As to some people complaining about the price, I just bought the new swamp ash SE for $679 and it is every bit as nice as my American Fender Telecaster Pro and Gibson LP. Noticeable but not enough. Expensive guitars and basses are all about the diminishing returns, really. You pay 80% more for something marginally better
My biggest gripe with the SE models is the pickups. They are way too harsh in my opinion. Otherwise they are a great under $1k guitar in terms of build quality and such. My other issue with PRS is that you either pay $700 for one of their cheap guitars or $5k for their core models, there’s really not much in between. I know they have the S2 line for around $2k, but they have the same pickups as the SE. I’d rather get a Gibson for around $3k than a PRS 🤷🏻♂️
The SE's don't have some kind of universal pick-up. The McCarty sounds different from the Santana, which sounds different from the DGT, the Tremonti, Zach Myers, the Semi-hollows, Mayer, Paul's guitar, are all distinct from each other. So, I don't get the comment. The pickups can be swapped as well. So, getting a $750 PRS, with your favorite pick-ups would still cost less than 1k. It's ok to just say you would rather spend 3k on a Gibson, because you like their guitars better.
@@itsalwayssomething7490 I’ve played most of the SE line, with the exception of the Tremonti, and although they sound different, there’s still the same harshness. Basically what I am saying is that if they put better pickups in their SEs, they would hands down be the best guitar under $1k. I have an SE custom 24 and it’s definitely the best guitar I own in terms of playability. I don’t prefer Gibson over PRS, I just wish they were priced similar to Gibson, as I believe a $3k is more reasonable than $5k. I truly believe PRS is could hands down be better than Gibson or Fender if they changed a few things is all.
In guitars like this it's more about the feel.. To me nothing feels like a gibson les paul.. It's not that an epiphone won't sounds okay.. But gibson les paul almost plays itself. I mean it feels like it does of course. And when you're not putting effort into it.. Your fingers are gliding and bouncing off the strings effortlessly. You're gonna play better. But unless you are gigging and playing professionally or touring... I wouldn't worry about getting the top end shit.. If you're a professional... Do it!! (+ epiphones never stay in tune) I was pro from 1995-2005.. I could justify purchases like that then. Now a good tube amp is more important to me than the guitar. A great amp will make anything sound good
Obviously the biggest difference is in the feel. The USA Tremonti is god-tier, but man these SEs are getting good 🤘

A great amp will make anything sound good
And the winner is...... the Fendet S.R.V. singature from 1992! 🤔
Pickups are not the same, of course there is a tiny difference, but not much honestly
