The city has been relatively safe when compared to the Russian attacks in Kharkiv, but possible urban warfare looms over like a nightmare across the country.
An instructor Taras Maselko, 36, has been teaching the residents of Lviv how to throw a Molotov cocktail to face off Russian tanks.
The Molotov cocktail is a common name for the simplest improvised explosive devices based on a flammable mixture.
Since such a bomb is easy to make, it is often used during guerrilla and street wars.

Molotov cocktails got their name during the Finnish Winter War, and were used to great success against e.g. Soviet tanks. It's a sarcastic name derived from the then-foreign minister Molotov, who in propaganda broadcasts claimed to the world that the bombs that were being dropped over Finland were actually food parcels being distributed to their starving neighbours for humanitarian purposes.
Well then! So in response, the Finnish soldiers decided that one, of course, needs a nice drink that pairs well with Molotov's bread baskets!

When it get's to the point where they've run out of weapons, they'd be netter off capitulating and taking the battle to politics along with an underground resistance. There is a video from a few days back of a night battle where the Ukrainians showered a couple of Russian BTRs with Molotov cocktails forcing them to retreat. Not sure how much damage they did, but it stopped the attack.
@@richardjohnson8114 I think I may have seen that. I remember it being a lot more affective but clearly these were not the ones throwing fortunately. I'm not sure the mix is right either but I'm no expert
I saw a video where they hit a multi wheeled armoured vehicle with a few of these and the thing was an inferno. Not sure what was different but they were definitely burning furiously and it stopped immediately and was forced to retreat.
If you managed to get some liquid down a drivers hatch or any other openings it would be a big problem for them. I think because they are practicing, they didn’t fill them up with the normal amounts of liquid because it would of made far too much fire.

Honestly this may seem like a waste of time and rescaurces and energy. But honestly, if you dont have military experience, its good to go through the full process of something like this. You’ll learn quite a lot and when you are stressed and in the middle of action these “trainings” help a ton.
Not at all. If the Russians have open hatches in their tanks and armored personnel carriers, a Molotov will burn them alive.
Against Russian supply trucks with no armor and often only a canvas cover overtop many munitions, a Molotov will turn that supply truck into a series of explosions

Cocktails Molotov should use at street corners where Russian tanks are not aware of the directions to go, or user from the top floors to drop down into the streets, they are useful.
I've been saying that from day one for both of those. I really hope they'll be doing that more when more of the tanks try to get into the cities.

In fact, those Molotov cocktails are hard to use to attack the tanks, but they can be used to build up fire barriers by burning the tires and sundries to block the access for defensive purposes.

Either down a hatch or in the engine compartment would be the best places.
They add polystyrene to the mixture, this will help it stick. Imagine the psychological effect it would have on a tank crew when their tank is ablaze.

Some of the IFV’s have tires, set the tires on fire the tires will burn off. The vehicle will stop or they will damage the vehicle more. Also go for the engine exhaust and engine compartment. Set engine hoses on fire and the engine will die.
How to you propose they get to the engine bay to set those hoses on fire with the vehicle running and Russians inside shooting? And throwing a molotov cocktail at there exhaust will do nothing.

It's possible to backwards throw a 5-10 liter molotov cocktail with two hands. But it has to be made in a certain way and it has to be thrown in the right manner.

They need more of the Anti tank missiles same as what Britain has handed over to them twice already ..but need aid from other countries also in Europe etc ..You shall get Anti air missiles soon from Britain when needed .
Yeah I really hope the Anti-air missile will be getting from here to Ukraine soon. We promised they would be getting some so they can set up a bit of their own no-fly zone and we need them to get over there NOW. What we also need to do is do what the Yanks have been doing and actually also show the anti-tank missiles like the NLAW being made to show they're on their way.

Anti air missiles can help to close the sky up to a certain pts. Now West still send as much missiles as possible it still can access kiev or other areas that can attack the rears or supply of RU attacking troops that encircling Kiev.
Britain is planned now to send anti-air missiles to Ukraine as it was announced a few days ago. I really hope they will get there soon. Ukraine really needs an Israel style Iron Dome system.

@@charleynilsson5543 Yes as this is what you see on your typical news websites, If you had any inkling or insider view you would see that Russian soldiers are making attempts to minimalize Civillian casualties, as is such in guerrilla and urban warfare using this to your advantage is very beneficial.
If you think that the Ukranian military and resistance are not using the advantage of Rules of engagement you would be sorely mistaken, this is also why Russian soldiers dont know who to shoot, long story short there will be a fuckload of civillian deaths but if you think the Russians are just indiscriminately killing civillians then you would be buying into cold war propaganda like an absolute muppet.
