@@TheBabyCaleb Yeah, the director's comment indicate there's a long story planned. Could be the second one goes the Empire Strikes Back way where D-16 becomes Megatron and Orion Pax becomes Optimus Prime and they fall out.

The opening scene from Bumblebee will always be my favorite vision of what a transformers movie could be if they had the money to do it.
Transformers One is taking from a lot of the modern Transformers media, not G1, the basic idea is Optimus Prime was an iacon data clerk called Orion Pax & Megatron was a mine worker called D-16, the two fought for equality on Cybertron which was being ruled by Sentinel Prime & an oppressive Autobot government & it’s broken caste system.
D-16 (who eventually named himself Megatron after Megatronus, one of the 13 original Primes) sought to violently overthrow the regime, but Orion Pax sought arbitration, the two eventually fell out over this & Megatron lead a revolution against the Autobots, Orion eventually was bestowed the Matrix of Leadership which transformed him into Optimus Prime.

The story isn't the issue. It's the tone. Transformers isn't slap stick goofy ass comedy. It just isn't and never has been.

They’re plenty of transformers media where we have a good mix of both. And I think yeah it’s looks comedic but I think it will definitely have its serious moments as well
It's not for the 80s kids. It's for a new generation. They definitely didn't make this for adults.
To be fair, Megatron and Optimus were indeed friends in a lot of continuities before the war started. Sure, this is definitely a more kid-oriented telling of it, but it's not unusual to show their previous history.
Definitely not, (for those that don’t know) them being friends has been a thing since like 2010 or so with the Aligned continuity.

You have to think that the tone will shift dramatically once they get to the core of why Optimus and Megatron will end up being bitter enemies.

Forgot to mention I’m not opposed to different actors playing different parts. (Yes including voice acting) but I don’t think hemsworth was the right guy for Optimus. I think a great example of a different actor playing an iconic part and being fantastic is Bruce greenwood playing Batman in Under the Red hood.
Wrong- Optimus and Megatron were friends before the war in IDW comics, Tranformers prime, and Tranformers war for cybertron. The names, enemies, and details are all lore accurate. It's the tone that feels bad here.
If I didn’t have a 4 year old son I would agree about the trailer being bad. But having a 4 year old I watched this trailer thinking, my son would love this, and I’ll definitely be taking my son to see it.

People forget Transformes is a kids franchise and the truth is eventually and I hope it takes a long time we will need new voices for Optimus and Megatron.
Plus, Chris worked with Peter Cullen to figure out how Orion should sound and honestly it seemed really good to me🤷♂️

Plus Chris is doing a young Optimus and I am sorry Peter couldn’t do a young voice properly just like Mark Hamill couldn’t do young Luke in the video games or tv shows.

That's what I was hoping for. A whole movie of that is my ideal Transformers movie. That scene was perfect. But, whateves. My son is excited and I'm sure it will be a fun watch with him. It gives me Mutant Mayhem vibes. For now I'll just rewatch the War for Cybertron trilogy on Netflix for a third time. So far its my favorite iteration of the Tformers. It isn't perfect, but it's closest thing to what I want from the series.

People need to relax this is not just gonna be some buddy cop story they are just portraying the good side of the relationship between d-16 and Orion in this trailer
Joseph Quinn gave me Robert Downey Jnr vibes in Stranger Things too. I hope they don’t write his character as being arrogant, and self centred. I want him to be confident, cocky, sarcastic, but still likeable.
I think people are overthinking the Transformers One and looking for more from it than it needs to be. I don't think it was made for existing fans of the 80s cartoons or the Michael Bay movies, it seems made for little kids who haven't ever been exposed to it. It doesn't look all that great to me, but I think my kids will like it.

I'm a bit surprised at the hate for the Transformers movie trailer. I mean, I I haven't been a TF fan in a while (I'm still fond of the old 80s animation and movie), but oof, you guys were brutal. But, listening to you guys got me all kinds of worked up b/c you guys, completely unironically, talked about premature movie hate regarding Superman and the casting of the actress for Silver Surfer while completely ripping on the TF trailer despite not having seen that.
The tone being all over the place wasn't a problem b/c they were likely showing us entirely different sections, facets and tones the cartoon was going to be covering. Yes, there will be funny stuff, yes there will be serious stuff, yes there will be looking at the origins of these two iconic characters, yes they will be delving into that Prof X/Magneto-like dynamic.
Winston brought up that we've never seen Optimus and Megatron like this... and that's the point! I know there are some properties that have covered their time on Cybertron, but the audience at large probably hasn't seen any of Prime and Megatron's past except the bits they cover in the movies.
You guys brought up how they retooled Daredevil and Sonic, but this is the first trailer, right? You can only retool something after you've dropped it and seen/heard the reaction. Frankly, I don't think it needs to be retooled, but how do you retool something if you haven't seen the reaction to them yet?
To me, it had all the energy of the 80s enthusiasm and coming of age feel, but instead of Spike, it's Optimus becoming Optimus and Megatron becoming Megatron. And have you guys watched the 80s cartoon recently? It was chock full of 80s goofiness. Which is what the 'dumb' fumbling around in the house scene in the Bay movie was parodying. Those 80s cartoons were made for kids, we just still have fond memories of them 35 years later, but seem upset that they're not catering to us now? Sure, they can make something that appeals to both (and this very well may), but those 80s cartoons and movie were definitely made with kids (and merchandising) in mind.
I know you guys hedged your bets at the end by saying that you guys want to be wrong about this and I'm usually the one that's cautious and look at things with folded arms (but not the absolute nerdrage - I can do that sometimes too - we see on youtube here and there), but you guys were just ruthless. *And I can't stress this enough*, you guys completely unironically proceeded to talk about how people are online raging at things that they hadn't even seen yet and worked up over castings without knowing what was in store b/c these films and properties haven't been released and won't be for a little bit yet! I’m with you that this trailer didn’t sell me but I disagree with the idea of Optimus/megatron origin. I know there have been stories of them being friends early on and I find it super intriguing to see that fleshed out and what the rift between them is. With all that said, I was hoping for something different but I’m hoping I’m surprised! Great show today!
I think this movie is going to throw a big curveball at us and is going to be more serious than this trailer is letting on. They're probably showing their friendship to make the inevitable split more heartbreaking.
I 100% think so. The director said they focused on the comedy because of the chemistry of the actors. I think the second trailer will show more of the seriousness of it and besides the director saying it will, it has to in order to show the falling out of the two and and the war going on at the end of probably the newly formed Decepticon faction, going to war with Sentinel Prime’s bots/Vehicons and also Prime, Bee and Elita in the mix. That divide must be heartbreaking.

I am also but not 100% when hearing since I don’t disagree the comedy isn’t the best. But I know the film will be more serious than portrayed here and yeah they’ve been like that for a while now in lore so hopefully he hears that since he didn’t know that.
The problem is not the story premise. The problem is the writing. The millennial reddit humor.

Optimus and Megatron were best friends in many iterations before the war for Cybertron began. That being said, their relationship is more of a tragedy, not this buddycop nonsense this trailer was doing. Hopefully this has a dark ending because the tone seems way off for what the end result of what this movie is gonna be.
As a fan I liked the trailer a lot better on second rewatch, lot of cool easter eggs and bits in here for the fans (Quintessons, homages in designs, possibly the original 13 Prime’s tomb, Vehicons, Seekers, Starscream, Soundwave and Shockwave), shocked to see Arachnid in here. Worth mentioning the directors said the movie will have comedic moments but it will get real and serious in the film when it needs to. Which GOOD since this is telling the divide between D-16 and Orion. Megatron and Optimus being friends also for those that don’t know is not a new thing been around for years now.
Yeah I saw somewhere a really good point: stuff like Spiderverse and the recent Puss in Boots movie had a lot of the "cheesy" jokes in the first trailer, but the movies themselves had a lot of sincere and serious moments in them that everyone grew to love

In one of the comic runs, Megatron and Optimus were friends and coworkers.
IDW did it. Back when Prime was Orion Pax.
IDW also turned Megatron good and it worked well (before Earthrise)
It was even said in the movies I thought they acknowledged they were all friends and lived in peace before Cybertron had its Civil War
Enjoyed it and my kids 12 and 9 years old REALLY loved it. I think sometimes it’s hard for those of us who grew up on these things have realize that we are not who they are making these things for anymore. On to the next generation! And if we like it too that’s great

17:40 You know it was definitely not what I was expecting but I do like it. I don't love it, but I do appreciate what they are doing here. It does feel like a breath of fresh air for the franchise while also taking inspirations from what we are familiar with in the franchise. I can definitely appreciate a lot of the nods and references that I was able to pick out in the background. I will admit, I'm not the biggest fan of the animation style 100% of the time, but it is growing on me. So as a long time transformers fan I'm actually really excited for this but also cautiously optimistic.
All your shows give me hours of entertainment each week. I look forward to them and perk up when a new one drops. Thanks for the consistent hard work man!

All those 70’s, 80’s and 90’s cartoons existed to sell toys to kids. Now, they don’t have cartoons that sell toys to kids anymore. They have things that are geared to sell to adults who were kids in the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s. They never really learned how to make new things for new young audiences and just keep trying to sell to us instead. We can have adult versions of our favorite childhood experiences, while making things that work for the youth of today. You don’t have to try and make 1 thing both.
This is true. While they're trying to appeal to 90's kids and older they also double dip and try to draw in a new generation of kids.
I remember having these same sentiments when I 1st saw the new Ninja turtles movie. Then I watched it and was presently surprised. I've seen enough BayBots and "real world" transformers movies for now, it's time for something new.
For the first half of the trailer, I felt the way you did. By the end of the trailer, I'm thinking maybe we're the ones who are missing the mark.

The thing to remember is that Transformers One is clearly aimed at kids, and made for kids. We’re a bunch of grown ups saying how bad it looks, but if we were 10 year olds we’d probably be LOVING the trailer.
We all struggle with understanding this. All these IPs are geared towards kids. Yes, they dont mind taking our money aswell, but its always been kids. Its not for us

I hope you can recover what was supposed to be today's show. Those Thursday shows are some of my favorites. As for Transformers One, you guys are the only ones I've seen so far who don't like trailer. I think I'm leaning in that direction too. When I heard there was gonna be an animated film, I was picturing it looking like the opening scene from Bumblebee, except lighter hearted. This one's obviously light hearted, but they're clearly aiming for little kids. I don't know if I want to see it now. As for Neva Howell playing Martha Kent, I've never heard of her before, but if James Gunn cast her, then she must be a good fit for the role.

im in the middle on it I've read some of the cybertron origin stories some of the comics runs have done so i hope they took on one. plus otimus n megatron was cool in the beginning but a philosophical split will come. but the tone concerns me if they intend to do big numbers
The movie will get serious, just the trailer focuses more on the comedic. So when we get to their divide whatever it is in this universe, it’s going to get real and serious.

If this movie makes money and it sells toys, Hasbro will turn all their IP's into paw patrol movies like this one. They are shilling toys, yes the old show did that, but compare how anime it was compared to other shows of the time, that show and the movie did some amazing things unique to that show. This movie looks and feels like every other kids 3d movie these days. I feel sorry for them.

Actually, Megatron and prime we’re friends before. But it was during his Orion Pax days. They did that in generation one transformers 30+ years ago. if I remember correctly, Megatron killed Orion pax and ended up being rebuilt into Optimus prime. Netflix did a transformers miniseries that delved back into the history of megatron and prime. It was pretty cool. I don’t think they had the friendship go back as far as Orion Pax days that’s really old school. That being said, I don’t care for the vibe. It might be good, but the trailer didn’t do anything to get me excited about it.
When I watched the trailer I was a bit taken aback by it at first as it wasn't the tone I was expecting this to be but I gotta say I really enjoyed this im a big animation fan im hoping it's good maybe it will have that the lego movie feel for those that might have been disappointed by this first trailer ill say wait till you the next trailer before making any conclusions it could be drastically different and maybe it's just the marketing team prioritising the humorous aspects thats all just my thoughts
My biggest issues are that it looks like they took a random kids movie and slapped Transformers characters on it and that they used a well known Stones song in the trailer. The song is a classic, but it does not belong in a Transformers movie trailer. This is not Shrek. Hopefully the film has an original score and not a mix tape soundtrack.

I’m not a big Transformers fan, I enjoyed the new Transformers trailer. it looks like it’s geared more towards kids and people that aren’t hardcore fans.
Definitely a bit more kids is far from bad since this franchise is for kids and we need new fans anytime we can get some. But while still being something for fans. Cause let me tell you as a hardcore, lots of easter eggs in this trailer, more than I expected.
I liked it. The action looks great and I think the comedy is to throw you off. I think it will have it serious moment. I feel like people are still so used to Micheal bay seriousness of the transformers that anything that’s not that turns them off. I’m definitely going to see this film

I thought it would have the tone of the Cybertron games. But it's aimed at kids and can be enjoyed or loved by adults. Not happy, but going in with an open mind. By the end the tone could change and set up a sequel for that will be more like G1 transformers. I'm 42 by the way, so my age should let you know what I expect from my Transformers

Hey Christian first time watching your pop culture episodes from your UAP stuff but only because I am a big Transformers fan lol. Yes I’m old enough to remember them all the way back to 1984 and before so Microman/Diaclone days. As a G1er yes this dissapoints, Paramount has made this a clone of Earthspark and gives me both bot bot and rescue bots vibes so yes making it a Pixar feel which for pre schoolers and those new fans it will bring in, brilliant. Maybe Hasbro/Paramount feel that there is more than enough product out there for long time adult fans and collectors such as Masterpiece and Legacy and Studio Series toys but I’m pretty sure that’s what many of us were expecting or at least something in the same universe as Rise of the beasts which it clearly isn’t. I was thinking more along the lines of the recent War For Cybertron Netflix show although that left a lot to be desired but at least it was a serious sci fi show or something like the War For Cybertron/Fall of Cybertron video games from around 2013 but alas Paramount/Hasbro are all over the shop with this franchise. The development of Megatron from lowly miner to political activist to maniacal leader did begin early on in G1 around 1985 with a text based story in the 1995 UK annual called State Games but it was really developed by IDW comics in more recent media and the WFC Netflix show. Machinimas Prime wars trilogy web cartoon in 2014 brought in the concept of Megs being well not evil shall we say which as you say goes against the whole concept of Megatron
I fully support and endorse PJ and his love of the trailer, i don’t like a list actors and voice acting for animation and I don’t like A-List actors doing comic book character roles as well…I loved the animation style as well

In a lot of the comics, Orion and him were friends, and those comics are great. I'd recommend them. Also, I think the big fans will love this, if it's written well. They became enemies because they chose different sides. There was a time before the war, and it's interesting.
I have a lot of problems with this trailer, but I don't think making Optimus and Megatron former friends is that bad of an idea. Yeah, they've never really been presented that way before, but neither have Clark and Lex in Smallville and that was great! (mostly) I think the issue is more with the tone.
Kristian, you might be able to restore the video you deleted, by restoring your pc or windows to a previous version/date , i.e the day you filmed the show for Wednesday but at a time it was STILL on the pc. Or there might be recovery software . The wangers might be able to help out or someone on the tech side of things.

I keep hearing everyone saying this is made for kids. That's not a good enough excuse.. The G1 series was also made for kids and i never watched as a kid thinking of it as a comedy cartoon. I had loony tunes for that. The 86 TF movie was also made for kids and although it had a few funny spots it was serious and a bit dark, but still considered one of if not the best TF movie made. I would ever gather that most of toys sold aren't sold to kids but to adults. It's why Hasbro keeps bringing out all of the old g1 figures.
I quite liked the trailer. Does look like a tv show for kids & teens. King Fu Panda / Minions etc movies make bank, though

I thought the trailer was fine. Its for kids, right? And I'm sure kids will love it. Not everything is for everyone. I thought it looked fine.
And regarding the FF news. If course Norrin would also be in it. Those who got upset over a woman are absurd. Upset over a thing we didnt even know all the facts about nonetheless. If this is true, I hope people can learn to take the time to wait for all the facts before loosing it. And obviously, im not talking about those people who will go info a film with an open mind but sad a character they love isnt potentially in it.
Realized everyone upset Optimus and. Megatron were friends but some folks were ok with Clark and Lex friendship on Smallville. But I wish they get the story right on Transformers.
My Transformers prequel head canon movie starts with showing the audience how the Cybertronians are born enslaved into a caste system. Two friends drafted and seperated into two different lifestyles. The Workers caste and the Slave gladitorial caste. Orion doesnt begin the hero and is actually clueless to what is really going on as he is content with his life until he is invited to watch a brutal gladitorial match where he sees his friend fighting for his life. His friend quickly rises through the Gladitorial ranks as their champion and this motivates him to become Megatron, a leader among them and they stage a rebellion. Orion among a rag tag of misfits from the workers caste try to join this rebellion not realizing how brutal his former friends and associates are. Now they must stop them from inciting a war on Cybertron but how are they to fight such brutal warriors?
Trailer wasnt bad. Not whqt my 46 year old big Transformers fan wants but not what i Indont understand and glad it looks like it does.

This TV adaptation of Shogun has been virtually remiss when it comes to the romance between Blackthorne & Mariko. If your wife is expecting an epic love story on par with Outlander, she'll be very disappointed... as I was.

As far as saying you don't need A listers for animated movies I would just ask who's gonna promote the movie? Noboby wants to watch Johnny Nobody the voice actor promote something on The Tonight Show. But you put Chris Hemsworth on doing the interview and probably play some sort of game that will probably go viral and you get butts in theaters.

Sorry, but Kris had a horrible take with this one. The general audience has zero clue what started the autobot/decepticon war in the first place. Prime and Megatron have had origin stories before. This'll be the first time it's on the big screen. Sure, not the tone I would've preferred, but it genuinely doesn't look bad. Also the brand has mostly always been corny campy goofy only up until Bay and a few mature comics..
Hey, that's totally fair- but sometimes I like a simple "hey they're at odds" unless I'm getting a delicious origin story. For me, this doesn't feel like it's going to be it. But if other folks dig it and want it, that's great! Not everything is made for me
@@kriscarr4929 Oh Hi Kris! Yes that's totally fine I completely understand that viewpoint. I think digging into the psyche of the characters and understanding how they end up at the point we all know them is pretty interesting. Movie could of course still be garbage but I suppose at least they're trying something different than just another live action generic film.
The cartoons were only tools to sell more Transformers toys to kids. It's only natural they'd eventually dumb them down and make them cute to appeal to children. It's not for me, and I realize that. But I bet some people with small kids will be sitting there front and center when this hits theaters.
The transformers just need to do a live action just on cybertron... NO HUMANS.

I think it's less about the trailer being bad and more about the direction they went in.
I was very excited to hear that there would finally be a film focusing on the War on Cybertron and I ( like many of you, im sure) was expecting it to be like what we saw in those few scenes in Bumblebee. Unfortunately, they chose to go in a more child-friendly direction.
The biggest disappointment is that whether this is good or bad, they won't be making another Cybertron-based origin story for a while.
Your first mistake was thinking this was War for Cybertron. This is the movie *before* we get to the war. People wanted WAR but we're not quite there yet.
@MRauTObt I would have been thrilled with a retelling of the IDW origin story. But even if they did that in this style, I wouldnt be interested. I just long for the days when we get a transformers film that treats its fans as adults.
