  • Hello, and welcome to my channel where I share my passion for creating beautiful things with everyone who wants to learn how to make pretty ornaments, decorations, and gifts using a crochet hook and some thread. Please consider subscribing to the channel and pushing the "notifications" button if you want to be informed of all the new projects.
In this video I show how to crochet a pretty, relatively small (about 6 inches in diameter) basket that can be used for Easter with eggs and chickens in it, like a wedding basket filled with petals or flowers, or just filled with fruit or candy. The basket can be easily enlarged or made smaller by changing the size of its bottom or the size of the thread or the hook used. I use cotton thread size 10, and my crochet hook is 1.95 mm.

I guess it depends on how tightly you crochet. You might want to remove one or more sections of the bottom. Also, starching helps fix imperfections if there are any.

I love this basket. But I am having one area where I need your advice. I followed your instructions to a tee, but I did use Aunt Lydia's 3 instead of 10 and my needle a 2.75. My stitches are uniform. But, my sides do not stand up. So, I am ready to begin the starch process, however my sides wont stand up on their own correctly. What can I do to rectify this? Please advise! I am subscribed to your channel and have made nearly all of your snowflakes! I await your reply! Thank you, and thank your for sharing your skills and knowledge with me!

Thank you! As to the basket, I would try to starch it the way it is - in my experience, starching can rectify lots of issues. Find the shape you want your basket to have and stretch the starched basket over it. Continue stretching as it is drying. If the basket is still not hard enough when it’s dry, apply more starch and dry again.
      Hope it helps. 🙂

Probably you crochet more tightly or loosely than me. But do not worry, it will flatten when you starch it. It will take the shape of what you will be starching it on.

I am making this now. Used a bigger size hook and may have to add a few more rows to the side rounds. It would have to end on an even row. My question is can the handle be made separately to stiffen and sew on, and if so, what would the chain number and number of foundation stitches? What kind of foundation stitches, and what multiples would I use? Thanks!

The handle can be made separately, but I would not recommend it - it is hard to sew the already stiffened parts and make them look good. If you choose to do so, I would say start with chain 10, make 2dc, skip ch1, make 4dc, skip ch1, end with dc. Then continue with the usual pattern. Hope it helps. 🙂
