I work in Hexham. Just bought a gt750 on eBay to restore and tinker with which is how I found your Chanel. Shall be following your fork oil change tutorial shortly!
jjbradshaw1 Ah cool! What an awesome project! Hopefully the few relevant vids here will be useful to you. There’ll be more as the jobs need doing. If you weren’t already aware, there’s a really brilliant Facebook group for 550 and 750 owners. They’re a knowledgeable and helpful crew. I’ll try to link below. Best of luck with your project. Drop us a message or a comment and let us know how you’re getting on. Or perhaps stick it up on the Facebook group 👍 m.facebook.com/profile.php?id=644262668951064&ref=content_filter
Already joined the group the other day after you recommended them in one of your videos. I'm off down to Wolverhampton this weekend to pick it up. I've got plenty time to build it though as I've not ridden since I was 16 (27 now) and so have to take my CBT again and then the test!
There's a channel on here called "For the Bold - Degreez" who builds custom bikes himself and I got hooked watching them and now I want my own garage project. I was always into motorsport as a kid, Suzuki LT50 when I was 4, then a Yamaha PW80 at 5 then moved into go-karts from 7 up til I was 15 and got an aprilia mx50 for the road at 16. The reason for a GT750 was just cos I wanted something classic and fairly simple/similar to the engines I'd seen in karting i.e. carbs and minimal electrics! Plus it was only £500 on eBay which seemed a good deal given the prices some of the older bikes are going for. I'll for sure post it in the FB group when I collect it this weekend. Its a non-runner at the minute but fingers crossed its just an oil change and a battery.
jjbradshaw1 Aye fingers crossed it’s that simple. They’re strong reliable engines, and mechanically fairly basic as you say, so hopefully it won’t take much to get it going again. They’re great for longer distances. Really comfortable in standard form. They seem to make pretty good looking cafe racers if that’s the way you’re going. The only downsides I’ve found is that they’re fairly heavy at slow speeds, which you get used to, and the rear air suspension isn’t great. Lots of people have changed theirs over to springs/dampers which is super easy to do. Oh.. and decent tyres help a lot with the handling, which is obvious really. I’ll keep an eye out for your post on the FB group, and keep in touch 👍
Great trip and nice GT
Cheers fella 👍👍

jjbradshaw1 dude you’ve got a fantastic adventure ahead of you! What’s made you start biking again now? And why a GT750?

You know your skittish front end , have you tried putting a heavier fork oil in?
