The ending is quite the surprise when you first watch it. The show, has by this stage has established a number of tropes and the writer uses them fully. The episode climax is coded very much like a story ending. The Doctor solves the society destroying problem and everyone is relieved, grateful to him. The inhabitants have a renewed sense of hope and the Doctor gives them some parting pearls of wisdom. They say their goodbyes and its back to the Tardis, on to their next unrelated adventure.... Of course this is Doctor Who and we should know there's always a twist at the end.
This is a top-10 Hartnell for me. Great ideas, well executed and especially for the time. But it still seems quite watchable today. The silly outfits are great! We don't know what future fashion would be so it's cool. like someone from 1066 looking at 1978's Studio 54. Well, maybe nothing THAT silly, hehehehe! Great cliffhanger to this one too!
I do say Shelma I still miss Vicki, but Dodo is an awesome companion nonethless and she and Steven work well together with Doctor one who was awesome and very cunning.
Why Dodo, could it be for the same reason singer Lulu Kennedy-Cairns CBE born Marie McDonald McLaughlin Lawrie, a pet name, she could have chosen Dot. What is calling someone a pet name? an informal, affectionate name given to someone by family or friends.
