- This programme made by Moasunep Kichu deals with some of the important milestones (Birth, Marriage & Dead) in the life of Aos.
The Aos believe in love marriage and practice monogamy. There are two types of marriages, the valid and the invalid. The right place for match making was Tsuki, the girls’ dormitory, which is abandoned today.
In the olden days, a pregnant woman was carefully looked after. A lot of restrictions were imposed on her. Even her husband’s activities were carefully monitored by the society.
The Aos have no particular preference for boys or girls. However, a son is preferred more because of patriarchal society.
The Ao’s believed that there was life after death. There were two doctrines; one believed that the abode was in the sky while the other thought it was under Wokha hills.
The advent of Christianity washed away most of the superstitious beliefs.
Modernity has changed the Aos’ customary practice. However some beliefs and customs never die.
