I’ve lived in Calgary and there’s been very few days where it was -30 C not counting wind chill. Calgary isn’t actually that far North for it to get that kind of temperature normally.
@@mikedevyatov3213 ...Of course, we need to take into account of the wind-chill factor. This is the temp what we feel as a human being staying outdoor.
-30 isnt a normal temperature for December in Calgary even with a windchill factor. It is well below the average temperature. Average temperature is -2 high/-12 low. We do certainly hit -30 to -35 occasionally but not as often to be considered “normal”.
Hello fellow Calgarian! It sure was cold and roads were slippery in places, but the sun on the snow was bright and beautiful. I bundled up and went walking in Bowness Park - so beautiful!
Yeah but Calgary is designed for the cold and this isn't near the coldest cold snap that Calgary has experienced and certainly not the longest. If anything, the winters have been progressively warmer in Calgary for over twenty years now. Try minus 40 back when the pedestrian bridge to Chinook Centre was still an open concrete bridge (there was also a pedestrian tunnel but it was further south and less convenient. Chinook Centre also used to be separate buildings and not a joined mall... However, the bus shelters also used to have heaters back in the day. This recent -30 is nothing to those of us who grew up in this city, as far as cold snaps for Calgary is concerned, this has been balmy.
It actually hasn’t warmed as you state. From 1885 to present Calgary’s average annual temperature is 3.88 degrees C. As you would expect, some years are above and others below the long term average. 2020 was right on the long term average. From 1885 to present, 62% of all days 30 degrees and hotter came before 1960. Winters are about the same as when I was a kid.

A couple of nights ago it was minus 33 outside with the wind chill so I wore my heated vest inside of the house.
