    He's from Manchuko, Park Chunghee, China and Japan backed trained as Japanese Imperial Army in Manchuko, which means he at first fought with the N. Korea fellow officers, then switched. If you read Paik's memoir as the Youngest 4 star General. My father was born in 1930 in Hungnam province. He's fluent in Japanese with strong appreciation but as General Yu, son of a Korean General with Japanese mother, fought to die for S. Korea ROK. But b4 1950, my mother born in Sunam in 1936 said her native language for first 10 years of her life was Japanese, and from 1945-50 it was Russian, not many realize in N. Korea before the war. Only after her pinan to South before 2nd phase of Chinese attacks did she learn Korean. She said it was hard after Hiragana, Katakana, and Russian. And Korean therefore to many was not native language due to the two occupations not just Japanese ...but Russian too in that brief 5 years... I wish more report and research that period. But Park Chunghee was 5th general down, 3rd under General Paik, and many wondered how he did take over. Many theories there including Chinese and Japanese backed, and also the U.S. It makes sense as it delayed democracy in S. Korea until 1987 and many question still where and how did Park get his directives. BUT.. it took me A LONG WHILE to figure out during this pandemic of sorts, all the books mainly... this one critical Nov. 4th battle after Inchon and Pursuit and Heydey of taking N. Korea back after such a brutal attack, with stars in their eyes, and a taste of America with a false sense of future -- seeing that, a critical and the turning point I felt, the North Western point between MANCHUKO and the ROK about the Future of Korea and the tip of the Asian Continent peninsula. Manchuko officers and with china were massive, aged, backed by Russia, China and Commies vs. ROK officers mere 20 most of them, soldiers still in teens, conscripts along the way -- led by Paik, with Yu in RR in Japan, sandwiced between China/Dprk and the U.S. were DECIMATED. The II Corps GONE. Just Collapsed. and walking straggling barely surviving back, TURKEY shot them to mere nonexistence. That was very critical. Manchuko vs ROK in regards to the FUTURE. And how would those in their teens and officers mere 20 know what to expect of the future. It's just heartbreaking. But they clung onto it, Yu returned and I presume thereafter got supplies, food elsewhere with deals going in Japan which Rhee and others consumed and withheld for the U.S., and reformed. It's a great battle of Kunuri to study.

      @@jeesuekim i dont even know what to say. just because many generals of the DPRK were trained in Manchuria or Japan, does NOT mean that ALL generals trained in Manchuria and Japan automatically fought for the DPRK. DPRK literally never had Manchuria so i dont know what to say once again. He fought for ROK, as a japanese and manchurian trained officer, never switched. if you were trained with a bunch of people who fought for are fighting on one side, does not immediately mean you are on the same side as them.

    • @jeesuekim
      @jeesuekim 2 роки тому

      @@streetmouser6472 No. They all including Kim Jong Il trained for the Japanese against the Chinese. So it was easier for them to switch to Dprk. Only a fewer number fought for Rok. It was knewly formed and chaotic, with all funds gone from corruption. General Yu, part Japanese like my father, took the daunting task of training S. Korea's Rok, conscripts, and others. Dprk as we all know from reading all the war books had a clear advantage at the start. In the battle field many officers switched sides during the war as Communism was so vague. Promises were made to officers with no backing. Just read up if you don't know or at least site your sources.

      @@jeesuekim you do notice Kim jung il was born in 1942, 3 years before ww2 ended and 8 years before the Korean War… how could he have trained for the Japanese against the Chinese… plus North Koreans were allies to China. And Kim il sung was a rebel AGAINST the Japanese as well. And I didn’t say all of the ROK officers were trained in Manchukuo, I’m saying there were definitely some.and yes the DPRK did have the upper hand at the start. Again, just because one trained with people fighting on one side of a conflict (in this case the Korean War between DPRK and ROK) does not mean they were on that side to begin with

    Pres. Park still registers on the good/bad leadership scale. The bad, his continuing authoritarian rule. The good, massive investment in public infrastructure. Large foreign investment bringing modernization & manufacturing. Imports of raw materials, exports of manufactured goods. Education improvements & funding.
    The southern end of Korea, was primarily agrarian, not industrial. Park changed all that. With it, a rise in the standard of living.
    A very mixed legacy.

      Victim mentality? No. Korean people just do not cover history and they accept both triumphs and losses in their own history which is a mindset that most countries should have in addressing their problems. Park's vision came to fruition. Korea now is a great power country and an economic and military power. It also has heavy leverage over Japan, China, and the rest of the world due to their dependence on Korean semiconductors and crucial components.

      There were people who believed Park Geun Hye would be able to restore Korea to her Father's era. Or basically continue her Father's work. Now that turned out to be a huge disappointment for both left and right wing Koreans, generally.
      While Park Chung Hee certainly was a dictator and dealt with the opposition and protesters in inhumane way, we have to acknowledge that thanks to his policy we see South Korea as it is today. Yes the hard working people paid the price, but if it wasn't for the people who worked and Park's policy and his deal with the chaebols, South Korea would be like another southeast Asian country, economically wise. I am not stating the country is perfect now. Here is still social inequality and poverty to be found.

    While President Park was in office Korean mega-corporation companies like Samsung and Pohang foundry(POSCO) and Goldstar(LG) were only able to borrow investment capital from national banks, not federal banks which are the foreign capital lenders. Foreigners were not able to buy lands but only could rent or borrow also stocks of Korean companies were only obtainable by citizens of Korea. During his era, in the US porno became legal after many fights against Christian committees through many trials in Superior court and Europe and Japan adopted similar. They also shared not only legal porno but legal prostitution and problems with drugs also started to plague. President Park was aware of this bad modern social culture, he went into lockdown sort of lockdown to help block out these outside bad social influences. There was a shortage of electricity for industrial use. To help supply more electricity for the economy he had set up a national curfew and also made serving the military mandatory for the males. Unnecessary foreign capitals were limited. To help recognize students from adults specific haircuts and uniforms were made mandatory for public schools. All this had helped Korea move into the modern industrial developed nation today rapidly. But after his assassination, all these laws were reformed. Foreigners were able to buy Korean stocks and lands, unnecessary foreign investment capital was allowed and was lent before Korean public banking capital funds which created leakage to hard-earned foreign $ as interest. Most of all there were no limitations or balance between imports and export. I don't think most people know this including most Koreans. He's just known as the president who took over with military power and prevented new cultural changes with suppression for power control. But it was actually protecting Korea from foreign capitals and bad cultural influences like legalized sex and social drugs. This era was a time for concentration and hard work to get out of poverty and discipline and commitment and dedication were necessary. I think it's understandable that this was forced upon everyone and this was the problem one could argue. I think this president was the best president ever lived of course this is just my opinion based on the value in my preference to my dignified standard.

After his wife’s death, he replaced security officer and put Cha Ji Chul who was corrupted and ambitious guy. He agitated Park’s politics for maybe 5years. Both Cha Ji Chul and Kim Jae Kyu hated esch other. 1979 was the year that ecomony was not good due to the Oil Crisis. One day, there was democratic protest happened and Kim wanted to end protest peacefully but Cha wanted to suppressed them with military and Park agreed with Cha’s plan. Kim tried to persuade Park at 10/26 but Cha angered at him and said “Even Cambodia Killed more than 3million and it does not matter if we kill one or two million of our people. We have to show authoritative in order to stable our nation.” Then Park agreed with him and that caused Kim made the decision to assassinate both of them.
