Here's a tip they never tell you in these videos. It is almost essential to start with a hi-resolution photo that has professional lighting. It's very difficult to do this with some random picture you snapped with your phone or typical digital camera.
Do you mean the moment of how he creating the final layer? I guess they are the steps: 1. Ctrl + A (Select everything); 2. Ctrl+Shift+C (copy the current view of entire canvas, no matter which layer you are); 3. Ctrl+Shift+V (Paste in place.).
What a great tutorial. Top marks for making your cursor movements & selections slow & concise. I was able to follow & digest all of that without having to rewind at all. Many thanks for taking the time to help beginers like me.
You realize they're not right? a tutorial is educating someone on how to do something. A demonstration is showing what you know how to do.. e.g. Tutorials can be, but are not necessarily demonstrations. likewise Demonstrations are not always tutorials.
You can still learn from a demonstration if you really focus into it. However... Having someone talk about it and explaining it through out the video will help.
Want it to be sharper and more defined when it's finished? Duplicate your first layer, drag it to the top, do one more highpass filter on it, set to hard light and adjust opacity until you get the look you want!
This is such an incredibly elegant tutorial; all the steps are so clear, and the outcome is exactly like it makes itself out to be. All without a single word spoken. Thanks, from those of us who are more craftsmen than artists. Jeff
No problem. I just wanted to make sure you understood why so maybe people left those comments. Your work is really good! Please show us more. We can handle bad English, I promise! Like I said, no other digital painting videos on UA-cam come close to this. People need to understand: You DO NOT have to have Adobe illustrator or Corel. You can do this in Photoshop AND find a good printshop that can make t-shirts and posters without changing a thing. Just always remember SAVE yOuR PSD files!!!! This way, if they go-to print, they can burn the colors properly. Also remember this: Make New Layers for EVERYTHING!!!
This was sooooo helpful! Thank you! Best of all was that you explained how to add a stroke to a pen path. That is what I've wanted to know for ages! You just transformed my graphic design life. I almost cried. Seriously. God bless! :)
I recommend to add an adjustment layer for contrast, color saturation and color vibrancy. Also you could combine it with duplicates of Paint Daubs (about 10% to 25% opacity) and Poster Edges (near 50%opacity) from the gallery. Amazing video.
I couldn't agree with you more. It is very, very frustrating because you have to follow the cursor when, at times, the cursor is difficult to follow. Or, what they should have done was leave lower-thirds indicating what was done (or about to be done) at each step.
Thank you for the Tutorial, It is very well done and I love the effect. I have a question though, just before the very last step you show the mouse hovering over the "stroke" layer and then suddenly there is a new layer above it with all effects applied that you called "final", how did you create this layer? Thank you for you effort and for sharing!
And if you're feeling extra lazy, don't do anything and call it a "photo realistic digital painting"😂 I'm just playing, really cool video though, never thought about doing something like that
Fantastic tutorial! Love the look you ended up with. It was all straightforward, but I do have one question -- where you're manually adjusting dodging with the dodge tool, how is it switching from a full circle to a half circle for finer shape and dodge editing? I've clicked damn near every button on my keyboard and can't seem to find it, lol.
just go to Adobe and search the downloads. This is not the place for RAW discussions. BTW. RAW updates are free and can be added anytime to your workflow.
You're one of those nerds from forums that always talk about rules aren't you? Dorks like you aren't needed to enforce rules that don't exist in the UA-cam comment section.
Only Photoshoppers who are extremely experienced and advanced would know what is being done here.... ironic, no? Why would they need a silent video? The music is the same as in a massage parlor or something. Can you imagine how much more helpful this video would be if you actually listed each step you made and each tool you used instead of just having people watch you create a composite? This is like me teaching you how to play "Eruption" by Eddie Van Halen on the guitar by just playing it real fast in front of you. It would do absolutely nothing for you unless I broke it down into small sections, played it slowly and if i was really generous, took the time to write out the music for you so you could take it home and practice it. I really don't even want to try to comprehend the loss of thought-processing behind the making of this "tutorial".... which... it most certainly IS NOT!
Thanks for your comment! I can not speak English well, so when I made this video, I tried to slow down gradually, detailed annotations, I'd say, but for now it's really hard. I always put myself in the shoes of the audience and wonder how good this yet? They easy to understand?
unlike this person above, i much prefer this style of video that has little talking and skips directly to the effects. photoshop combinations are endless and i came here just to see the types of filters/layers you used, without unnecessary explanation of very introductory level concepts of high pass filter, dodge/burn, etc. i don't think anything in this was hard to understand, but i imagine if you add some text boxes that say like, "high pass filter: changes color texture and usually used to increase sharpness in details" or "we need to brighten this area, or "dodge" it in PS lingo" etc then maybe some of these complaints will go away...
I do agree - the music is, indeed, nice and soothing. However, it does not assist in following along _any_ tutorial if you can't see the step-by-step instructions, especially when the cursor is moving very quickly.
Wow thank you so much!!!! Extra thanks for making this video so simple and the effects so clear! Definitely gonna watch more of your tutorials! God bless!!💖💖😇
I TOTALLY agree with Jose below... you need to PAUSE on the SELECTIONS and TALK about what TOOL is being selected. Really don't need the jazzy music as much as I do about the INFORMATION! After all, isn't this supposed to be a HELP video??
Thanks. You helped me a lot. But why didn't you talk in the video? And by the way, I will make something like this with picture of myself or my bestie. Again.. Thank you a lot! I'm commenting a year after the uploading of this video, but I really want to thank you, because this thing with the painting is reaaally awesome. Thank you very much again, my friend! ^_^
Meh, don't worry about that. I want to hear your voice. And as you see, my english is worse, but I'm commenting, because if I have mistakes then I correct them. I learn english from school, youtube videos and mainly gaming. So if you do not speak very good this language it doesn't matter. :) By the way, where are you from?
You're welcome! To blur the image you can create a new white layer on the image you want to apply the effect to, and then, at the white layer, you reduce the Opacity value.

Wonderful. Excellent music choice as well. I'm a novice, I would benefit from voice over the music describing what you're doing. Obviously you're a pro. so that might be asking too much from a newbie. Thanks for the step by step tutorial. Well done!!!
Followed pretty well through the whole video. Maybe put the text box a little higher and change the music up a little bit. Awesome job, simple, but it looks great. Thank you! You don't need to change my friend.

Very nice work. Congrats . :)

This is a demonstration not a tutorial. The piano explains noting
The word "noting" doesn't describe the piano.
You do realize that the word demonstration and tutorial are the same thing right

yes :) thanks
This is an excellent video. I love when there-s no talking. Straight to the point.
Thank you! :)
thank you! this was sooo helpful, I appreciate it!
I wish people would talk you through these videos. Would save endless stop and rewind to see where the pointer is.
Thank you!
Yea but then you would have to stop and rewind to look up English translations. :)
Kate Stevens my problem with some of these tutors is they don't speak too clearly or speaks with an accent.
I couldn't agree with you more. It is very, very frustrating because you have to follow the cursor when, at times, the cursor is difficult to follow. Or, what they should have done was leave lower-thirds indicating what was done (or about to be done) at each step.
so good work i like it...... & your method.
Thank you! Look forward to your many comments. :)
When creating the "final" layer, what shortcut key did you use?
I forgot to explain at this step. To create it, use [Ctrl + Alt + Shift + E]. :)
El Mejor video de Photoshop que haya visto
Thank you so much! :)
Love the effect, would be much easier to follow you if were speaking though 🙃
Thank you!
I would have to agree. Hearing a voice-over in _any_ tutorial makes it so much easier to follow along.
Excellent tutorial!

You're welcome! Hope it is useful to you. :)
Do you have a tutorial explaining step by step please
So cool, specially in last those strokes were maestro's touch ♥
I really enjoyed watching your video. The music was very relaxing and I enjoyed watching you transform the pic into a painting. Well done!
Thank you! I was worried when my video had no voice, you understood when watching this video, that was my success. ^^
Cool! Nice piano!
Thank you! ^^
8:32 - how does he add "FINAL LAYER" thank u
[Ctrl + Alt + Shifl + E] :)

Thank you! It is a full circle, due to the software recording error so you only see half the circle. ^^
this is some good high quality production nice works
really great.. but I tried here following these steps. it didnt work cause the resolution of my image
If your image has low resolution, the effects will not be pretty.
