How to Size a Watch Bracelet (3 Different Methods) - Watch and Learn #14
Вставка
- Опубліковано 18 січ 2017
- In today's episode of Watch and Learn, we will cover the ins and outs of sizing a watch bracelet. It is a rather simple task that can be accomplished by both novice and expert. There are many ways to size a bracelet, so we show you how to do it with three of the most popular tools out there; a spring bar tool, a bracelet vise, and a hammer and block. Once you have the know-how, you won't have to pay a jeweler again to do this for you.
The standard friction or cotter pin bracelet will be discussed in this video, with future Watch and Learns dedicated to other bracelets such as pins and collars.
The tools used in this episode are rather affordable, and a selection of them is shown below:

Thank you this is my third watch bracelet adjustment video that I've watched today and it is by far the most professional and the most informational. This makes me feel confident about working on my own watch bracelets. My next step is buying the right tools I guess. Thanks for posting this video much appreciated.
Yes, I agree GS, this is by far the best video for this type of bracelet adjustment.
Totally agree!
Just watched 3 videos on this subject, but yours was by far the best. Having broken my clamp pin thingy, and I don’t have a block and nylon hammer, I was amazed to see you can push the pins out with the flat tool and finger pressure alone. Wish I’d watched this video months ago. Thanks a million 👍
This was super helpful!
A new watch arrived today. First new watch I’ve bought in 10 years.
I got a sizing kit similar to the one in this video. Probably a much cheaper version though.
Watched the video through twice. Then decided to give it a try using that screw type vice tool. The pins came right out, I removed a few links, then used the hammer to replace the pins.
Finally I used the method shown here to adjust the spring pin. Done in less than 10 minutes and the watch fits perfectly!
Thanks!!
Perfect instructions, delivered concisely and professionally -- thanks!! 👌
Thank you for this...I always take my new watch to the local jeweler and pay them $20 to adjust the bracelet. I have had a kid for quite a while but if I did not learn anything else from your video is LOOK FOR THE ARROWS! 😂👌 I had never seen those before. So, I successful adjusted my bracelet on my new Seiko GMT....I feel empowered! Thanks my dude!
If you don't have a fancy watch block, to put it on, while you tap the pins out, I used a "flat" wrench from a monitor arm to provide a simple gap for the pin to fall out. Also, if you don't have the fancy punch tool, the center wire of a coax video cable can be used to gently tap the pins out. Yep, talking about mcgyver, but it really does work! Great video, and thanks for the helps.
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and experience! All your videos about resizing bracelets are the most comprehensive I’ve seen 👍🏻
I love it when a video is this efficient. Well done really
A UA-cam video that actually explains properly what you need to know. Thank you Mark!
What a champion, when you hear "this is Mark from Long Island Watch" at the beginning of a video you know it's going to be good
Mark!
Thank you for a very informative video! I wish more UA-camrs would be as concise and to the point in their videos like you were. Although I did not have the exact tools you have; with the micro tools I have around I was able to downsize my Seiko's band by one link in just a couple of minutes! Now if fits snugly and doesn't flop around anymore. Success, thanks to you!
Hey i just want to say thank you for these how to watch videos! They are great.
This video is great and very approachable for amateurs (like me) I was able to fit my watch and there is a clear sense of pride being able to do it yourself. Thanks for posting this video.
Did you have the tools for it or did you use anything else. If so what did you use
By far the best video and instructions from someone who really knows what he's doing. Many thanks for the very clear detail in the video and the helpful explanations. Really gave me the confidence to do a good job on my new Seiko.
The best instructor. I couldn't figure anything out on my own. Thank you Marc.
This is the best adjustment vid out there. Shows proper tools and best methods. Straight to the point. Much thanks Long Island Watch!
Perfect. Thank you. I had the repair/adjustment kit but didn't know what the mini vice / pin pusher thing was for. Worked like a charm and saved me £15 at the jewellers.
Thank you and excellent job. I've learned alot from your video.
five years late but just used this video and its flawless, thanks so much took me around five minutes having never done anything like it before in my life. This is what youtube is for!
Thanks a million! Before the video I was using a micro flat to try to unscrew the pins 😂 I had no clue what I was doing. Also, I used the fine tuning pin and your method is excellent to do it quickly and keep it all together.
Thank you for making such an informative video! Watch resizing looked so complicated before I watched this video. Thanks for breaking it down so even a novice understands.
Thank you very much for the video.
Loved it and fixed my 3 watches.
Thanks once again
Easy clear instructions. Nice tool set too, I want them! Thanks for taking it one step at time.
Excellent video.
I have taken links out before and often bent or broken the pin remover and presumed that I was doing it wrong. You make it look easy and I now feel more comfortable trying again. Many thanks
Extremely thorough, helpful video that kept me from the jewelry shop! Thank you so much! I previously had *no clue* what I was doing.
Amazing video! I really appreciate your Watch and Learn series! Thanks!!
Mark, your videos are excellent, and I've learned a lot about watches in your demonstration. Thank you very much.
This the best watch band adjustment video I've seen. I bought an adjustment kit and feel like a pro already. Thank you!
No annoying background music - just great narrative and information. A definite 'thumbs up' !
Mark you are a life saver
Here I was trying to decide what size Bergeon screwdriver to buy to adjust my bracelet
I'm so glad I watched this video!
Perfect video! Thank you so much, it was my first time doing it and I was able to do it with just a pin tool and a small hammer. Now my watch fits!
Excellent instructions, thanks! Concise and easy to follow.
Many thanks for the good video on resizing folded link bracelet. It helped me resize my new bracelet.
Great video Marc...super helpful!
I am so glad to have found your video. Clear and easy instructions for a beginner like me.
Simple, accurate, & thanks for showing the tools to use. Just showed me how to adjust my son's watch. 💯👍
Thanks for the great tutorial!
Just had to go through this process dude you're a legend
My first ever mechanical watch just arrived (an Orient Mako 2). Thanks to the detailed description in this video I could remove a couple of links and do the micro adjust (no apollo disaster ;) ) using just the SIM removal tool that came with my phone. The watch fits perfectly now, thanks for the awesome video!
Best way to go,simple and easy.Still haven't got the hang of bracelet removal and found this article to be of assistance.
Useful information. Thanks Mark
Sized around 5 or 6 Seiko/Citizen/Blieger/Strapcode watches/bands. My Orient 3 star was my first folded link watch. Didn't expect to need to look up how to size a watch again. Found the pin tool on my W&S Spring Bar Tool actually made it pretty easy and I didn't damage it!
Very informative video, made me size my first bracelet with ease! Thanks!
Great lessons. I have learned a lot from you. I never noticed the slots in the watch band pins until now.
Thanks for the Video. Very timely for me. I'll be getting delivery of my Seiko that I purchased from you in about 30 minutes. Also bought the tool kit you mention in the video. I'll be using both along with the how-to you just explained. Much appreciated!
Great, thank you!
Just received a nice watch for Christmas today and needed to resize the bracelet. This video was THE best out there. Thank you.
Thank you soo much. I bought a watch and it came with a bracelet vise. Your the only person on UA-cam I’ve found with a good example using it.
Best watch resizing video on the internet, sir! Just resized one of my old ones (was walking around with a slightly ill-fitting bracelet haha) and the new one I just bought!
Perfect video from a professional. Hate all the DIY videos of amateurs doing this and telling other people what to do. I've just bought a 500 dollar watch, I'm not gonna trust some diy guy and start banging on my watch with a hammer. You, on the other hand are a respectable source and I trust your advice. Thank you!
Clear, well narrated video. All set to adjust watch bands like pro!
Great video, helped me out. Thanks for posting.
Marc, excellent tutorial again. It was a great help! Thanks!
Thank you, Long Island Watch! I've had some of the tools you demonstrate in this video, but I didn't know how to use them. I just finished removing links from a new bracelet for my vintage King Seiko Hi-beat. It finally fits perfectly.
I wasn't sure about the fatter pin end. Your video answered my question. Thanks Mark!
Thanks, this was exactly what I needed. An other video only talked about the "vice" thingy, where he used the screw to push the pin out, but with the pusher (I happened to have one), it was a piece of cake.
Thanks for doing these videos! I always find them to be helpful and informative about exactly what I’m trying to figure out!
And to anyone out there that hasn’t purchased an Islander watch, do it! You won’t be disappointed! The value and quality of the components far exceeds the price of the watch itself!!
Thank you! I had ordered a band from [website that has lot's of stuff] and they sent a kit. I was able to work out everything but how to get the pin back in. I was afraid I was going to strip the threads of the vise but you confirmed I was doing it properly. Thank you!
Excellent video. Clear, easy to understand and no trawling through loads of unnecessary information before you got to the point of the video.
Well done. I look forward to the pins and collars instructional video
Perfect video. Thank you, Mark.
I watched four other videos before I came to yours. Yours was, BY FAR, the most informative. Thanks for taking the time and doing a very professional, informative and easy to understand job!
Thanks so much!
I just shortened my bracelet thanks to you. This video went to details, I appreciate it.
Great Clip! Clear, to the point, well spoken! Thank you so much! You saved me money and granted me confidence! 🙌🏻🤩
I appreciate your video, guidance and help. Thanks!
Very informative. Thanks 😄
I din't even know those pins at the latch existed exactly what I needed!
This is the best video, thank you for teaching and sharing, you are a professional!
Excellent, just what I needed, thanks Mark!
Thanks, Marc. Best explanation of cotter pin style bracelet sizing I've seen.
Thanks.
Great video extremely helpful and easy for new watch collectors such as myself !
Fabulous tutorial! Thank you:)
Excellent video, you have saved my day, many thanks.
Thanks to your video I was able to confidently resize two of my watch bracelets!
Your videos are always so helpful! Thank you!!

Fantastic video! Clear, detailed & precise. Like all instructional vids should be.
Thanks soo much for this video. Got the featured tools and resized my bracelet like a boss😀. You videos are both informative and detailed.
Very helpful Sir, thanks
Excellent presentation! This is my third watch video and this is by far the best and most comprehensive. Thank you
Great tutorial! Thanks for covering the micro adjustment. Well done.
Hey Marc, great video, very helpful. It's the "screw" piece that can be most confusing, and you have certainly simplified it. Keep those instructional videos coming. Thanks again!
Thanks, glad you found it useful.
Dude thanks! I found 5 old watches and I would never have got them right without you!
Thanks Mark for this very educational video.
You the man thank you for explaining it so well
Love the videos, Mark. They're informative, unpretentious, and entertaining!
Thank you!
Thank you. I've follow you're instruction and worked as a charm...
Excellent how-to video. Thank you!
this is such a great video- total confidence builder. thx
Perfect job. Thanks for the help
Thanks my seiko looks on on its stock band. I always used ruber and leather straps because I didn't know how to adjust it. Now I do. Thanks!
Thank you for this video.
I recently bought a Citizen HTM Eco Drive and it was way too big for me.
I needed to remove 6 links and the local jewelry store wanted $10 per link to adjust it.
I just did it with a kit and it only took me a few minutes thanks to your video.
I used the block and hammer and pin to make the adjustment.
Fits great now.
Omg thank u, my watch I just couldn’t get to fit right and u showing me that there is a micro adjustment and it just fixed my problem. Thanks
Excellent video. Good close up of the pins and the directions.
Man, you explained it so well. Great job well done. I learned a lot from you. Thank you very much.
Thanks, wonderful instruction!
Just got a Seiko 5 automatic sports watch from these guys! Highly recommend them. Great service and the best price I could find online. Love my watch!
Great video! The instruction is very detailed and easy to follow. Thanks for sharing!
Very useful. Thank you, Mark.
I bought a whole watch tool kit and didn't know what that gray box was used for. I am glad i watched this video. Thanks!
