I’m just imagining the reveal trailer being just some normal gameplay, but Mario walks in and it has his correct information, like Mario’s height and weight and where he’s from and whatnot, and instead of the decline and accept stamps, there’s one that says “Join the battle in Smash!”
@Alexander LeBlanc But Dr. Dunsparce’s depiction doesn’t have Mario getting hurt. He’s just getting through the checkpoint, without signs of any discrepancies to be heard of. If he were to be “taking his lumps”, he might be found with an incorrect piece of information, such as the weight being incorrect. Protocol would follow as normal, as Mario is X-rayed like anyone else with an incorrect weight, (with the PG setting turned on so its just Mario with polka dot underpants) and Mario can be seen smuggling things such as Super Mushrooms, Fire Flowers, a Super Star, etc. and Mario would be given the Denied stamp. He would then start angrily shouting in Italian, warranting the Detained button to be pressed, and for him to be tackled by the guards.

All the normals would be fairly standard moves like punches and kicks which would be generally uninteresting. His specials, however: Neutral Special: Stamp: A large colored stamp appears and drops down. Depending on the color one of two things happen: Accepted leads to high horizontal knockback but low damage while Denied leads to a spike with higher damage. Generally acceptance occurs with denial happening more often the higher you get in percent, but the down special can increase the odds. Up Special: Class E Dwelling: The Inspector's apartment building suddenly springs up from where Jorgi is and sends him all the way to the top of the building. This does not put him in freefall but he can be hit immediately upon leaving the building. Side Special: Scanner: The inspector calls for a large scanning device that appears in front of Jorgi and traps one person inside it. During the invasive scanning process damage is taken and any item held or pocketed, as well as any special meter, are dropped (or if they can't be dropped completely are disabled for 10 seconds) Down Special: Fact Check: The Inspector shows up with his rule book and compares the closest opponent's state 10 seconds before to the current time. If a discrepancy is found the opponent is flung in the opposite direction to where the inspector is facing AND all stamps used on that opponent are denials until that opponent's stock is lost. If a discrepancy is not found all stamps used are acceptances for the next 10 seconds.

The smash stage could be a flat stage like bridge of eldin, but you can use the people as platforms, and they constantly move because they're waiting in line to get their passport checked. And then there could be a big wall with the booth, and you can pass through the booth, but not the rest of the wall.
Imagine an East Grestin Border Checkpoint stage where a wall divides the middle and while you can just jump over it, occasionally a bomber runs into it and blasts it open only for it to be rebuilt later
