There’s a good reason the Andy Griffith Show has never been off the air ever since the very first episode. That’s nearly 60 years. I’ve been watching the entire time. Seen every episode 100 times…but they never get old.
The whole cast of the AGS is so humble yet so talented - unlike many of today’s stars who lack the humility and think far more of their talent than is warranted.

Since I moved in with my parents to take care of them mom and I watch the Andy Griffith show every day together. We love this show. We love Otis and when he rides the cow as a horse we laugh so much. Our most favorite show was the one with the loaded goat. 🤣
So many from that show are dead and gone now. Still beloved, though. Howard McNear/Floyd the barber [1969], Frances Bavier/Aunt Bee [1989], Hal Smith/Otis [1994], Don Knotts/Barney [2006], George Lindsey/Goober [2012], and now Andy. Betty Lynn/Thelma is still alive as is Elinor Donahue. Such wonderful characters on a great show!! Thank you for uploading this.
I wish they would release copies of these shows for sale. My son and I were interviewed by Ralph back in the 80s when he was 6 years old. It was so sad when Nashville Now left the air. I was listening to Ralph on WSM when he did his last all-night radio show. There will never be another Ralph Emory. When you see Ralph Emory you know you are going to be entertained.
You can tell he's an actor that gets tired of being called by his stage name all of the time. He's Don! 🙂 Plus, Thelma Lou doesn't look like she's aged a bit!
Sarah Gregory If you ever visit here in Morgantown, West Virginia there is a Don Knotts statue on High Street in our downtown area. It’s a wonderful piece of art created by WV native Jamie Lester. This is Mr Knotts hometown, there’s also a Don Knotts Boulevard. RIP MR KNOTTS

Thank you for posting this. Delightful to see them all. The episode where Thelma Lou shows up at the party with a husband was sad but appropriate. Barney left town and didn't marry her after being her boyfriend for so long. He dropped the ball! So she went ahead and got herself a husband.

I was 6 when this came out, and now I’m 35 😩 I grew up watching Andy Griffith and loved Otis, Rafe, the Dillard’s, and everybody. It’s crazy seeing how old they’d gotten, I think we all forget about the age when we watch these things 💔
At 36 yo I came into AGS late.. Tv shows today have no idea how to make a wholesome show without shoving derogatory, racial or political agendas. This show was so clean and funny. These folks make me wish I lived back then. I'm thankful I have them to watch anytime I want. Rest in peace to the cast who are no longer with us.
Great actors and I'll bet they were great in their real lives. I belong to a Civil War history group. After meetings some of us go to the nearby pub. We call ourselves the Otis Campbell Society complete with a photo of Otis on the table. Calm down. We aren't drunks. Almost everybody even young people get the humor.
The actor who played Otis before Andy G. worked for a local L.A. TVstudio doing a kids cartoon show. Between cartoons he promoted products, stuff kids would nag Mom and Dad to buy for them. His main sponsor was a new restaurant chain International house of pancakes ( IHOP ). He was always telling kids to tell their parents to go to the place with the bright blue roof. He did it with a funny cartoon type voice. Many of the IHOP places closed, and open with a new name and business. But to this day 60 years later I can't drive by one of the places without thinking of his voice and the place with the bright blue roof.
@Mike Davis Mike, I strongly disagree with your take on "Ellie"... I thought she was great and wish she and Andy had stayed together. But, the show's success proves me wrong, I guess....lol
Hal Smith was also the voice of the dog "Goliath" on the _Davy and Goliath_ claymation children's show that ran for decades; his most popular phrase there was a very deep baritone "Oh, Davey."
Hal Smith did a great job as Otis Campbell. But I remember him more fondly as JOHN AVERY WHITAKER on ADVENTURES IN ODYSSEY. Great radio drama which was entertaining for both kids and their parents. He was a staple on car trips. The kids would ask, "how much longer, Mom?" I'd answer, "Oh, 3 more Adventure episodes."
@@jimbaldridge9392 I grew up watching the show and to see the characters live was so special. I was able to meet them and talk to them. It was incredible. I have a picture of me and Otis - he was so nice! Loved every minute of that weekend.
Ralph used to have a storage unit at s place I worked.. he always introduced himself when he came in.. "Hello.. I'm Ralph Emery". Anyway.. Andy Griffith was the best show that ever came on television.
Andy's girlfriends included Eleanor Donahue, Julie Adams, Joanna Moore, and Anita Coursault. Joanna Moore did a lot of drama guest starring roles in western and police dramas. She was once married to Ryan O'Neal and was Tatum O'Neal's mother.
Look how long the show has been in syndication!! This was a legendary show, and STILL lives in the hearts of us all!! It is still better than any show that has been on since, outside of the Carol Burnett show!
Notice at :38 how Don Knotts becomes Barney Fife for one second. Andy Griffith once said that Don was not Barney but he could become Barney at the drop of a hat. Don Knotts was one of the most brilliant comic actors to ever grace the tube.
I think it’s great that Betty Lynn set the record straight and at least called out Aaron Ruben in the writers room over how awful she felt it was that they had Thelma Lou abandon Barney and marry someone else, and in the long run she was right because as she said most of the fans she spoke to over the years told her how much they hated that decision (my parents definitely hated it). But hey, at least she said something at the time. And that’s no slight against Aaron Ruben, he was one of the all time greatest classic TV writers but I also think that this interview and the guests on this segment also reflect how badly he and the writing staff dropped the ball after Don Knotts left. Obviously the show could never be the same without Barney but geez, the best they could do was come up with terrible, dull, unfunny characters like Warren the deputy, Howard Sprague the loser stuffed-shirt momma’s boy and Emmit the fix it guy?? Yeesh. There’s a reason you don’t see those actors featured on most of these retrospectives. Plus the plots overall were more boring, you had Andy’s real life anger issues bleeding into his character when Andy became more cranky and also occasionally rude to Aunt Bee, just bleh. The color episodes are just a downer overall. I also want to say in my opinion George Lindsay would have made a great replacement deputy after Barney left. Also, hearing Hal Smith do his famous Winnie the Pooh voices was fantastic. Great video all around!
Barney was great, but it wasn't just Barney leaving the show that ruined it, the writing, the message, a lot changed once they went to color in season 6. There were several funny shows in black and white where Barney didn't appear that were hilarious; Aunt Bee's Brief Romance, The Family Visit, and Gomer The House Guest, just to name a few.
Love the Mayberry cast, with Barney being my very favorite. I love ❤️ Barney.. he was the show. Great TV shows back then in the good old days.. no cussin', no sex, etc. .. best of times.
My favorite character is Earnest T. Bass. The bricks he'd throw through windows was THE FUNNIEST THING TO A LITTLE GIRL WHO WAS NOT IN THAT MUCH TROUBLE... BUT MAYBE CLOSE IN MY OWN WAY.
I see quite a few of you younger than 50's commenting. Ralph Emery the host is well known and respected in Nashville. He's old school with respect and honest questioning. Not much in the laugh department as he would rather let the guests take that lead. This is from the show Nashville Now.
Ride To Live Live To Ride I agree...he is old school. I respect him because, he made his 16 year old son get a job to pay for a motorbike that he wrecked. His son was a great kid and was a good worker. That was back in 1984-85 ish.
Everyone should be glad that this interview took place. Ralph is not the star here, but without him you'd never be able to enjoy all these wonderful people who you invited into your homes to entertain you. Go Ralph!
🌿@PostTrib. Gosh, I would have loved for him to ask more questions. All 5 guests were chomping at the bit but left sitting. Rafe Hollister might have sung a little song! 🎵 He had a beautiful voice that was featured in one show! And if Otis hadn't offered up the voice of the owl, we wouldn't have been delighted by that little piece. There was so much more they all came to offer. And by the way, as much as we loved Don Knotts, I'll bet I'm not the only one who was glad Thelma came to the school reunion with her handsome husband. Barney didn't sob for long, but he needed to reap some karma for not writing her, taking her for granted, etc. Don Knotts probably thought Barney deserved a little grief as well! 😊 They wrote in a wedding for those 2 later anyway, I've heard, though I haven't seen that episode yet.
So what are you folks complaining about a lousy interview? This is great!! Long time ago, this film clip, eh? Yes, I am older than age 50 and a country hick, too!!
Ralph interviewed me and my son many years ago out of the audience on his show. Ralph is a great interviewer and a great human being. He's probably interviewed more country music singers than anyone alive. He had an all-night radio show on WSM for many years. Ralph is one of a kind.
The biggest problem I had was him saying that " Thelma Lou" was Andys first romantic relationship on the show. maybe I missed that but i watch.. sometimes I even binge watch it depending on my mood. Anyhow. Helen Crump was not Andys 1st romantic relationship but the strongest and longest lasting. Thelma was Braneys girl. again I could be wrong and just missed the episode were they were courting?
You didn't miss an episode, Thelma Lou was never involved with Andy. Andy's first love interest was Miss. Ellie, then Mary, then Peggy, and then Helen. He dated, briefly, Thelma Lou's cousin, the skeet shoot expert. I liked Miss Ellie and Peggy the best.
JustinArmstrong0089 Thelma Lou never dated Andy. There was an episode in season one that should have been called "Games People Play" where Thelma Lou was trying to make Barney jealous by coming on to Andy and Barney was doing the same thing with Andy's girl Ellie Walker. When Andy figured out what was going on he made a plan to actually go along with the game which scared Barney and Thelma Lou right back to each other.. Very funny episode.... But.... I think that was the only time that Andy breifly made it look like he was going for Thelma Lou.
Cool seeing this! I have heard they are thinking about making a new Back to the Future movie. I wish they would center it around the characters on the Andy Griffith Show having Thelma Lou and Barney getting married with excellent look-alike actors. I always felt he was stupid for not going so!
thanks for shuch a great show i still enjoy it ...all awsome actors....thelma lou u was allways the hottest girl in mayberry.....love u guys...................
Best half hour of weekly TV that has ever been produced, bar none. To this day ... as I'm flipping channels and can't find something WHOLESOME to make me laugh ... I click to re-runs of the broadcast. If hollyweird was smart, they would come up with a similar type of weekly broadcast, though I doubt that ANY could reach the level that A.G. Show reached. All the characters were awesome, but Barney was my favorite.
I still watch andy Griffith every day .I love it .❤😊

And if Otis hadn't offered up the voice of the owl, we wouldn't have been delighted by that little piece. There was so much more they all came to offer.
And by the way, as much as we loved Don Knotts, I'll bet I'm not the only one who was glad Thelma came to the school reunion with her handsome husband. Barney didn't sob for long, but he needed to reap some karma for not writing her, taking her for granted, etc. Don Knotts probably thought Barney deserved a little grief as well! 😊
They wrote in a wedding for those 2 later anyway, I've heard, though I haven't seen that episode yet.
I didn't find him a good interviewer here at all. He needed to do a little research prior to the show, he got some things wrong.
@diananutt1517 they got married in the Return to Mayberry movie
Al Smith, Otis here, also did most of the villian voices and sometime good guys on the old Clutch Cargo cartoon show.
So what are you folks complaining about a lousy interview? This is great!! Long time ago, this film clip, eh? Yes, I am older than age 50 and a country hick, too!!
DieHard10901 I hear you. West Virginia Hillbilly, myself and you?
Ralph interviewed me and my son many years ago out of the audience on his show. Ralph is a great interviewer and a great human being. He's probably interviewed more country music singers than anyone alive. He had an all-night radio show on WSM for many years. Ralph is one of a kind.
Non scripted interview...this is fantastic
There was no flow or energy to this interview but great to see them.
Rock N they r in there 80s
Agree. It really was the host. He reeks with arrogance and is just flat.

Thelma Lou never dated Andy.
Love these people and show ❤️
Mi programa favorito nunca me cansare de verla ! ❤️👍
Cool seeing this! I have heard they are thinking about making a new Back to the Future movie. I wish they would center it around the characters on the Andy Griffith Show having Thelma Lou and Barney getting married with excellent look-alike actors. I always felt he was stupid for not going so!
Thank you.i really like this.
thanks for shuch a great show i still enjoy it ...all awsome actors....thelma lou u was allways the hottest girl in mayberry.....love u guys...................
Now Thelma' s the hottest babe in the nursing home @ 93 years old.
'Andy' never dated 'Thelma Lou' - mark 8:05.
Hal Smith was one of the best voice actors of all time!
Wasn't he Barney Rubble?
I remember ralph Emery with shotgun red. The AGS was iconic and still is. Watch it every day.
