      I have the preferred trim as well but I took the cladding off and replace the front and rear bumper with Opel GSI parts so it will have the appearance of the Grand Sport. If the vehicle is not the way you want it, make changes to it to make it the way you want it.

    I don't think Buick cared much about this car. They didn't market it at all, and gave all their attention to their SUVs, including that lame Encore. Too bad. The TourX is a nice car and got good reviews in the automotive world.

    I am very conflicted about this car. I owned the essence version of the TourX for two years. It was loaded with every available option, particularly, all the ones yours is missing. I didn’t mind the car that much. I also didn’t mind paying several thousand extra dollars to get the full array of options. However, the biggest problem for me was owning a $41,000 car with a $25,000 interior. It was smooth, quiet and refined, I’d even argue well built and used higher quality materials than other mainstream brands. But cheap, hard, glossy plastics all over the interior really bothered me as well as the very low-grade leather. It seemed so cheap and cheesy and hard I asked the sales person if it was actually real leather or some sort of vinyl. I one day had enough of it and traded it for a Lexus. The difference in materials and overall quality is astounding. Buick missed a great opportunity here to make this wagon awesome.

      JC6817 I just test drove a 2018 TourX Essence, and I really wanted to love it. The thing I noticed the most was the cheap interior, and bouncy center console. Really bummed because I thought I’d found my next car.

    • @socalguy97
      @socalguy97 4 роки тому +1

      @@donh3223 I don’t remember the center console being bouncy. I do remember it being extremely hard-touch plastic that creaked and crackled over bumps, or whenever I’d close the console lid. It was deceptive-the materials looked nice, but as soon as you’d touch them it was super obvious the quality was like that of a Kia or Hyundai. From the poor leather to the phony wood, to what they tried to pass off as soft-touch on the dash and doors-it just didn’t work for me for the price, and it took owning it a while to really get through to me that Buick did not try very hard with this. So disappointing.

      Please do not forget the LS engine swap as well...if the last version of the Dodge Magnum had V8 and Hemi options, plus can also readily accept the Hellcat, Demon, and Hellephant engines under the hood, and that Cadillac could have its own LS engines for the XTS-V, CTS-V, and CTS-V SportWagon, and that Mercedes-Benz and BMW can make monster V8 wagons, then certainly the Buick Regal Tour X Wagon, as well as its Opel/Vauxhall Insignia GSi Sport Tourer and Holden Commodore VXR, would all be considered as fair game for an awesome V8 upgrade, @SLICK WHEELS.

    I 100% agree with you - the base model Preferred is missing a lot of equipment that one would perceive as being standard given the MSRP and the Buick brand's luxury underpinnings. This car was brought to the US to fulfill a manufacturing contract quota as Opel transitioned away from GM's ownership; they did not care about making this car appealing to US consumers. Same situation as the Chevrolet SS (Holden Commodore VF). Damn shame, because this car is a total parts bin special.

    I have a 2018 Buick Regal Sportback Essence (one trim higher) and it solves a majority of your dislikes lol- It has leather seats, LED HID lights, auto climate control, 35 psi tires, no sport button but it has the 9-speed trans which is a bit tighter (note that if you want to unlock the full performance you have to push the accel pedal past the "kick-down" switch which unlocks staying in higher revs for longer on a wide open throttle). My biggest complaints are the lack of LED brake lights, and lack of auto-cruise control and braking (which I'm aware was an available option). I love the car but it's not that exciting of a vehicle.. it's a luxury cruiser. Have 60k miles on it and no major issues besides the acoustic foam coming loose in the tires and violently shaking the car (got free tire replacement at 20k miles because of this)

      @emmalab02  Рік тому

      Listening is hard, but I thank you for your observation. My complaint wasn’t about buying the base model of an economy brand, it was buying the mid-level model (I mention it is the “Preferred” trim level at 0:25) of a brand which wants to be considered premium without providing premium features associated with premium brands. I had the base model of the Q50 right before that and the base model of the Giulia after that and the Premium trim of the WRX now. The TourX is equipped with less than my 2023 WRX from a non-premium brand which has LED headlights, automatic climate control and a lockable glovebox unlike the halogens, manual climate and unlockable glovebox in the TourX.

      The shape. The practicality. The smooth highway cruising. Sneaky good driving dynamics once I installed sportier tires. Lastly, because I had put 30k miles on my Q50 the year prior driving my growing teenager around for travel sports and college recruiting visits, so we needed the room. Great car with a cheap interior and lazy transmission tuning, but if Buick had kept it around like Volvo did with the V90 (similar size) and refreshed the interior materials I might have gotten another one.

    Not getting leather is hardly a "bad thing about the car", you could have easily paid more and gotten that. Good points. I would say, negotiate your price, evaluate pros and cons, then make a decision. I bought the 2020 Regal GS at a 25% discount (the start of the pandemic was a good time to negotiate). I got my car all leathered up, auto climate....it goes like a bat out of hell, has sport mode with electronic dampers that work great....the sport seats are hard to get in and out and a bit stiff but, I knew that going in. The sunshades are a skimpy, not big enough (that is my main gripe). I am gonna look for a jumbo replacement for those. Never noticed the glare off the chrome trim at the shifter. My glovebox locks (I think). Like you, I goosed my pressure up by 3lbs to get the most out of the handling. I got the darn thing loaded with every single option available because I like toys. Overall, very happy. I have 5,200 miles with no problems. Good quality control. Full disclosure: I am over 65 and like my creature comforts. So, I fit into the Buick demographic. I just wanted a highly reliable car that would haul a$$ on the highway on long trips. The Buick Regal GS is definitely your first choice for a local, small sized kid hauler car to run grocery errands.

    Names and desired brand image aside, that is a station wagon Malibu, and you bought the base model. Preferred II has most of the creature comforts that you're looking for(full matrix LED lights, Dual zone auto climate control, and heated leather). The body cladding is easily removable and leather is easily added.

    • @emmalab02
      @emmalab02  4 роки тому

      Thanks for watching. Base trim level doesn't even have a leather steering wheel, I at least have that thankfully. Preferred trim level should have been the base equipment level if GM were hell bent on cheapening the Buick brand proposition. However, given the marketing of Buick as an upmarket, near-luxury brand the standard equipment in the Essence trim should have been the ONLY trim level offered, with various option packages available. This is how Acura, another "near-luxury" brand does it and they seem to have more success than GM/Buick with that pricing model. Body cladding is easily removed except for the front bumper which has to be either replaced with a bumper from the non-wagon trims or have a lot of body filler and be repainted due to the presence of slots under the black cladding. Leather; Katskinz or OEM seats?

    • @paxhumana2015

      @@emmalab02 , I would shoot for hand-stitched leather if I were you on getting new seats for your vehicle. Recaro seats for your vehicle might be a bit too much, but having an upgrade with the seats that you currently have up front with multiple direction, as well as climate controlled, seats might be a good thing for your vehicle. You also had some good points that you made with this video and you should also look into some aftermarket/custom upgrades to get you the parts and features that you need. I will also say that you need to get some engine, transmission, and chassis upgrades, especially a potential highest level LS V8 engine, as well as to get further engine and transmission upgrades from Saleen, Lingerfelter, Hennessey, or Callaway Cars, though Steve Morris Engines also has some nice packages for engines and transmissions if you want as well.

      The engine is the tried and true LTG which is used in the Cadillac CTS & ATS, the Chevy Camaro and Malibu, and the Buick. It reliably makes over 300HP with mods in the CTS/ATS/Camaro, but is torque limited in the transverse mounted applications due to the transmission limits. In the case of the TourX, we have the transverse mounted 8-spd Aisin transmission shared with the Lexus RX and ES as well as various Volvo's, BMWs, etc. Long story short, the power train is the bright spot and shouldn't worry you; the calibration is just annoying to enthusiast drivers because it's tuned for smoothness/longevity.
