I agree 100% with your comment and the fellow that replied first. AA/FA cars were big in @ Tucson Dragway and Beeline Dragway in what's now Paradise Valley. Cars Like Pure Hell, Pure Heaven, Dave Hough's Nanook, Yellow Submarine and, of course, The Famous "Wild Willie Borsch" in the "Winged Express." Many others as well. To me, when it came time for the "Fuel Altered Nationals" at Tucson Dragway Me and a whole bunch of my Gear Head buddies would always make it to those meets. They were so wild and unpredictable that it seemed like 2000 H/P Mechanized Brahma Bull Riding! Especially when the last few rounds took place after sunset. Header flames and cars with sooo much torque that they seemed to want to go any way but straight. My best friend Tom was a Drag Racer through and through. His Bible was the weekly "Drag News". Tom's been gone for a few years now but, I always wished (with some regrets) that we didn't make a "Buddy Road Trip" to Bakersfield Ca. for the March Meet at Famoso. That would have made for some Epic memories! Thanks for uploading this very cool video.
I'm not referring to real altereds like Wild Willies car....hell Garlits' had a wing mounted on top of his engine at the 63/64 Winternationals...I'm talking about keeping cars looking period correct and you can do that and still make them safe ....look at the difference between Gauscos Pure Hell and the witch doctor. You can also start with getting rid of the computers and throttle stops and doing Winged Express style burnouts like Mike Boyd did, a real showman and crowd pleaser....R.I.P Mike
@@robertmeadows2432 oh I see. I met him in 2008 at a Googuys car show in Des Moines Iowa. He was following the show and driving his Duece coupe. I think he said Colorado was the next stop. Nice guy and I wish him a quick recovery.
I only see a few true period correct nostalgia fuel altereds without wings and my hats off to them.....the rest are nothing but funny cars without the bodies. It's a shame that more emphasis isn't on keeping with the period correct theme instead of just being posers....
That was awesome! Fuel Altered's forever!
Yes it was!
Thanks for providing this great video.
Glad you enjoyed it!
A fuel altered is not simply a funny car chassis with a roadster body. Pure Hell is a fuel altered.
The only real fuel altered out there

I LOVE THE SMELL OF NITRO IN THE MORNING
Great video, grew up with these altered in 60s, awesome rods and so fast and unpredictable
Awesome thanks for sharing 👍
Enjoyed!!!!! 🤜🤛
those frontmotor oldies are freakin awesome🤩
I watched Pure Hell do it’s first test run at Fremont Drag Strip In 1970.195 mph in a 1/4 mile,Very impressive
Nothing like the smell sound and feel of a altered, and it's got nitro too. Nice job on the really good sounds thank you very much.
Thank you!!

Great To See Rich Back In The Saddle....
Didn’t I see him in a wheelchair in the group picture?
@@mike19640 Yes....Rich is recovering from back surgery....

Can smell the Meth
Looks like the weather reports kept the fans away.
Yeah, it was on and off but the die hards didn't let a little wet keep them from the action
So, do the AAFA cars run 1000' or 1320'?
i think 1320.
They run 1320
All nostalgia cars run 1320 feet.
There's Rich at the end.
They run 1/4 mile
Yes, the full 1320

It’s called safety my friend.
