The first rated R movie I watched in theaters was Harold & Kumar, with my korean mother, who barely spoke english. I remember seeing the trailers for the movie back when I was in middle school and being super excited to see a korean actor on the big screen. When my friend and I got to the movie theater, we were heartbroken because we were under age. Frantically I ran out to the parking lot and begged my mother to watch with us. She was easily convinced after I told her the lead actor in the movie was a korean man. Thank you John Cho for the hilarious movie and the awkward conversations I later had to have with my mother about animal seamen. And thank you to Tigerbelly and the Slept King for this episode!
Awesome story!
Good stuff!
How did your mom react to the movie?
This made me tear 😢 😊
That's so awesome man!
Huge respect to JC for the path that he chose to take on his Hollywood journey. So awesome to have an opportunity to hear him speak candidly about so many topics.
Thank you Tigerbelly for another great guest and another awesome episode! Kia ora from New Zealand!
Shout out to Mr John Cho. He was my high school english teacher. We would ditch as soon as we got to school, but we would all come back to school for Mr Cho’s class. He taught a bunch a inner city kids with No guidance how to focus and communicate. Still can’t spell for shi though 🤦🏾♂️. But Salute Mr Cho
Love this. Last part was funny still can't spell for shit lol
This like the 8th person who I've heard used to be a teacher is this a running gag?
I think it's a Cowboy Beebop reference
@@OS-yg9fr you're strange

I like watching this podcast to see Bobby grow as a person. His insecurities still shine through like a damn sun through an open window, but it’s how he acknowledges those insecurities that have resonated with me. That, in turn, has also helped me acknowledge some of my insecurities. So thanks, Bobo. I appreciate it.
My favorite thing about Sleepy Bobo is how open and honest he is with everything. I love how he laughs at himself and he makes my day so much brighter!
He wears his heart on his sleeve & I love him for it.
Honestly expressing yourself...it is very difficult to do. I mean it is easy for me to put on a show and be cocky and be flooded with a cocky feeling and then feel like pretty cool...or I can make all kind of phony things, you see what I mean, blinded by it or I can show you some really fancy movement. But to express oneself honestly, not lying to oneself...now that, my friend, is very hard to do.

@@parisab6 honest??? Bobby lee?
Dude, if you needed to hear Bobby Lee speak to help with your insecurities, your a lost cause. Don’t look up to these Hollywood people, find people in your own life. If you can’t, get them in your life.
John Cho is an AMAZING actor and it legit warms my heart to know he and Bobby are long time friends. They need to write a comedy I bet they'd kill it!
A dad and son story. Maybe Bobby’s antics get him divorced from johns mom. Cast a smoke show, have them go through a project x/hangover type night that inadvertently ends in Bobby regaining his honor in the eyes of johns mom. Making them a Happy family again.
@@danieldeleon5804 Bobby is only one year older than John.
Dude u seen that one scene of him in American Reunion? When Jim crashes the car with that chick..and he pulls up in his car and is like "OMG...ARE YOU ALRIGHT?!"
@@danieldeleon5804 I’m not sure how a project x/hangover type could possibly end well lmao, I’m willing to listen to any and all scenarios.

Love what John Cho stood for in trying to clean up the perception of Asians in Hollywood. Super Admirable and my Respect level for him has gone way up after watching this. We need more people like him, great episode! Bobby and John gotta do a Movie together!
well put, hes an extremely admirable man 👍🏻

Almost fainted when I saw the picture. Been a fan of Cho since Better Luck Tomorrow. This is Korean entertainment Royalty right here. Lee and cho talking together it's a delight.

As a Māori woman. It brings me lots of joy watching everyone grill Bobby and John Cho genuinely taking interest and trying to understand Māori history. So cool 🥰
bobby isnt really that stupid. he played into it a little bit to be funny. but hello fellow kiwi :)
This John Cho dude is the best listener I have ever seen in my 19 years of being alive. He listens so well like good good. yeah thats it

This episode confirmed something for me that I think I always knew instinctively but now I know for sure: John Cho is a phenomenal talent… and he’s also just a mensch. This is probably my favorite episode. Also… one other thing: John single-handedly described Bobby better than anyone ever has before and named and described what should definitely be Bobby’s next podcast. BODY PASSION. That absolutely killed me. Hilarious. John Cho is insightful and also absolutely hilarious.
Bobby’s hair is kind of glorious. John Cho is a handsome magical man, was awesome in New Girl. Great work everyone 🐯
Great in cowboy bebop

It's so awesome to see Bobby more chill (and less confrontational) when the guest is someone he knows super well. also it's rad how John has a sort of respect shield around him as well!
You can't be mad at John Cho, just can't
Loved John improv-singing to Bobby’s intro, a first for a guest right?, & Bobby happily surprised. ☺️
Gilbert was probably jealous
I remember being an 11 year old and watching Harold and Kumar, and thinking "why doesn't this guy have an accent?"
So, I think John succeeded with his approach.
I too used to wonder that
why would he have an accent..
@@dosage13 because every Asian on television did back then. That was kinda his point.
@Blia Yang I grew up in Canada where we have lots of citizens of Asian descent so I was always confused when every Asian person on screen was some 18th century Chinese man
This guy is the first actor where I felt like it was really what Asian people in America are like
@@keircampbell9374 the US is comparable in terms of Asian proportion, the people who never saw an Asian person who actually grew up in the US probably just don't live in a major city, which seems to be a higher proportion because of all the habitable space. As far as I understand it more Canadians live in more concentrated areas. I myself grew up in a small town and only knew of three half Asian people until I was 18, that was it. It didn't affect how I saw Asian people, but it does for quite a few people who grow up in small towns, such that their conception of them is based fully on media
AHHH I've been waiting for this one!! Thanks Tigerbelly crew!! ❤

As an Asian woman in my mid 40’s this conversation mean so much. I’m so thankful for the work Bobby Lee and John Cho have done. John was right, the idea of there can only be one was the standard for so long and kept people back. There’s room slowly for more than one as the doors creep open thanks to the path these folks have helped to pave.
Jon cho is so respectful of bobo and I have always liked him but this makes me love him more👍

John being so comfortable with her picking the booger out of Bobby’s nose shows how genuine and chill John can be and hasn’t changed, a rare sight for an actor of his massive reach these days.
18:57 I can't not cackle uncontrollably when Bobby yells full blast. I find it hilarious.

Don't say this often, but this was the perfect podcast episode! Drama, comedy, cool anecdotes. Bravo 👏🏾
Bobby's reason for what got him into a Star Trek The next generation is the same for me. Star Trek represents The highest potential of humanity. An enlightened civilization. And that's way more exciting.
What a great episode, John is such an interesting, awesome, talented guy.

This episode got me emotional. As an asian dude it was hard to hear others with similar struggles even though we all know how real it is. A lot of these micro aggressions from society really eats away at you. This was a great funny pod
Yes, it was very brave of them.

@@Gogofam123 you can call it virtue signaling or whatever. I’m just in the moment. I wasn’t advocating people to give me praise. You call it virtue signaling, I call it life in reality. these conversations I don’t even have with my polygamist father, 13 siblings or my 30+ nephews and nieces. I am close to none of my family members like I am with a few select friends. Growing up refugee style in the USA you have to figure out how to be a functioning human being and if your family didn’t coach you through the important lessons you have to figure it out on your own. If you actually listen to what they were talking about I’m not virtue signaling, im relating to human story’s. If you’re that upset about my opinion then we will never see eye to eye
@@SeeHang sooner you understand that they are professional entertainers and they say anything that is currently accepted to benefit their career sooner you’ll grow up . They perpetuate the same racist stereotypes, they are naturally hypocritical. FOR EXAMPLE :notice when the guest said that they had difficulty finding gay actor in Dubai he attributed it to CULTURAL environment, not homophobia but CULTURAL ENVIRONMENT. So basically if it’s in US ITS HOMOPHOBIA , if it’s in DUBAI it’s cultural… why ? Because bashing Dubai is bad for career but it’s perfectly safe to bash America.

But you still feel for the Asian actors that have to, and had to, take those stereotypical roles, right?
