keep going with the lore videos Grubby! they only get better and better. Vaati really came into his own in terms of production value during his series on Elden Ring. I really enjoy your insights too, and i appreciate that you actually rewind if you miss something- it shows that you're actually interested!! the lore of elden ring is particularly fascinating, but all fromsoft games have great stories and lore. in terms of Vaati's elden ring stuff, The Lord of Frenzied Flame video is particularly good, as are the rest of the 'Prepare to Cry' series; but the longer, more in depth, lore-focused ones are great too (like the ones focusing and deep-diving into Malenia and Miquella) It's actually because of your reaction to the first lore video uploaded on this channel the other day that I discovered you as a twitch streamer and i've since binged a couple hours of your content!
36:29 Maybe she saw that as the only way to correct the existing wrong and everything that happened post-shattering/post death of the first demigod. Melina says this in the mountaintops of the giants: "There is something I'd like to say. My purpose was given to me by my mother. But now, I act of my own volition. I have set my heart upon the world that I would have. Regardless of my mother's designs. I won't allow anyone to speak ill of that. Not even you." So regardless of Marika's will, given the state of things, this is what Melina wanted.
Thank you for watching Vaatividya's Elden Ring content. I encourage you to watch as many as you can. Vaati puts a ton of effort into his lore videos, and I believe they can really enhance your enjoyment of Elden Ring. Ditto for any other Fromsoftware titles you play.
The lore and story telling of Elden ring is the best I’ve personally seen it’s so creative mysterious and intriguing and the best part is, they don’t force you to get into the lore at all which is crazy because there is so much.
The butterfly theory is right and that red butterfly IS probably Melina's, since Mesmer has his own butterfly in the DLC (CC's that played the dlc early confirmed)
This is my favorite thing to watch on a new souls-borne players journey. Fromsofts story telling blew my mind when I first looked into it and I've been in love ever since. Stoked for you and Grubtor!
To add to the chorus of people mentioning it. All of the souls games (except Sekiro if you count it) have at least 1 DLC. And for all of the souls games, the DLC is by far the best part. Fromsoft seriously kicks ass at making DLC, the bloodborne one might be the greatest piece of DLC that exists. The Elden Ring DLC is going to be amazing.
Grubby, I know you are bored with long lore videos, so I recommend ~20 minutes long one: Prince of Death Lore by Arlun Grim. It is about Godwyn and it's really interesting and dark. Plus you kinda were next to his tragic history all the time not knowing it.
For me, the Souls series did a lot to redeem the single player experience. Especially in the west it seems multiplayer almost took over everything. To have a game that is fully single player and yet capable of offering both a challenging experience that on some level almost rivals that of online games (check ONGBAL to see how far skill expression can be taken with those games), and then all the richness in terms of art, lore, level design etc was something that modern gaming really needed. Multiplayer games made gaming closer to sports, but games should also be art which is what single player ought to be for.
I can't remember how but, George rr Martin name coincides with the names in ER. Like, R.R. in his name stands for Ranni , or Rykard. They're more i just can't remember.
Im afraid to play Elden ring again because I one-shot Malenia with some tanky claw build and at the time I thought she was a mini-boss or something. After I had finished the game and starting looking up things online I realized a lot of people regarded her as one of the hardest bosses and that I somehow lucked out and just tanked everything she did with "endure". If I ever play it again with another build Im dead I guess lol
I think the best theory on the omen is that an omen civilisation once inhabited the center of the map. That civilization is what is now the land of shadow. Marika probably seduced the god of these omen people (morgot and mohg are likely the illegitimate children of this affair) and once she got what she needed she betrayed them, creating the erdtree in the place where the shadow tree stands (likely the crucible), casting the whole area into shadow as the erdtree drains the shadow tree of its gold where the two worlds overlap.
Yeah, I’m really not a fan of vaati presenting all this stuff that was explicitly cut from the game as Canon, just does not set right with me whatsoever
you see.. have you ever wondered? about these demigods. or well, the characters in general. there are some characters that speaks with ancient tounge. you know, "thou, thee, art" that kinda thing,i would assume they are very old right? ranni, morgott, godfrey, rennala, maliketh, and sometimes even melina speaks like that. but not malenia. malenia speaks like us and the rest of the characters. while rykard and mohg has too little dialogue. is this important tho? not really, its just a little detail in character design that i find interesting, its like.. they subtlely tell us who live in what age and the order of who born first it seems.
Um no it doesn't lol. Malenia is leagues harder than any Sekiro boss. Like it's not even close. Sekiro bosses aren't even that hard if you actually learn how to play the game. People keep saying this and it's making him not want to play Sekiro. Just stop, it's not true at all. No single boss in Sekiro took me more than 10 attempts to beat. Malenia took me well over 10 hours.
@@anonymousperson8903 wtf are you guys talking about? Malenia took me like an hour tops on my first playtrough. Just spam jump attacks to stagger her and she's dead. Elden Ring gives you way more tools to cheese any boss, while in Sekiro the only thing you can do is to get good.
If you dive into ER lore again I think with your analytical mind you might like The Tarnished Archaeologist. He connects in game design elements to real world history and legends.
Bruh grubby is dutch I think he knows a bit about the history of Europeans hunting in Africa I would hope. You should educate your own self if you think that wasn't a thing. Idk if the omen are exactly like that they're more similar to other more ancient cultures practices of infanticide but what he's referencing totally happened.

Ah yes the amazing elden ring "story". I really don't understand why this game is so successful when the "story" is basic, the exploration is lackluster because 80% of the stuff you find are garbage crafting items, the bosses are mid and the combat is as shallow as a puddle.
All those dungeons and overworld bosses yielded you only crafting items? Mid bosses such as Margit, Radahn and Godfrey? Combat shallow as a puddle? What action RPG has better combat?
1. I'm not talking about the loot from bosses. I mean the loot on the bodies that lie around. 2. Radahn and Godfrey are rare good ER bosses. Margit is alright. Most bosses are only remotely challenging, because they either are gank bosses, spam insanely long combos with barely any openings, spam aoes or have giga delayed attacks. 3. Sorry to break it to you but roll-R1 is not deep combat. 4. Monster Hunter
@sentinel9752 1. You expect them to give you great items just from corpses laying around? 2. Not every boss can be great. There are no average bosses in Monster Hunter? 3. If you only spam R1 you can only blame yourself. There are so many moves available. 4. Monster Hunter is great, but I don't think it's necessarily better than ER. Besides, two different kind of games.
i really hope you will watch more. this was so entertaining
I can only imagine "Prepare to Cry" watchalong sessions if Grubby ever plays DS1. I would be so glorious
Exactly, this is the best part of ER

I find it wild that Grubby shares my love of these two (ER and wc3) completely unrelated, completely different, but both extremely unique games/genres

If Grubby wants to see players dying to Malenia, there are many reaction compilations of streamers dying to Malenia.
Best ones are people dying to phase 2 beginning after thinking it was over
Lacari's was the best imo
I truly believe tarnished archeologists video on the omen and the crucible IS THE BEST video on the topic

20:00 Every Dark Souls Game and Bloodbourne have had expansions.
Lore so deep and intricate it no longer feels like it’s just a game, it’s so much more.
Grubby, Day9 has a full Elden ring playthrough, and he had a good 180 or so attempts at Melania, I think you'd enjoy that.
