The Chromance - RGB Wall Art You Can Build (Cheaper and Bigger than Nanoleaf!)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 1 тра 2021
- I want to stream every week, but my wall sucks! Let's put up 30 feet of RGB hexagons and make 'em display my stress levels. I'll call it Chromance, because it's not just pretty colors. It's my heart.
This project and video were sponsored by EmotiBit! Help Kickstart their eponymous hacker-friendly emotion-tracking biosensor wearable! www.kickstarter.com/projects/...

NanoLeaf wall triangles are history - we all know hexagons are the bestagons. This electronics and 3D printing project packs a punch, but is surprisingly easy to build!

The eating a wrist watch joke was right on time.
lmao
stop it now
I think you’ve ticked someone off…
Bro, I sat there and had to chew on it for a second.
Someone should really give him a hand
The only youtuber who is actually funny when he tries to be. Cracks me up every time .
His scripts are ridiculously good.
You clearly haven't seen Technology Connections
@@kiefac Patron to both :)
@@Paroxymic sorry, meant that for OP. Can't tag the OP in a reply apparently
I also recommend Marco Reps. The funniest German I've seen so far ;)
"It's a lot like eating your wrist watch: isn't particularly difficult, but it is time consuming"
lol broke name intensifies

@@rithvikkona8922 Really, it's across my entire screen and thru my recommends, lol. I even decided to reply to you instead of the OP. you would think UA-cam wouldn't allow that? Very cool. But yeah I like that stupid watch joke, I'm going to use it allot.
Your name is a cheat
That one took me waaaaay to long
I hear someone saying "go" or something whenever you are starting a clip.
i thought it's my neighbors at first lol
Same! Could it be a part of the hidden message? Like the names of his patrons or something..
Omg thank you, hopefully he addressed it later in the video, really got to have a pause there.
Probably his wife, giving him a starting cue. He has shown in previous videos that she helps him record videos.
They need to adopt the Wayne's World methodology: ua-cam.com/video/Y_iavAphIMI/v-deo.html
Hexagons are the Bestagons.

Your scripts are ridiculously well written and delivered. Poetry and art and junk is my jam, and damn, your wordsmithery deserves much more praise. Also, glad to see you'll be streaming. More of that curly top bouncing around is good for UA-cam, that's why you're everyone's favorite channel, now.
Also, at some point I'm gonna post my backlog of oil paintings as shorts, I'd love to gift you a piece if ever you see those future and hypothetical videos.
That watch joke made my brow furrow but my belly laugh unfurrowed it. 11/10
I feel the same way I did after watching Tenet... confused and amazed at what I just watched.
Would love to attempt this at some point
same
I 'watched' the "time consuming" pun in a 'timely' manner.
I came back for seconds
Let's not forget about the wrist of his puns.
I got to hand it to him, I chuckled for a minute
Oh stop winding me up
@@ZackFreedman We have been noticed by hour benevolent overlord!
Big fan of the way you present your videos it's a great mix of education and entertainment, that watch eating joke did make me laugh so thank you for that
I love how there’s a little “oh” sound every cut
The Robin Williams of Makers! Another [a]literally lovely episode.
Whaaat! spiffy wall art and the prospect of weekly streams! top shelf Sunday viewing :) great video dude.
The Antifa being last scared me, was like no, where'd they go
Don’t need em anyway ;)
Quality over quantity! You guys are an absolute inspiration, this is the best content on youtube hands down.
Just found you a couple of weeks ago and love the content. This is some good stuff. Thanks so much!
Can we appreciate the fact that he links his words so damn good, even with some cheesy puns
11:59 WHY DID I HEAR THAT AS "The only Wi-Fi ever need"
The only wi-fi ever need... unless you're Mormon.
The final installation looks amazing, great job mate!
Always a good video when wiring up LEDs reminds you that the 7 bridges of konigsberg solution is relevant to my life in too many ways...
l love the alliteration-y intro. Perfectly on point, Pal.
This is the best channel on UA-cam rn. I feel like I’m not alone in my brain with this community. Thank you Zack.
Aww! Thank you!
this is sweet man, thanks for the code and STLs this is gonna be my wall
Thank you for the good work and please keep it up. I appreciate it. You give these old bones new life.
Always amazed at all the alliteration.
So glad that you’re gonna make more videos!
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! I had almost this exact idea and I was too lazy to figure out how to make it a reality. Brb buying parts now
that intro made me feel things ive never felt before
Ok dude you finally developed cool lines, now I am 100% percent where I put my sub
The writing in this script is phenomenal!
The alliteration bits gave me big Letterkenny vibes, love it
Haha dude, I like your projects but I love your writing 🤣👌 the jab at Amazon was amazing haha
Thank you very much Zack for having used my music in your video. Thanks for the support. Greetings
hexagons are the bestagons
you might've just accidently solved my color light strip mounting problems. woo!
Nerds everywhere can finally express outward emotion
I can only dream of having as good alliteration skills as you
OMG I LOVE your alliterations!
I'm definitely building two of these. One for me and my daughter.
Looks amazing, first time seeing your channel can now say i'm Subbed
Once again my neighbours must think I'm crazy when I laughed alone in my flat about the "eating a watch" bit :D great video :)
I really love TheAntifa, was actually wondering where they went at first. Kudos for the labor rights shout out btw, I appreciate the effort
Eating a wristwatch is "time consuming" - yet another pearl of wisdom from Zach.
that thing looks amazing! great job! stay safe.
"Too hairy and Jewish..." I felt that. Also snorted at the "the consuming" line. Come for the geekery, stay for the jokes. This is a fun project that looks awesome! Thanks for sharing!
off the charts man! great work!
"...like eating a wristwatch; it isn't particularly difficult, but it is time-consuming."
I fukken died.
I love it when he does that with his words. :)
The soundtrack to this video is on point
Even more proof that hexagons ARE the bestagons!!
I like how your background has some of the prettiest and coolest tech... and then there is a hanging shofar
Excuse me, that is a drinking horn. It doesn’t have a blowy hole. The mead would leak out.
Aluminum rails and diffusers for light strips are a goldmine for DIY RGB. I'm surprised more people haven't done something similar yet. Nanoleaf kits are like $200! But 50 feet of rail is maybe $20.
I'm making a pair of light bars, and I _was_ just going to stick it on the wall. But now I need to make some risers so I can flip them around to face the wall, because that looks _so much better._
Just noticed that one horizontal, one vertical dual screen setup. I abandoned it when most of my games wouldn't play nice but it was nice for Discord, UA-cam shorts, and occasionally reading code
I like it for the touchscreen because it keeps the onscreen keyboard from hiding the programs!
Pretty cool light project. Heck, i even considering to build something like this!
Amazing as always. Thanks for sharing 😉
Damn dude you put out really well produced / well researched / cleverly scripted content at a very steady clip, which I love, but I hope you know where your burnout limits are and are able to dodge them. Actually, that could be a cool topic for a video (although maybe you've already done that one!)
Thanks! The lead-up to the move pushed me way past my limits, so I have a much better sense of what I can keep up with.
Everything about this is amazing.
So like, 40 amps these could draw? Nuts! My biggest issue is how to power LED projects without insane power requirements.
Gosh darn it I love your videos.
The alliteration in the beginning blew my brain circuits
Im moving next week and i am def building this!
this is something i actually can se myself be capable of doing. super smart solutions!
Go for it! Instructions are in the description.
That's so f'in cool, real work of art! I always enjoy watching a genius unfold! :) cool video, i really enjoy your channel, so much creativity & smartness combined! one day I will try to make something similar! wish you the best!
The way you talked on the start for some reason reminded me of the way the a.i./narrator in KND talked
So real talk I literally love your content the way you present it and all but in all honesty I kinda hate you... lol... just a little for coming up with such an awesome good looking project, thanks now I have to build one, hahah!
All seriousness please keep up the great, amazing, excellent, stupendous work!!!!!
Fewer videos more ambitious projects... YES PLEASE!
Whoaaaa.....that's unbelievably awesome!!!!!!
Subscribed and liked as always😁
man you are a master scriptwriter. also ok at electronics
Really cool effect !
The eating watch joke got me, good one.
lmao, glad to know TheANTIFA makes people angry. Keep it up whoever you are.
I love the idea of this... and would love to make one... any chance of a step-by-step walk through? have watched (and kept up with - despite the speed!!!) most of your videos... but would like a more in-depth on this?
5:25 is so true it hurts, but tbh I love to see it included
Really cool project
Neat! Fork'n watching for BOM!
Hexagons are the Bestagons!
Another hit video!
I'm thinking about things to put on the wall behind me, so I don't have the blank white wall of doom during meetings. This came up at just the right time. What distance do you plan on being from the wall while you record, so that it remains a cool background and doesn't become a constant distraction for your viewers?
Hey Zack, is there a budget alternative to DotStar LEDs that you would recommend for this project? My Friendly Local Microcenters don't have them in the clearance bin. Or in stock.
Whoa, whoa, whoa there Manhatten. "Code is boring"? What does that mean? Code are the spells of the modern Alchemist, homeboy. Build what you want with your modern purified crystals, metallurgy, and magic bric-a-brac: it all means nothing without the correct incantations.
I touch on this in a few episodes, but putting code on screen causes a dip in retention. Many viewers just seem to click away when programming, or maybe just the code itself, comes up. I felt like for this episode, it was worth losing some retention.
This would be super rad for my classroom. I'm thinking of reducing it to 3 hexagons and omitting the biosensor and putting the animations on a loop. Anyone else planning on building this without the sensor?
You can build it without the scencor easily you just have to code the light movement on your own
Can you share the code and what did you do differently? I want to build one without the wrist sensor, too.
@@eLFuetee i havent built one but a bit of tweaking the code can just make it have patterns without the sensor
Are you implying this is the first project you've presented on this channel that viewers can make? That sounds like a challenge...
This would be good for streaming games.
Did you say, "WiFi is part of the art," @4:53? I love it! It should go on a t-shirt!
He probably considered calling the project "wifART" but this joke got cut from the vid.
Found the hidden names !!! 5:59 at the top of the code ! Quite obvious, very nice project and pls make sth rocket-like ; )
The writing is so good. The delivery is adequate, but that's part of it's charm. I honestly wouldn't change a thing about it.
I like this but only want it to activate when there's life detected in the room, by having sensors for heat, motion, sound and maybe have it default to a clock during rest mode?
I am building a hexagonal ceiling lamp right now. Still working on it I also use SK6812 LED strips.
I want one of those boards... It would be awesome for diagnostic sleep tracking
That intro made me think that you've been watching Letterkenny recently
I rarely comment on anything but damn I love this channel and its content
Hi zack! Could you share the code for neopixels? Also i would like to know how connect the wires to the 8 pin connector.
Thanks!!
this is great,
has anyone managed to get a version of the code, that doesnt require the monitor, and is just the code for the Hexagons?
Could you show how the data wires are connected in a three way piece? I can only seem to find shots of even numbered pieces in your video. This is an awesome project and thank you for sharing!
I put diagrams in the instructions - check the description or the GitHub repo
Anyone tried this project but without the biometric bit? Ie... running patterns without the barometric sensor or perhaps tied to weather or music variables?
PS: What does the wall do when the EmotiBit is not active?
deeewde! that wristwatch joke... XDXDXD do you have children now? This is so much cooler than the Nano Leaf bro! Also thx to the Antifa! ♥
Is there a instruction to build the hexagon lights with the lightpatterns without an external connection to the biosensors?
Well that was fucking cool. Keep it up man you're an inspiration
Hey your videos are so cool, don't worry if you space them a bit ^^
NGL, the ThunderFinger is a sick name
