spells can be used to get fireball and eldritch blast (flavored as the energy blasts we can punch) and the rest of the spells can be whatever you feel is appropriate (good ones to grab would be jump for mad hops, longstrider for more speed, and haste for all its buffs).
We also get extra attack, a fighting style we can’t use and infinite flourishes. We can still use a flourish when we perform an unarmed strike (they are weapon attacks), we just won’t be able to add the d6/bardic inspiration die to our damage - but we get all the other bonuses of extra movement, and extra AC/pushing people around.
Grab the fighting initiate feat at level 4 for unarmed fighting and our fists will deal 1d8 + str on a hit.
Bards also get expertise in 4 skills at this level so I’d pick athletics, acrobatics and intimidation with 1 free choice left.
With jump and step of the wind we sextuple our jump distance - add on haste and longstrider and we can reach the ridiculous heights and speeds asura can move: jumping 48 feet vertically, 120 feet horizontally, and run 400 feet in a round (330 if we attack with our main action and use our bonus and haste action to dash). For Asura’s absurd strength we have advantage on all strength checks and saving throws with rage along with having a +17 modifier to our athletics checks.
Other nice spells you could grab with bard are see invisibility, tongues, freedom of movement, etherealness, regenerate, and I’m sure many more. If you want to get rid of eldritch blast, you could pick up fly so you’re not jumping around all the time or tenser’s transformation so your punches will truly have the strength of a god behind them (and 50 temp hp is nice as well).
Of course, if you rage you can’t cast spells or concentrate on them, but you can still get all your buffs up like longstrider and jump beforehand and throw yourself into the fray and save tenser’s transformation for when you need it - perhaps when you inevitably die and return on 1 hp due to your contingency spell. Another con is that we have nothing to make your fists magical, but the extra radiant damage from divine fury, and force damage from your astral arms, tenser’s transformation and/or eldritch blast should be able to get around damage resistances/immunity. You could also just fireball everything if you feel like it.
