I’m upgrading to a leather wheel from a salvage vehicle. Can I move my recall updated airbag over? Thanks

Hi. Thanks so much for your question. Hopefully I can help you out. I probably would need a bit more information, but I'll try my best. You most likely already know, but the airbag is mostly a separate unit from the steering wheel. It just bolts into the center and could be described as the horn button. If the two wheels are out of a similar year model, with the same options, it should swap over fine. If the new wheel is a premium steering wheel, possibly with more options, like stereo and cruise or computer controls, it/they may not work. As for a recalled airbag, I'm not sure of what was recalled. If it was in the airbag itself, you should be fine. If it was something in or in-between the clock spring, that may need to swapped also. In the case of the pilot I was working on here, I swapped both the leather wheel and the airbag with no problems. Worse case scenario, swap them over, if any check airbag system lights come on, plug it in to a diagnostic computer and see if it can be reset. If it comes on again, you may have to transfer more, or go back to your original. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching. Hopefully you'll take the time to subscribe. - Sponge

The wood trim was an upgraded factory option in some of the pilots. I'm sure there are some aftermarket options. You might look around on eBay, or maybe just Google search it. In our case, we had an entire other donor Pilot that was purchased. Hopefully this helps. Thanks for watching. - Sponge
