- I have my DRB II Connected to give live data from engine sensors. It stumbles and lacks power when cold and intermittently once warm. Before I bought it the fuel pump, distributor cap and rotor, spark plugs and wires and MAP sensor were all replaced. Today I replaced the ignition coil. I’m thinking maybe the distributor timing is set wrong (I need to get a timing light. or pickup coil is going bad, but I’d welcome any and all input from my viewers!
I remember being in a brand new turbo new Yorker in like 86 that had this issues with stalling. Can’t imagine one running well 40 years later
Wont idle cold, is an common symptom for failed AIS motor.
Maybe have compression loss and when the engine heats up the rings expand and compression continues to improve.
My 2 immediate thoughts are either lack of air (Unlikely from the MAP readings) or the injectors may be sticking.
Interesting thought! The air filter is clean as can be and like you said the MAP readings look ok so maybe it is the injectors. It smells like it is running rich, too. I guess the CAT could be bad, but it could be flooding itself. Maybe Fuel Pressure Regulator.
@@LAEXMA Yes....good call.
Where do you get these cool cars?
I just keep my eyes peeled and I live Denver where the roads aren’t salted every winter so they don’t tend to rust away quite as quick.
Ais motor is not working. Map sensor is reading a little below normal And stop revving a cold turbo motor..its not good for it.
It might be an intermittent fault with it. Despite the DRB-IIs status here, I’ve run it in ATM Mode and I can hear the AIS is working, and it does actively adjust the idle. I’m not sure the DRB-II can give a proper reading of the AIS on the 84 model year, it was the first year of the turbo after all.
And if I can’t run a frozen 2.2 Turbo motor at 6500 RPM from a dead stop then what fun is it?
The DRB shows no readings for the automatic idle speed motor. Have you checked to verify that the control motor is not stuck and the valve is wide open?
Good point. I’m not sure sure why it isn’t giving a reading for the AIS, but it isn’t throwing a code for it.
@@LAEXMA Here's another possibility: Since it's smells like the engine is running rich, the o-ring on the fuel pressure regulator could be bad ( or the regulator itself may be perforated ). That would certainly dump excessive amounts of fuel down the throttle body.
