- Like many rural communities in Kenya, until recently the village where John Magiro lives had no connection to the national power supply.

Running cables from the nearest large settlement was expensive - and nobody wanted to foot the bill.
John got tired of waiting for the national electricity company to do the work - so he built a miniature power grid for himself and his neighbours out of old scrap metal.

Such a inspiring person, I glad I know about what he has done.
John Magiro is a great person who provides electricity to his village. His work is really inspiring. Instead of waiting for the grid connected electricity ,he himself tried to find a solution. As a first step, he generated electricity for his own home. Later he expanded his project to generate large amount of electricity so that whole village can be powered.
Today he's serving over 3,000 customers.
