- I have joined the Order of Bards, Ovates and Druids and I was often asked: "Why should I join the Obod? Why have you decided to join a druid order" First of all: Because of the amazing community!
Over the last four years I have not only changed, I have also met soo many inspiring people and today i would love to say: Thank you for walking this path with me! Some just walked a few steps by my side, some are still with me. I am gratefull for calling you my second family! /|\

I joined the British Druid Order about a year ago. Before that, I joined the Druid Network. Best thing for me to have done. The seed of Druidism was in me since I was a child. Making this commitment to study was absolutely the right thing. I have studied on my own in many, many ways over my lifetime, but this involves an acknowledged community. It has given me a kind of validation and context I could not have had otherwise. Thank you for your sharing. Though my path may appear full of twists and turns, I am indeed called home. As so many of us are, now.

I am a Norse Pagan/Heathen, yet I decided to look into druidry for learning purposes. Upon reading the introductory material, I was surprised at how much resonated with the ways I already believed and practiced! And with Drudry being a way of spirituality, it complements my Norse/Germanic pagan practices and beliefs rather than requiring me to alter them.
(I have yet to check out Philip Carr-Gomm's books.)

I feel as though I may have outgrown the Wiccan Tradition I came from. Been researching a lot into my Native American (Chickasaw Indian Nation half-breed here) to bring some of my Heritage into my practices. Wish I had others around me that are Pagan but not Wiccan.

I've been looking for the two books from P.Carr-Gomm, but I couldn't find the same titles, even on his website. Are you sure it is the right titles (The wisdom of druids and The wisdom of nature) ?

In response to the controversy of the term 'druid' I'll give my opinion. It is correct to say that modern day druidism has nothing to do with the druids of the ancient celts. The information we have of the celts and their druids is sketchy and not necessarily trustworthy given it largely came to us via Romans and some Greeks.
I don't have a problem with people calling themselves druids provided they are clear that druidism is a neo pagan/new age movement which is not connected to the druids of the past. It cannot possibly claim to be. It is hard enough to be a Gallo-Romano polytheist nevermind an authentic druid.
So by keeping the lines in the sand clear on definition I do not see any harm in modern druidism. Just because it is not for me does not mean it doesn't have its place.

OBOD is not new age. Druidry is a way of life. I allow myself to be, I allow myself to grow, I allow myself to grow! Jehovah credit! Kind and gentle. Love to all.
Yes it is. Unless you're reconstructionist. It's basically wicca with another name.
Neodruidry is new age in that it shares common roots with pretty much all religious and mystical traditions/beliefs, yes. All new age is, is a system stripped of it's religious clothing and wrapped up in western garb. That's it. Go and read the various texts and scriptures from all religions from a mystical interpretation and you will find that they are all the same at their core. An example would be the cauldrons of poesy written in 7CE by an Irish Fili, such a poem is studied within Druidic orders. It describes 3 cauldrons and their functions. Such cauldrons aren't meant to be taken literally. They are 3 energy centres within the body and when properly activated in order, give the practitioner wisdom. Just like the 3 dantian within daoist teachings.
Granted, a lot of the new age movement, while removing the religious clothing, stripped it of it's meaning and diluted it slightly - but if you want truth, you have to go back to the source.

It is SUCH a shame that there is so little documentation (if any??) from the original Druids. Christianity made sure of this.
Actually the Druids didn’t write anything down, as the knowledge was considered sacred and if you couldn’t commit it to memory then the path wasn’t for you. So unfortunately, there wasn’t really anything written down in the first place. 😞
