I live and still ride in New Zealand these last 35 years with some of the best scariest biking roads in the world. I bought my Hymalayan after following your posts over 2 years ago. What a great wee bike especially after having an R1200Rt for 12 years. Before emigrating we lived in Barrow in Furness for 11 years. Hardnot and Wrynose were our favorite weekend rides on a lovely day with my trusting wife Janet on the back. A touch of nostalgia watching this. I was back home visiting 6 years ago and I did the same journey back by car with my friend Steve Goacher after sailing on Windemere mid summers weekend. The weather was atrocious and I'll never forget the experience of full fog, heavy rain, no view and a nice lake district pub meal on the way back to Barrow.
Glad this video brought back some fond memories of home for you Donald. Sounds like you enjoyed your return visit 6 years ago. The lake district is a 300 mile drive to get there from here
Thankyou very much for this.I am so grateful that my journey through life has included a couple of jaunts over Hardknott,85 & 94.Don't suppose I'll do it again so this is much appreciated.I was 'right back there'.
hi Sandy, it was nice to meet up with you and Dickie, you are both very nice gents and it was a pleasure to have a ride out with you, I really enjoyed it 👍😁 very nice footage too 😀
As a motorcyclist, radio ham who likes CW and a (would be) born again camper I just love your videos. Great footage and production with no airs and graces. Wonderful!
Magic, fantastic photography and your choice of incidental music has made your film and all the others you make. Many thanks for your time to make and share your adventures. Rgds, Peter.
I haven't seen any footage of this road that truly shows it for the beast it actually is. Unable to motorcycle due to health issues I haven't lost my love of adventure so completed this last year in my old VW diesel. Approached from the other side I was in awe at Wrynose Pass and its sheer beauty then I hit Hardknott Pass and those 1:3 blind hairpins really got he adrenaline flowing. Dropping down the other side affords you magnificent views of the fort and amazing views beyond. Apparently at its highest point ( 1289ft ) you are taller than the Shard Tower ( 1016ft ) Biggest laugh of the day was when I was confronted by a concerned tourist complaining that sandals weren't appropriate footwear for the conditions. When I said that the guys that built the road only wore sandals and leather skirts his wife couldn't stop laughing and he failed to find any retort. Great video guys , thanks for sharing 👍
I've done the passes myself a couple of times and filmed it for UA-cam but never stopped to see the fort, its much bigger than I thought so thanks Sandy for showing it to me in your splendid video.
What I love most about the Wiltshire man is after watching you just wanna get there out, I saw one of his push bike videos and I went out and bought a brand new bike the next day! Loving it, thanks man
The Hardnott and Wrynose passes have to be one of my favourite drives in the entire UK, done them on push bike motorbike and car many times over the years. A real drivers road :) Great drone footage of the fort too.
Thanks for yet again another great up load really look forward to you videos and can’t believe some many viewers don’t say thank you by means of a thumbs up or a kind word of thanks what are people like 🙄 till the next 👍
I really enjoy riding along virtually on your rides. The Hardknott Pass is a mythic sort of ride. Perhaps someday if I cross the pond, I can rent a motorcycle and tour through some of these areas. Thanks for sharing it.
Another great video Sandy, it was good that you met up with John, Dave and Wosa. The riding looked like so much fun with quiet roads. Trusty Chug did its job as always and Dickies bike looked goo too. Thanks for sharing ATB Big Dave Scotland
Hello Sandy, another nice video. When I lived in England I went up all the Lakes passes on a motor bike and a car over the years. I have been back to UK took the kids up the same passes that rode back in the 60s. They ear Princess Anne was born, we went to the Lakes from London , my uncle had a 1933 Marsden Sunbeam 500 single with a Swallow sidecar, 4 of us on it with me in the dickey seat, and camping gear,14 days and we got 9 days of rain. I remember as I was about 7-8 back then being in the clouds. We went up Kirkstone on that Sunbean, no problem. It probably had less HP than your Hymalan.
Wow that was an adventure George, I just googled that bike and it has 3.5 HP, not sure how that compares to BHP though but for sure it has less power than the Himalayan
thanks Sandy, ive aways admired the use of native stone in buildings and various structures. It blends so well with the surrounding countryside. the miles of stone fence are picturesque, one might think they were there all along, at creation.
Great video , I watch your videos but never commented until now. I leave this because your video reminded me of when I rode hardknot pass back in 1978 on rd400,and again 1980 on a newish rd400e on my 21st birthday, left home crack of dawn , in jeans ,doc Martin's, leather jacket, helmet ,gloves. Std riding kit back then.lol. Currently a blade rider . Take care.. keep up these brilliant videos.. And the knife making..
great little vid sandy i lived in the lakes for 2 years and was always travelling over hardknott pass on my motorbike i had a little zxr400 a real screamer so that was fun anyway thoroughly enjoyed you and dickie so keep doing your thing sandy thank you
Wonderful! I must try to get up to the Lakes for a couple of days and ride those passes. Thanks for the tip about the camp site, I had no idea the NT had sites, well worth knowing.
I had never heard of the Hardknot pass before this morning. (I don't live in the UK.) It looks like a good challenge. I have a TRK 502 in my collection and was pleased to see the bike in the video went up there with ease. I was torn between the TRK and the Himalayan when buying a bike last year. (The TRK I eventually settled on, was s/h and a grand less than the only Himalayan in the shop at the time. ) The Himalayan you are riding was also perfectly suited to the task and I'm very impressed with it's low down pulling power. Good camera work and very enjoyable to watch. Thanks for posting.
Lovely stuff! So narrow that pass. I think that is probably where much of the challenge comes from, because it probably isn’t the steepest or with the most bends… but the scenery and sense of remoteness is pretty unbeatable in England. Thanks! Actually, I think the pothole the size of an Olympic swimming pool at 11.21 might just tip the balance!
Good on you. Thanks for all you're content . Much appreciated really enjoy em all. You'll have to make your way to Ireland some time for a spin. Keep em coming 👍
You always get a Thumbs-Up from me Sandy! I have great memories of that area, but always from ground level. The drone opens up some fantastic views. Noel
Hi sandy and well done chugg. Challenge for both rider and bike Fantastic scenery great drone footage Been with. John and woza a while now 2 nice gentleman. Thanks for taking us with you Sandy ride safe my friend. Old dave.
fantastic video which shows the steepness of the road very well . drone footage of the roman fort really surprised me = as i was not expecting to see much other than a couple of stones ,,;; what a picture ;;;
Hi sandy I enjoyed the video I have been up hardknott pass alot on the bike and in the car it's a great ride I joy it every time I go over thank for the great channel All the best ride safe gavin
Love your channel Mr W, can’t understand why you don’t have 100k subs! Love that area too, used to wildcamp behind the woolpack at the bottom of hardknot. Thanks for the great video + bringing back some great memories 👍
Thats a beautiful place Sandy. The two wheels community is an excellent group of people. Hard to find another group anywhere that is as friendly or as happy.
Great vid Sandy, I'd say Hardknott is the most challenging UK pass and I've done a few. Actually done Hardknott in all weathers and also two up with the wife on the back.
I can still smell the clutch burning, in the old jaloppy, when we went up the Hardnott, 🤣🤣🤣. Great drone footage of that Roman Fort, you'd never know it was there, if you didn't have a drone,, ha ha,, 😀
Well done again!! Excellent video and I see you've upped your thumbs up count to about 1 in 3 so far. The UA-cam algorithm is beyond understanding, the very likes and comments it so vehemently relies on for channel promotion, seems to work in reverse sometimes. It has its favourites, for whom somehow the impossible is possible, more likes than views? I've noticed comments disappear from my channel inexplicably, along with mine on others channels? Sub numbers too have an inexplicable variable. We all appreciate what you do, even if UA-cam doesn't 👍
Cracking bit of road that sandy 😳😳😳 I always leave you a comment and a thumbs up not because of the algorithms but because your vids are always top notch 👍♥️👍😉
Cracking part of the country sandy. Another fantastic ride out! 323 miles from my front door. Might have to break out the zeppelin & see if I can do it one day after visiting my in the Wirral on the way.
Lovely video, I'm pretty sure that is my next go to place! The Easter weekend I've been to Cheddar Gorge area on my Himalayan and that was a blast! Keep the videos coming!
Great video Sandy. I've ridden Hardknott and Wrynose on a number of bikes - BMW C1, Honda NTV and last time on my Yamaha T80 Townmate. Lovely to reminisce by watching your video.
Well young man you are in my part of the world. When I was learning to ride a motorcycle, I was on a Cumbria police driving course. On the course the instructor made us stop on the steepest bend coming up from Wasdale head. We had to kill the engine then restart the bike. The bike in question that I riding was a BSA 250 FleetStar similar to the BSA C15, I think the difference was Fleet Star had an alloy cylinder and C15 a cast iron cylinder the two other coppers were on C15s. We all managed to kick start the bikes and carried on. A while later on the advanced course we were on Triumph 650cc Saints which we sailed over Hard knot. With the demise of the little BSA’s the force went on to use Yamaha RD 250’s they couldn’t manage the stop start onHard Knot so that part of the test was stopped.
Thanks for this video! I'm doing the Hardknot pass next week, on my Kawasaki Z1000 SX as part of a group tour. Really looking forward to it. You did a great job with the photography as usual.
Well that was a great day Sandy it was lovely to meet you and Dickie and didn't those Himalayans sound well going up those hills. The Drone footage was fantastic.
Cheers John It was fantastic both to meet you, Dave and Wozza and also to share the Hardknott pass with you guys, the Himalayans were in their element:)
Thanks Sandy for the spectacular drone shot at the end of this video. Always enjoy your rides in the country. Peaceful, minimal traffic and great scenery, even though you had some tricky hills and turns today. I also like to see the Himalayan as I’ve been a fan since I first saw one in 2019. A real workhorse by all accounts. Cheers and stay safe. Dan ✌️🏍🇨🇦
Loved this video Sandy as normal all your videos are really interesting 👍 interesting to know abit about how youtube works but I hope you still keep doing them for us 👍
Wow what a very pleasant ride and a tarmac surface roo .most of the non highway roads here in NZ are gravel roads and some are very high pass roads (trails) are kas high as 6000 feet . Compared to most of our pass trails. Your Hardknott is a c ruise. But never the less the Hardknott is a beautiful drive.
Nice part of the country and some great scenery must have been steep, even the gopro didn't flatten the hills out, the himalayan's doing what they do best take care and ride safe 👍
@@WiltshireMan Thanks, I am riding by the book and no lugging. It’s a pleasure to ride, even keeping the revs below 3000rpm. 300 miles reached today and first service booked for next Tuesday. Will have the first 1200 miles done by mid May and I’m sure I will enjoy every one. I’m off to Skye third week in May.
Excellent vid thanks, myself and 2 friends are doing this run next month, wkd based up in the YHA hostel The Sill at once brewed, really looking forward to it, 👍👍
Love your videos Sandy. I'm from Calgary, Alberta, Canada where the landscape is very different from England. Got lots of English friends who always talks fondly of home. Good to be able to see some of land due to your videos. Some day I got to make it to the UK. So many places to see and explore in this wonderful world of ours. Normally don't leave a comment but thought I'd do so to support this channel.

What a fantastic presentation .....The Himmy was just like a Mountain Goat chugging up Hardknott . Thanks for sharing ......:)
Thankyou very much for this.I am so grateful that my journey through life has included a couple of jaunts over Hardknott,85 & 94.Don't suppose I'll do it again so this is much appreciated.I was 'right back there'.

Stunning scenery. Another great video. Well done Sandy and thank you for my Saturday evening entertainment.

Haa yes the Romans would most probably have worn sandals. Actually you can today buy sandals that are designed for long distance hiking
I've done the passes myself a couple of times and filmed it for UA-cam but never stopped to see the fort, its much bigger than I thought so thanks Sandy for showing it to me in your splendid video.
I was surprised too John when I saw the drone footage
What I love most about the Wiltshire man is after watching you just wanna get there out, I saw one of his push bike videos and I went out and bought a brand new bike the next day! Loving it, thanks man
Was out on my pushbike yesterday
Stunning 🙂. Lake District is out standing place to ride round.
Brilliant, Sandy. Thank you.What a place! 🙂👍😘🏍️
Looks great - love the Lake District and worked just out of Ambleside in 1984 in Great Langdale - Mark form NZ
That looks like a great road to ride on and fantastic views. Really enjoyed it.
The Hardnott and Wrynose passes have to be one of my favourite drives in the entire UK, done them on push bike motorbike and car many times over the years. A real drivers road :)

Thanks for taking us along bro it was very enjoyable. That Roman enclosure is interesting and quite a bit greener than it's surroundings. Safe travels
Beautiful part of the country. Have only made it to the lakes on a handful of occasions racing at Rowrah. Must get back there soon.
Looking forward to the next video! Reminds me of when I stayed up there last summer. 👍
Love the videos, its like touring the country side of England, love the information about the sites.
Just watched yours and John's video. I'll need to go and do the passes myself on my Himalayan. Great fun to watch. Thanks guys.
Hi Mark, your Himalayan will eat the pass for breakfast lunch and dinner, it's just the right tool for the job
Fantastic footage of the Roman Fort…thanks so much for your wonderful videos! 👍👍👍👍
Thanks Andy
nice little vid of onr of my favourite parts of the U.K. ,thanks.
Another great video Sandy, it was good that you met up with John, Dave and Wosa. The riding looked like so much fun with quiet roads. Trusty Chug did its job as always and Dickies bike looked goo too. Thanks for sharing ATB Big Dave Scotland
I love this. It's like a Monty Python skit. A paved , gentle inclining road. What a challenging adventure! Black Bear pass has nothing on this. Lol
Great ride Sandy. Lucky you got mates to ride with. Most enjoyable.
Hello Sandy, another nice video. When I lived in England I went up all the Lakes passes on a motor bike and a car over the years. Been living overseas too long, I forget what a beautiful country I come from.
Himalayan seems well up to it.
Enjoy...
I love the honest simplicity of your channel
Please don't change
Thanks Steve
thanks Sandy, ive aways admired the use of native stone in buildings and various structures. It blends so well with the surrounding countryside. the miles of stone fence are picturesque, one might think they were there all along, at creation.
It must have took an enourmous amount of effort Bob to build those walls. It's all they had to work with back then
One day at a time , I suppose…
Sandy - Thanks for sharing your travels with us. It's a perfect opportunity to armchair travel to your part of the world. Safe travels.
Spectacular from start to finish. As ever, my hat's off to you sir.
Real world riding. Love it. Enjoyed the video very much! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Looks like a great trip Sandy, thank you for sharing your adventure.

Another great video very dramatic you take some good still photos I enjoy all you videos and look forward to them. Regards Brian.

Thanks Jim:)
Great vid Sandy, I'd say Hardknott is the most challenging UK pass and I've done a few. Actually done Hardknott in all weathers and also two up with the wife on the back.
Great video Sandy. I once did the passes in an Austin maxi and the handbrake gave up !!!! 😂😂😂 bloody terrifying
Looks an amazing place, thanks for sharing!👍
I can still smell the clutch burning, in the old jaloppy, when we went up the Hardnott, 🤣🤣🤣. Great drone footage of that Roman Fort, you'd never know it was there, if you didn't have a drone,, ha ha,, 😀
Well done again!! Excellent video and I see you've upped your thumbs up count to about 1 in 3 so far. Haa this is quite true Michael. It is a puzzle!
Great video Sandy
Lake District looking dramatic!
Cracking bit of road that sandy 😳😳😳 I always leave you a comment and a thumbs up not because of the algorithms but because your vids are always top notch 👍♥️👍😉
Love the videos Sandy. Very informative, love the scenic views.
Wonderful stuff. Great pass. So narrow and lots of steep upgrades and descents.looks great on a bike.
Cracking part of the country sandy. Another fantastic ride out! 323 miles from my front door. Might have to break out the zeppelin & see if I can do it one day after visiting my in the Wirral on the way.
I’ve done it a few times know but I still look forward to going back and having another go , love your videos
Thanks Paul
Great views, I think the Himalayan found it's roots. If Great Britain has tourist ambassadors I think you should be appointed one.
Amazing scenery… beautiful. Captures the atmosphere and sounds of the British Isles out of the warm months so perfectly.
Lovely video, I'm pretty sure that is my next go to place! The Easter weekend I've been to Cheddar Gorge area on my Himalayan and that was a blast! Keep the videos coming!
Up to the standard we've grown to expect Sandy. Thanks for another great and informative offering.
Thanks Malcolm I always try and make the videos "watchable"
Great video Sandy. I've ridden Hardknott and Wrynose on a number of bikes - BMW C1, Honda NTV and last time on my Yamaha T80 Townmate. Lovely to reminisce by watching your video.
what a stunning place, wouldn't like to be up there when the weather's bad though. I'd love to see that hill Fort what amazing history Sandy
I can be very exposed Phill but a great ride
Absolutely right, I always forget to hit the like button, I will try harder. Love your vids, keep up the great work.
Haa, Thanks:)
Another great video Sandy, thanks for sharing 👍
Fantastic ride, wonderful video. Bought myself a Himalayan recently having been inspired by UA-camrs like yourself. Love it.
Welldone Jaap, the Himi isn't fast but it is good for riding these sorts of roads
Nice one mate, what scenery, fantastic and the ride through the passes look great.
Great video Sandy. Wasdale / Wast Water is my fave place, and the passes are a brilliant ride or drive. Yet to do them on the Himi, but on the list!
Nice one Sandy, I must find time to do these two passes. Great drone footage.
Well young man you are in my part of the world. When I was learning to ride a motorcycle, I was on a Cumbria police driving course.
Beautiful passes. Thank you for sharing.

Hi Daniel yes I would say the Himalayan is a workhorse of a bike
Great video, it seems perfect Himalayan territory
Loved this video Sandy as normal all your videos are really interesting 👍 interesting to know abit about how youtube works but I hope you still keep doing them for us 👍
Another great video. The drone footage was great. I'm up there in May!
Beautiful scenery!
Wow what a very pleasant ride and a tarmac surface roo .most of the non highway roads here in NZ are gravel roads and some are very high pass roads (trails) are kas high as 6000 feet . Cracking video Sandy, already subscribed to both yours and John's channels. Looking forward to the review of Dickie's Benneli.👍
Chug loves those passes Sandy.
Love the videos Sandy, you are a king amongst men!
King Sandy. Has a nice ring to it:)
Nice part of the country and some great scenery must have been steep, even the gopro didn't flatten the hills out, the himalayan's doing what they do best take care and ride safe 👍
This is Himalayan territory Phil:)
areally cracking video sandy nice work and thank you
Currently running my Himalayan in, but as soon as it’s done I will be back to the Hardknott and Wrynose passes for a bit of fun.
Run the bike in gently and don't lug the engine and hopefully you'll get many years of service. My Himi now almost on 12000 miles
Excellent vid thanks, myself and 2 friends are doing this run next month, wkd based up in the YHA hostel The Sill at once brewed, really looking forward to it, 👍👍
Lovely Sandy!
Have to pity the guy on the Bicycle on the way up!!!
TTFN.
