Love it! Like you, Chris, I run the 572xp most, but I’d take the 550xp for the long haul. The other day I bucked up a 36” pine with my 550xp and 20” bar. Oh yeah, pine is fine.
Dad was 86 years old when he ran his 15lb Deere 66sv 2 cylinder chainsaw. It was his go-to. Although his MS391 was nearly 2 lbs lighter, he almost never used it! The Echo built Deere got pretty well worn out whilst the 391 sat Stihl😂 Bless’ns!
372 XP! I have five of them right now. Great power, reliable starting, automotive style air filter that stays clean with air injection. Still a carburetor. Mine's never let me down. Hundreds of cords over the last half dozen years.
Chris - At 84 I love my 562xp but I find that I also go with my vintage 455Rancher a lot. Yesterday was clearing blowdowns of dead Ash trees and the 450 was the saw of choice. Yep - getting old sucks but the alternative is much worse. If it starts, cuts and is comfortable - that's the saw to use. Stay safe - Dud
Nice job Chris. You are becoming the "Johnny Carson" of UA-cam with these celebrity interviews. As for saws, you know I have & like the Husky's. The one that is always sharp and always starts is the 455 Rancher. Grandpa said, dance with the girl you brought or the ride home will be real quiet. GNI
If I had to pick a chainsaw to use for the rest of my life, it would be my MS 261c I’ve had it for a little over five years now it has never let me down has always started when needed. It is the best chainsaw we’ve ever had! STIHL!
Man that was really cool to be in your video . Thanks . Also really cool to meet you person. See you next year maybe Chris . The saw was a jonesred 930 super . 80 -90 cc class . I almost cried the day it dead on the last cut on a big willow tree .
Good morning. Chris and everyone. To "putt around" home, my new Stihl MS291, with an upgraded 18 inch bar, is perfect for me. My second one is, a Makita DCS 4610 that I bought for 15 bucks, from its original owner.. It's a small saw that works great, for cutting small limbs up to 12 inches diameter. I seriously doubt, my saws are rated for commercial use though. GNI
Ms362c. Great power and light. Run all day with a 20 or 24inch bar. Love the 372xp, if weight wasnt a problem then it would win but for me the 362/400 from sthil are just a sweet ride
Haha This was so great...I still stand with my 462 choice so you haven't pulled me over to the dark-side yet LOL. Even tho i did look at a Husky yesterday (woops did i say that? don't tell Tony)
I ran a Stihl 015 from 1981 until 2016. I loaned it to a brother-in-law who promptly dropped a tree on it in 1995. It busted the fuel and oil tanks. Fortunately, a local small engine repair business was able to secure new parts and slap back together. In 2016, I could no longer find parts and it was retired. The fellow who ran the repair shop had a collection of chainsaws of old and I gave to him. I ran a Stihl 250 and 362 until major back surgery retired me me to 12” or 14” bar saws. I had a great ride to say the least.
currently own an MS 250 and 036 and have never liked the MS250 but if i had to pick just one saw it would be the 029 which i had mistakenly traded in for the 036 (which is an awesome saw) but the 029 with a longer bar on it was the ultimate saw for doing limbing amd cutting firewood

Yup, the 372 is the old school workhorse in the logging industry, it is a manual saw. The 572 is the new and improved high tech auto tune saw. Both great saws.

Great question love listening to all the different answers from different people from all walks of life, but we all have one thing in common. We need a chainsaw..
Purchased a new Stihl 044 in 1990 for $749.00, Stihl have it always ran 28” bar. Only used it to cut Dads and my firewood, 6 cords each, a year it is in near new condition. My first saw I ever owned was a McCulloch 125 SP, I didn’t know how heavy it was until I discovered the 044, I still have the 125 also in imMACulate condition. About 5 years ago I came a cross a gently used Husqvarna 372xp, non x torq, great saw. Pick one of those three saws, that’s my favorite. My loving Father passed about 10 years ago, he loved to join me on a fire wood outings, he had to give it up at 87, passed at 93, would have been 103 this year, the 125 would be a workout but 6 less cords? 🤔 NAW! MAC SP is RETIRED‼️ I am 76, hopefully I can cut to 87 but it would have to be with the 044 or 372. Thank for the great videos, enjoy them very much!
Well Chris I would have to say CS620X Echo it’s a lite weight saw lots of power (60cc) it will run 28in down to 20in bar my favorite saw now is my MS170 go figure. Keep on cutting
Being a husky man my whole life love my husky saws. But one saw for the rest of my life stilh 462 lighter than husky 562 but more power than 572. I'm going keep running my huskys for now in my late 50s and i cut a lot of firewood every year. Good question ⁉️
Oh man all great answers.. not many Husqvarna dealers around me where Stihl is everywhere. I would go with a Sthil 390. As it would do everything my 461s can do but the 390 is a lighter..
@@InTheWoodyard Back when I was a kid my Dad bought two Huskies, I don't remember the size but in the 80 they retailed for $1400 each, the first day out one of them, the tip of the spark plug broke off and locked it up, weeks or maybe months later the handle on the second one broke and he stuck his left index finger and knuckle into the chain, so I have always been a Stihl guy starting with the 032.
I don't have a huge sample size, but I'd have to go with the Ms391 I already have. When I first bought it, it wouldn't of been my choice 😂 grew to love it.
Hello you all. I have the cs 590 timberwolf echo. I like it. It feels a little heavy. After a hour of cutting, my forearms are a little sore. Where does this saw fit in with all the saws you guys are talking about? By the way, i have the 025 stihl. i had it for many years but had to do a upgrade and bought the echo. The stihl pissed me off. I had a new carb put on with other work. I used it a couple of times and one day i decided to use it and i couldn't pull the pull chain. Its big time locked up. I think theres something wrong with the camshaft. Im ready to cremate it. Does anybody know what could be wrong. By the way I took it to a stihl dealer that works on these saws. I had a 18 inch bar on it.
@DavidSmith-qg4dd Hey Dave does that mean you are recommending the Husqvarna that you have written there. I need another saw. But I need one that will run a 28 inch bar or more. I went to my place and asked them if they had a 28 for my timberwolf. They said my saw could only take a 24 inch bar or I would have to get a new saw. 4 inches longer isn't good enough if you ask me. Now a 28 30 or a 32 is good enough for me. What do you guys think. I'm talking new saw now brother wood cutters. From south jersey Phil
As someone who had one saw for a couple years I’d have to say a new saw pick would be a stihl 400 or husky 562. My older pick is my 034 turned 036 with a 25” light bar. I had an 18” bar on it and the stihl 25” light is the exact same weight. Get good reach for limbing and bucking, and top notch balance. Little light on power with a buried bar. A stihl 462 or husky 572 would be great choices as well.
I went with the Stihl 362 when I bought my saw 5 years ago. I cut firewood and 99% of what I cut is ash, oak, and hickory. Before that I was using a hand me down Mcculloch 1010. I never realized how slow that saw was until my dad bought his Husqvarna Rancher 455. I feel like the Rancher and my Stihl perform about the same.
Really the ms362 pro saw cuts the same as a clamshell 455 rancher. I had a 460 rancher and was kinda doggy with a 24”, what size bar are you using on your 362? Huge price difference in those two models.
Hey Chris! I’d like to play the chainsaw for life question!😊. I have a 365 Special which is pretty close to a 372xp, but as I’m getting older I agree I’d have to limb as well and buck / rip so I’m thinking perhaps to go with basically any Husky 50cc class XP saw. But to narrow it down - 254xp 😊 Super fun an entertaining video today Chris! Thanks for having us along! 🔥💯👍. See you tomorrow! GNI! Andrew from NB :)
G'day Chris,I brought this topic up a few months ago on the Boss mans Sunday live feed he's the bloke you can hear running a Ripsaw 500i not far from where you're standing, I said the MS400C has market leading rpm and power to weight ratio supplied by the worlds first Magnesium piston in a production saw not quite as powerful as the 500i but 1.5 pounds lighter and when a man turns 80 every pound counts. PS for me it has to be the MS 660 Magnum I'm only after saw logs I've got an 880 and a 400C I use a saw bench for docking my firewood, when I can no longer hold or start the greatest firewood saw ever made and I've got two 066 Magnums as well I'll turn on the central heating.
If I pick from saws I've run quite a bit, I'll pick my Stihl MS362. Hopefully, I never have to have just one saw. I take an MS261, MS362 and MS661c into the woods when I'm cutting firewood.
I have 2 neighbors both in their 80s who cut a lot of firewood. They both have a half dozen saws each and 90% of the time they both use Stihl 250/251...Sure going to be alot of guys in this video who have to park their chose very early in life is all I am saying...😅
If I had to pick one saw for the rest of my life it would be a stihl ms250 with a 18" bar. I've had my saw for about 12-13 years now and still use it more than my ms391 with a 25" bar.
worked in the woods in uk late 70s and 80s on the saw before moving on to machines and the jonsered 630 was the bees knees trying to find one now to do my firewood as a standby saw for old times sake but is like looking for bigfoot
I have a Husky 357xp that I bought from a tree cutter who has since passed. It has it scares and was well used. Runs like a champ and cuts like no other. I keep the 18” bar on it and have a 460 Rancher with a 24” bar for the bigger stuff if needed. I also have a MS251 which is great for small to medium stuff. I was looking at adding a Husky 562xp or a Stihl MS400 at some point. Service for either brand in my area is about the same, Stihl being closer but after the 357xp I lean towards Husky. Lol
A 60cc (562/362) class would be my choice, as a one saw. Provided it runs the whole time. If I have to maintain the thing and there is parts probably a 346xp or 372xp or the 670 champ/266xp, 395xp is the best for taking trees off the stump but to heavy. 400 or the 500i are good choices the 550xp is my favorite saw.
Ported 346 or ported 550. I love my hot rodded 346, but the ported 550 is stronger down low and more torquey. Both EXCELLENT in my book. My hopped up 562 waste of money, 7900 dolkita for the “dumb” size stuff n milling
Interesting answers . Some obviously think they're never going to get old. I'd go for the Stihl 362 C and 16" bar. Maybe Id have a 20 " bar for it too just in case . Just cut smaller wood and take your time. The 261 C would probably work too
82 here and i us a 455 for everything even cutting brush and i aint that strong these days. just a dang good saw. wicked easy to start, that is if you dont put the bar oil in the gas tank and visa versa which i have done cause i have these brain farts occasionally.
I'm old and prefer my 1 hand chainsaw, a Stihl MS 194, the fastest for collecting fire wood. Saw in 1 hand and the other hand has piece and throws it in the wagon and next one.
64 and running 20cc jumps 261, 572 and 592 with my old 044s being my favorite, one saw for the remainder would be the 261 with maybe a chance of a 562 or 400i splitting the 50cc-70cc class if it was only cutting firewood🤔 throw in spending 8-12hr days clearing building maintaining trails and it would be the 261 or smaller.😉
Great question and I guessed about half of the peoples answers. Especially the 500i owners.🤣 For me it is hard because the two saws I run are both good examples of saws that realistically fit this question. Stihl 261c and 400c. Taking the rest of your life into consideration I would say the 261c! Power to weight is awesome on both saws but when we get older the 261 with a 20” bar will cut anything your body will allow you to handle😂 If it had to be a Husky I would say 545xp Thanks for the vid Chris👍🏻👍🏻GNI
I am 71 and have run many different chainsaws over my lifetime ..up to 33” bars . By far the smoothest saw and very user friendly saw is my 572 Xp with a 24” lightweight bar , 3/8s skiptooth chain .. the best , that would be my choice.
I do 90% of my cutting with a 261 but you all keep making me think that I might need to try out something between the 60 and 70 cc I also have the 395xp but it doesn't come out much
First of all, Congratulations on a great mule deer. Now, that's said the survey is totally invalidated without Tony's answer. I'm gonna have to go with the Stihl 400 C.M.

The 590 is a good size saw, great pick!
Husqvarna 562xp 550xp 036 pro
Yup, all good ones!
@@InTheWoodyard lots of good ones to pick
I went with the Stihl 362 when I bought my saw 5 years ago. I cut firewood and 99% of what I cut is ash, oak, and hickory. Before that I was using a hand me down Mcculloch 1010. I never realized how slow that saw was until my dad bought his Husqvarna Rancher 455. I feel like the Rancher and my Stihl perform about the same.
That is a good saw choice!
But to narrow it down - 254xp 😊
Super fun an entertaining video today Chris! Thanks for having us along! 🔥💯👍. See you tomorrow! GNI! Andrew from NB :)
You're in! Good choice!
Nice saws!
echo 2511t, whether you're 5 or 95 years old, you can use it one handed and rip with it. Japanese engineering 👍
Nice!
I have one. We could use them even in the nursing home.🙂
That is an easy question for me, it would be from my existing collection a Husqvarna 357XP.
Good one!
This is a GREAT video!!!👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks!
He never said I couldn’t modify it so I would pick a STIHL MS400 ported
good choice!
hi Chris,Ed from Vt.,my main saw is a 2152 Johnshred saw with an 18 in bar on it,i also hav2 2145-18 in bar,2142-16 in bar, perfect of my use
Yup, good picks!
If I pick from saws I've run quite a bit, I'll pick my Stihl MS362.
Hopefully, I never have to have just one saw. I take an MS261, MS362 and MS661c into the woods when I'm cutting firewood.
smaller is smarter when it is forever!
I own both stihl and husky. And if you asked this question to me, I don't even have to think about it. It's a stihl 462c hands down.
That is a great saw for sure!
I have 2 neighbors both in their 80s who cut a lot of firewood. They both have a half dozen saws each and 90% of the time they both use Stihl 250/251...Sure going to be alot of guys in this video who have to park their chose very early in life is all I am saying...😅
Yup, a lot picked to big, forever is a long time with a heavy saw!
77 yrs. Old, have a rancher 455. Has all the power I need. Just got a 120, that I use a lot. Love my Husky's. What grade fuel do use in your saws
If I had to pick one saw for the rest of my life it would be a stihl ms250 with a 18" bar. I've had my saw for about 12-13 years now and still use it more than my ms391 with a 25" bar.
Yup, good choice!
worked in the woods in uk late 70s and 80s on the saw before moving on to machines and the jonsered 630 was the bees knees trying to find one now to do my firewood as a standby saw for old times sake but is like looking for bigfoot
They sound like a great saw!
Chris...Hands down, Dolmar 6100. Light, outstanding anti-vibe, easily tuned, easily ported, lots of low-end grunt. One of the best saws ever made!
Nice! I would like to run one some day!
Lol
Good size saws!
Yup, good points!
I have heard a lot of great things about the 550!
Interesting answers . Some obviously think they're never going to get old. I'd go for the Stihl 362 C and 16" bar. Maybe Id have a 20 " bar for it too just in case . Just cut smaller wood and take your time. The 261 C would probably work too
Smart move!!!
Seconded... my 362 has been a total trooper 👍
I cannot believe nobody said the 044. Im not a Stihl guy, even i love the 044.
My favorite saw is the one that runs good and is sharp!!
My ported MS461. Done.
Nice!
Stihl ms 261 c-m it's light enough for everything small so you can work all day long and strong enough to handle the big stuff
Greta choice!
82 here and i us a 455 for everything even cutting brush and i aint that strong these days. just a dang good saw. wicked easy to start, that is if you dont put the bar oil in the gas tank and visa versa which i have done cause i have these brain farts occasionally.
Good saw! I too have done the bar oil and gas switcharoo! Ha!!!
I'm old and prefer my 1 hand chainsaw, a Stihl MS 194, the fastest for collecting fire wood.
Saw in 1 hand and the other hand has piece and throws it in the wagon and next one.
Nice!!!
Yup, smart!
Yup, smart move my good man!
I am 71 and have run many different chainsaws over my lifetime ..up to 33” bars . By far the smoothest saw and very user friendly saw is my 572 Xp with a 24” lightweight bar , 3/8s skiptooth chain .. the best , that would be my choice.
Good Morning Woodhounds!!
Hello!
I do 90% of my cutting with a 261 but you all keep making me think that I might need to try out something between the 60 and 70 cc I also have the 395xp but it doesn't come out much
That is a good size ....forever.
I have 462, 261 and 400C. 400C is my pick. It really surprised me when I buried the 25” bar in a 30+” oak and it didn’t check up.
good pick!
@@InTheWoodyard the best advice I can give about the 400C is to run thinner Stihl bar oil. Doesn’t like thick oil at all on the 25” bar.
First of all, Congratulations on a great mule deer.
Now, that's said the survey is totally invalidated without Tony's answer.
I'm gonna have to go with the Stihl 400 C.M.
That is a good one!
I Will pick the ms 261 cm with light 04 bar and chain
That is a good choice!
I have a 572 and love it but would go 562 all day!
Yup! good choice!
I think I would go with a Husqvarna 572 xp, which I don't have at the moment. The 592 xp is a little heavy and the 562 xp a little small.
Good choice!
I'm 64 and I grab the 281xp first. I do like my 372xp almost as much.
Yup, good saws.
550xpg mk2 for me.
Good pick!
Some fast talkers 😅
yup!
No primer bulb 572, if there was one.
Okay!
Ms 360 pro only one i use... have good one wood dude
Great saw!
I'll stick with my 2159 Jonsered or my backup a 3.7ci Craftsman (Polan), both scream using Amzoil with 18 bars
NICE!
My wife's uncle cut firewood into his 90s! Not sure which chain saw he used.
Nice!
372 full wrap
Great saw but at 90 years old it will be a little heavy!
@@InTheWoodyard
Very heavy 😅
