      @@AveChristusRex789 it is true he fell off but even then his offensive repertoire was kinda meh. PJ may need to work a bit on his 3pt but he already offers different options.
      A big reason these two players may make a big difference is because now you offload some pressure from many players who can focus on what they are good at. Kleber doesn't have to play backup center so much, Powell doesn't play as much as well, Lively might get less injured, Green might play with less pressure... It starts becoming a domino effect.

      Yall should wait a bit before deciding what this team is capable of.
      Anyone who has been watching basketball knows we see this all the time with questionable teams.
      They add a player or two, look amazing for a handful of games but then go back to normal or a little better than normal.
      Theyre not "scary", theres simply not enough footage of this new team for coaches to properly prepare for.
      Lets see what is happening 8 games from now.

      Lively is more athletic but also more inconsistent. I don't think you'll see either of the new guys disappearing during the 2nd team's stretch. I'm not saying they'll be dominant, but if you get 25/12 from them then you won't see those double-digit leads (the Mavs have been blowing) go away when Luka hits the bench. It just takes players who are consistent in their intensity and performance and you completely change a franchise.
      Look at Denver. They are still playing great, but you'll see their bench go for 30 /10 in one game, then 8 / 4 in the next. Their starters are great, but not good enough to overcome that. If they don't repeat it will be because they're missing exactly what Dallas just acquired.

    Dallas has lacked a good big for almost a decade. Now they have one of the best tandem of bigs in the league. One of the things a a lot in the media freaked out about was the 1st round pick. The Mavs will actually have two tradeable first round picks this summer once this year's first is conveyed to the Knicks. Doesn't seem like you are aware of that either. Not taking a shot, but your narrative seems to be along the lines of everyone that thinks they have no assets left. On top of that, they have several young players that are valuable too.

Anytime they gained a lead it was hard for them to hold it. They bolstered the defense sured up the big spot because even with lively they couldn’t compete against established bigs. Team record is a major reason Luka isn't a Top 2 MVP candidate right now, and why he hasn't been a leading candidate MVP in the past. I'm hoping the Mavs finish Top 3 in the Western Conference this year so Luka will be "eligible" for MVP in the eyes of the voters.
    Obviously he'll still face the same hurdle that Jokic always faces in the MVP **race** (see what I did there?), but if the Mavs are a top 3 team, then voters will have to come up other excuses not to vote for him.

    I enjoyed the video and agree with what you say about the Mavericks moving up in the West standings after the acquisition of Gafford and Washington. The key is going to be for them avoiding injuries and staying healthier than they have been so far this season.

  • @SDesWriter
    @SDesWriter 7 місяців тому +14

    I think that neither player had a "Great" game and they beat a top 3 team in the West (some say the best) by 35. Kyrie has missed half their games and Luka has been averaging 34 / 9 / 9.5 while being the most double teamed (and blitzed) player in the league. You put a healthy Irving next to him and give the Mavs 30 / 15 off the bench and I don't see how anyone can beat them in a 7 game series. Now they have to stay healthy and everyone has to settle into a rotation that keeps them happy (because they still have 2 very good players coming back), but the team we saw last night where everyone just did their job and no one had a season's best performance and they blew out maybe the toughest team in the West.....that team can beat anyone in 7, especially when Luka is finally facing a single defender. What happens if Luka or Kyrie go off for 50? They will blow out anyone in the NBA.

    • @Smido83

      Luka had an exeptional game. You forgot he only played 31 minutes instead of his normal 37.5... And his indiv ORtg was 154 and bis TS was 78% in this game. Thats laughably good. • @SDesWriter
      @SDesWriter 7 місяців тому

      @@Smido83 Yeah, it was a great game for everyone else in the league, a good game for the guy who got 73/18/7 on 75% shooting. People have been ignoring Luka's numbers because the Mavs were mediocre. If this isn't a mirage, you're going to see his numbers change a bit because everything is going to be easier (and less guarded) for him and the offense will flow the way it should.
      The man is a lob machine because of his touch and being taller than all the other guards. I bet if you asked him would he rather throw lobs all day or try to break double-teams, this is exactly what he wants.

      I also think, while the clips are playing well, Harden and Westbrick have always been guys whose performance declines in the playoffs.
      Westbrick has a harder time in the playoffs, because there are less fast break points to be had, since comp are all good teams with lower turnovers, and nobody loafs getting back on D in the playoffs, not a single loaf possession most series. Westbrick back then, and especially now, isn’t built for a half court game where the defense is set and attentive. His game and skill set is literally built for fast breaks against 1-3 transition Defenders.
      Harden has struggled since it’s all slightly more physical in playoffs, and refs aren’t calling so many ticky tack fouls, so he gets bailed out less, and winds up committing even more turnovers.

    Mavs fan. I wouldn't call them contenders for this year. They could maybe contend for a WCF again. But the brilliant aspect of those trades....they still have them for 2 more years after this. So watch out for the Mavs next year.
    Yeah, they don't have that many assets like other teams. But they will have 2 firsts, 4 seconds & THJ's expiring contract. That could be enough to get them another complimentary star. And almost everyone is gonna be coming back. I believe DJJ & Exum will be free agents. But they also have O-Max who they hope develops into a good wing player....and looking at the Mavs track record, I wouldn't doubt that he does.
    Developed Brunson, Josh Green is turning into a playmaker, Jaden Hardy has finally taken his Year 2 leap, Lively is gonna be All-Rookie. And obviously Luka. So yeah, the Mavs have been hitting on their draft picks...especially those 2nd rounders. And O-Max was a late 1st.
