      the guy that did the drums (smk) pretty much pioneered that "trap" sound and he taught dj squeeky and likely taught dj paul how to make beats (used to give paul drums n samples) and those two dudes heavily impacted these trap producers

    DeVante's production. People like to say Tim ghost-produced this, but even the engineer Dave Arons has interviewed talking about DeVante working on this beat (literally, the interview is on youtube). People really need to understand what producing actually means. It doesn't mean the producer played every instrument. It means he built, constructed, conceived the song. He's the architect, not necessarily the contractor. But in De's case, he was often all of those things. The synths, the piano, the vibe of the entire song was DeVante. As for the drums, SMK brought that drum style from Memphis to Da Bassment. And Missy liked the style. That's how Tim started creating it through his own productions. Confirmed by many of the other artists in Da Bassment.

    Devonte was kinda like the DJ Khalid of the 90s, meaning he knew how to put good talent together. And like Khalid, he would have his name on a lot of the work, as he owned the rights. And let's face it, many people in the 90s just signed contracts and didn't really know what they were signing. Long story short, many of the beats that Devonte gets credit for weren't actually made by Devonte.

      That’s complete nonsense.

    • @flowblow-cv4zp
      @flowblow-cv4zp 2 місяці тому +1

      @@blahzay_ No, it makes sense. We know that Timbaland's drums came from Devante and that he taught him a lot, but in many cases, Timbaland and Devante made music together, and Timbaland could create his own beats with Devante’s drums. Timbaland brought his own style, and personally, I think Devante's best beats were when they worked together. I also heard that Timbaland made the beat from Static Major’s former agent who followed them everywhere. It was very common back then to make a track and not get credited, or to sing in the background and not be mentioned, like how Static did the backgrounds on Jodeci’s album and wasn’t credited for exemple. But it's not because someone else did the drums that it wasn't him who made the beat.
