Dr. Guha, while you are talking about a lack of contemporary history, through your columns , I urge scholars to do a history of the Indian Judicial
System, which is considered to be a pillar of our democracy, but has miserably failed to give justice to the common citizens. One has to just visit any court, District / High Court or the Supreme Court. Everyone who has ever filed a writ, will tell you how for 20 years or so they have struggled, but the case never ends.
Maybe , an authentic account of the working
functioning will improve the accountability, and bring some relief to the citizens. No one question the judges who give dates, admits writs which are already decided without proper scrutiny. There is no time limit.Even when orders are passed, there is no implementation.
Going to court is worse than going to hell. The system should be made accountable. If some one could just take case studies of the longest cases, and list out what happens from date to date and why after 30 years it is still alive.
If the delivery of justice is done in a time bound manner, quality of life will improve for the common man.

Gandhi is boring. If Godse threw this huge book to Gandhi, there was no need for any bullet.

Go back to dreaming about your dear leader of bengal who would've magically freed india with a rag tag group of airplanes.
