You did really well to capture the traction motor sounds at 9:40. These trains are notoriously difficult to record, particularly when the HVAC is operating at full capacity. You can also feel the doors close on these trains, making an otherwise peaceful trip somewhat annoying.
I actually kind of like the door sound! These trains are quiet, and i'm sure the average commuter probably thinks that quiet is good. I'm glad I actually managed to get some sound that isn't just aircon.
As far as I'm aware, these are proposed to be converted for suburban running once the New Intercity Fleet/Mariyung/D set is at operational capacity- so you may just see them on the T4 more often!
Glad you have a more positive outlook than some people here! Accessibility features and modern amenities are an important part of good transport design.
12:15 I nearly choked on me coffee here laughing like a maniac... tell me you didn't just address the fine Gippsland town of Traralgon as TERROR-GA-LONG?!?
Personally I think that when the Oscars are transfered to suburban, they should run the T8 line considering they have baggage racks up above and also toilets, for the longer trips. Long live the V sets :(
@@strawberrysoup1 Yes of course! They're usually coupled with T sets, look for green buttons next to the door. They're hard to distinguish at first but you'll get the hang of it... 👀
yeah the seats are my biggest problem on those. M set style seats for 3 hours runs to Newcastle. A lot of twitching and a great start to the day with a sore bum as I do occasionally make trips up there in early morning Sundays when they run OSCARS. >:( Great video though!
These trains are really good on train journeys.because they have the importance of toilets & luggage racks that passengers can use.& the window height on the oscar is quite different to the milleniums.because the m sets windows are quite higher than these ones from when they were built. & everything about this train is all modern & that you ll be able to hear the train guards announcements & see where the stops is with the destination board inside. & the Oscars used to be operated & was ordered under cityrail in those days.but is now nsw trainlink.
@@volgrenfanbus1294 yes.& I think the k sets are still a good train.but luckily is not replaced just yet.because they still have way to go before being replaced & are still on the Sydney trains network currently.
The Oscar is a good train, but it isn't comfortable for the Sydney to Newcastle run, speaking from multiple experiences... I think they will be quite decent on suburban services though (although the toilets and luggage racks may be removed).
The K set is a very dated product. Whilst I can appreciate they have served Sydney well, the vinyl seats, lack of information screens and other safety equipment means it is important to upgrade the network soon!
on short paltforms they should park the train with the shunted driver cars in the station so all passengers can get on/off and travel through the gangways instead of parking one half totally on the platform
I'm in suburban Sydney. Those seats are perfectly adequate for the journeys in undertake, mostly just a few stops north or south. The ride is good and the carriages quiet. I'd not like to travel any further than Woy Woy in the seats though. A poor choice, probably by a Minister who doesn't undertake longer journeys (if any!).
Definitely more than adequate for a suburban run or up to an hour or so, but definitely get a little sore after that. To be fair, the bars in between the seats on the V set also have the same uncomfortable effect.
Ah of course, the OSCAR. I do like these, the seats of course anger me too, not too sure what UGL or NSW TrainLink were thinking to use these seats on the OSCAR, espcially since they pretty much knew it was going to do Intercity runs, but we can't do much until the Mariyung NIFs come out; hoping they have good seats.
I'm very excited to try out the Mariyung trains! I know fixed seats aren't ideal, but there are a lot of other nifty features that should make the journey more comfortable.
@@strawberrysoup1yes, i realised most central to newcastle trips on weekdays that stop at more stations are run by oscars, but then v sets are used for the limited stops one idk why but i like the oscar seats, i think its just the nostolgia or something of when i was a kid and found out these trains had high seating (ofc i was like 1m 20 cm at the time so it was high for my kid self)

A driver once let me into the cab of a H-set and it was very modern for a train designed in 2006. One of my favourite trains!
Nice! They are a good bit of kit, and it will be interesting to see how they are when they move over to suburban running.
When I was 6 a driver let me into the cabin of a tram and let me open the doors. It was awesome. Would love to get into a proper train cab!
They should use this fleet for Blue Mountains service!
And T4 too tho (Cronulla service)

Maybe in a mid-life refresh they might change the padding and seat fabric, but it is quite an expensive thing to do!
At least they have a higher back than the M set seats, which does help a little.
