Man, I remember being in junior high school (middle school nowadays), and my next-door neighbor and school friend had gotten Boston's first album. He invited me over, we listened to it on his Zenith Allegro stereo system. After hearing that, I went out and bought the album and then later as a Christmas gift to myself, a new stereo. Foreplay/Long Time was my favorite on that album. Then along came the Don't Look Back album. You talk about rockin' the house. Feelin' Satisfied was the big hit from that album. Every song on both of those albums were great front and back. No throw away songs. And the artistry for the album covers was second to none. I seriously don't know of anyone I grew up with that listened to rock ever having anything bad to say about Boston. They all had every Boston album and/or tapes. I still have the 8-tracks of their first LP and Don't Look Back.

"A Man I'll Never Be" from their "Don't Look Back" album is one of my all-time favorites, and "Hollyann" from "Third Stage" is a hidden gem. Their "Corporate America" album actually has a few decent tunes, but "Didn't Mean to Fall in Love" is the only one that is close to the familiar BOSTON sound... in my opinion anyway.

I got their first 4 albums when each one came out. I saw them in concert when DON'T LOOK BACK came out. I love every moment of the BOSTON album, especially all of side 1, but DON'T LOOK BACK always seemed like leftover tracks. "Amanda" was a really great song, though the rest of the 3rd album never really did much for me. Oddly enough, "Amanda" always reminds me of the girl with that name that Quentin Collins fell in love with during the 1896 storyline on DARK SHADOWS (which was running on PBS at the time the album came out!). I have to hand it to Tom Scholz, for doing things HIS way.

Their first three albums made them legendary. They should’ve stopped there.
