You are a busy bee checking off all your maintenance jobs. It feels good when you get on top of it all and I always sleep better. The pond and plants all look very healthy, its nice to hear the sound of water in a garden. Thank you for sharing. 🐞🌻🌱
Hi Jeanette 👋 What a beautiful garden you have. Fab work done in this video a lovely lioking tree🌲. Amazing how tge ants made their nest in the roots. Goid job you saved it 👍 Looking forward to watching more of your videos ❤
Great work, Janette! ⭐️ I especially enjoyed your rose pruning tutorial - will definitely take more care next time I do mine!! 😃 My zinnias were a disaster too - they were showing promise until the squirrels started digging them up!! 🐿 Happy gardening! 🌸🐸🌺
Hey Fiona, I cannot even blame my squirrels 🐿️ I didn’t see any digging action around mine 😂 I never have luck with seeds, I’m giving up on that I think 👍 glad if I’ve helped with your rose pruning though 😊 nearly the weekend, hope it’s a good one for you 😊😘☀️
I left my picea growing in a border. I tried to keep it small by trimming back but eventually had to cut it down it was growing so fast. I love your garden. I have been busy making flower beds from my lawn. The lawn is now half the size but I have more room for lovely plants!
Good morning Margaret ☀️ I guess that’s what’s going to happen to mine in the end, another example of me planting for instant impact rather than considering mature sizes. But at least it has more space for the time being. Sounds like you’ve been really busy too! Hope you have a really lovely week 💜😊
My heart went out to youhaving to cut down that beautiful rose! I am trying a companion planting for my roses - anything from the allium family is to reduce the blackspot. I started last year and there is definitely much less blackspot. I just cut off the affected leaves and I make sure to clear away all the fallen leaves in Autumn to provent the black spot living in the soil over the winter!
Hi Janette, hope you and Richard are well. Like summer this year I am late to watch your video. In the process of having a new drive being laid, which meant moving plants to my back garden, repositioned a rose which looks sad / limp, I may prune it hoping for new buds later I enjoyed it, learning how and why to prune roses, anti mosquito fluid and adding iron to the soil, all very interesting and informative. Also seeds that didn't work out to general potting around... Take care. YEITN Steve
Hello there Steve and goodness you’ve been as busy gardening as I have. Most exciting having a new driveway. I moved a small rose a few weeks ago (didn’t film it) and thought I’d killed it, and nearly pulled it out, but don’t give up on yours because I cut mine right back (it had turned brown) and now a few weeks later it has stopped sulking and has bounced right back again I’m pleased to say. Anyway, thanks for my News From The North - raining here in the South today. See you soon! 💙🩷
Well… I can’t imagine it being only 70 degrees. Here in the southern portion of the U.S. we are dealing with upper 90’s with no rain for 3 weeks, so far. It’s miserable. We are watering constantly. Maybe I need to move to Essex.😊 Your garden is beautiful. I need to it some iron, too, for a couple of shrubs. Love where you moved your tree.
Hi Lindylou, I really feel for you all because I’ve been hearing from so many garden friends in the comments how hot it is for you all. It must be very tough. Lots of people saying they do their gardening for about an hour very early in the mornings and that’s all they can do. Some years we get into the mid 80s and that seems hot enough to me. You take care and keep cool 😎 and thanks so much for always watching my friend ☀️😊
Hi Janette, Oh my goodness! What a job! Hope you didn't get bitten by those ants. I'm sure Hoopsii will be much happier there and will probably fill out at the back now it's away from the fence. Black spot on roses is such a nightmare. I love roses but Sydney can be quite humid and humidity and black spot go together 😞. The little fountain looks good moved further forward and the solar fountain is a lovely addition to the Wildlife Pond. Sad about the zinnias. Hope you and Richard have a great week. Much love, Bron xx
Hello Bron and I didn’t get bitten fortunately. Been wanting to move that Picea for ages so I’m glad that’s done. Getting sunny over here finally, I expect you’re getting colder? Was a busy weekend but such fun to get everything done. Hope you’re having a really great week my friend. Lancelot is still guarding his spot 🤣☀️😎😊
Hello Janette. My roses are not doing to well You have given me a good idea to use sulphur iron. You did a lot of work in your garden. Every thing is looking good Lottie is so cute she loves the garden
Morning Olga and I’ve been meaning to get the sulphur for a few years! And it’s quite cheap on Amazon and arrived the next day too. Yes, Lotte is such a sweet girl, she does love her garden 😊☀️ Hope you’re having a great week ☀️😊
Hi Janette, what a tough job getting the Piccea Pungens Hoopsil out of the container. 😊 I am forever picking black spot leaves off my roses, it drives me mad 😠. My neighbour has an old and very large rose bush which is covered in black spot, which I think doesn't help my plants. I mentioned my King Charles Rose last week. It actually has two flowers on it! I love how your pond is doing with the grasses. I often plant too many plants together for instance effect, and then regret it a few years later. Looking forward to next video 😊😊😊
Hi there Pauline and thanks for watching 😊 oh wow you have 2 flowers on your King Charles!! And how annoying if it’s your neighbour who’s giving you the black spot! As you know I’m forever planting too close together, I really don’t want to keep having to move plants any more, poor things. Hope you’re having a great week so far ☀️😊
I need to get some of that iron sulphate for my roses..garden is looking lovely as always Jeanette, looking forward to the new addition..a little fish maybe??
Hi Tracie and thank you! I’ve been meaning to get the iron sulphate for a couple of years would you believe?!! No it’s not fish, our pond is far too small for fish, we checked that with a few different fish experts and it’s a definite no for this size pond. Well I can’t give anything away but I’ve been saying to garden friends who have asked in these comments that I hope you’re not disappointed, but it’s something I’m excited about but it’s not something that’s going to look spectacular when it’s done! Very cryptic I know 😂😄😊 have a lovely week 💜
Good afternoon Janette Yes,i discovered ants around my holly bush. Used ant powder. It has worked for now. Your pond looks so established. My green garden waste bin has lost a wheel,so I'm awaiting a replacement from the council. Promised me one within 10 days. Still not here. I don't know whether to ring and remind them 💕
Hi Sharon, I didn’t have any ant powder, I did run inside and look under my kitchen sink and then rummaged around in my shed too 🤣 but couldn’t find anything. I hope I drowned them in the bucket of water and I’ve also been another tip to put cinnamon powder around the base as well. I think you should give them a call and a nudge about your green waste bin 😉 have a lovely week ☀️😎😊
@@TheEnthusiasticGardener that why I said or mentioned before , gardeners won’t leave they plant alone 😂. There’s always changing plans 😊. But I got to say you’re a strong lady , and hard worker .
Oh my goodness Janette! 😮 LOL. I worry about you pulling such a heavy root bound tree out of a pot like that! Take it from me...a partially disabled senior. Just push or kick the pot over on its side, and then slide the plant out. Don't risk a hernia or hurting your back. Beautiful deodar tree however!!🌺
See, I needed you here with me on the day with your sensible advice! Why did I not think of that?! Sometimes the answer is staring us right in the face 🤣 I will remember in future. Have a wonderful week ☀️😊
Well I am surprised that you did not get those ants all over you and wow that tree was growing some serious roots . you did a great job re-homing it, I have been busy here trying to get everything caught up with the weather this year being stupid crazy I am almost there just need to get the mulch delivered and down . Oh happy day when that is over and done.
Hi there Shirlene, it was a beast of a job getting that spruce out, I only showed a fraction of it 🤣 I didn’t get covered in ants though fortunately and hopefully I managed to drown them all 🤞 well done for getting all your jobs done too. Wishing you a great week 😊☀️😎
I would love a picea in my garden the color is magnificent and the structure. The rose info was very helpful especially which five leaf to cut to. You are five foot 9 wow how tall is Richard ?? Dang I’m a shorty at 5ft 3 😳 Garden looks and sounds so peaceful! I agree summer is more calm than spring.
Hi Teresa, the blue spruces are such a lovely colour aren’t they? Of course they’re going to grow huge eventually and I’ll no doubt regret that, but I’ll worry about that when the time comes 🤣. Oh Yes I’m 5’9” and Rich is 6’. I’m not so much a fan of summer gardening, especially if you have to keep hand watering, that becomes tedious. Spring is my absolute favourite season, but then again it’s also very busy with lots to do, so it’s nice to be able to take it easier. Hope you’re having a great start to your week. I’m off to the dentist shortly!! Take care ☀️😎👍
Hi Diane, I did consider the mosquito dunks, I’ve heard they really work well. They’re very expensive though but I guess I’d only need a little bit of one in my tiny pond. My treatment seems to have worked though so I’m delighted about that. Wishing you a great week 😊☀️😎
Hi Janette! Well you got a lot accomplished in the garden and despite the ants, black spot and mosquitoes, everything is looking wonderful! Have a wonderful day. ❤❤
Hello Lauren and thank you! Glad I tackled all those things and today I’m having a restful one. Gorgeous and sunny here. Hope you have a wonderful day too ☀️😎😊
In Canada the blue spruce gets huge 30-60 ft high. You might need to chop it down in a few years. We had a bad storm and our rose tree suffered wind damage, I cut it back like you did, and it’s growing back. Your roses were so pretty. We have a solar fountain too, Tom has to keep adding water in the heat. Thanks for the gardening tips. Your garden has really grown a lot. Your garden is a pruners delight! I love to prune plants. See you next week! I wonder what the surprise is?
Hello Nancy 😊 oh my goodness, I know!! They grow 6-8” each year and yes eventually it’s going to be rather enormous! I will have to worry about that at some point in the future I’m sure. But it’s lovely in the meantime. 🤣 as for my surprise, I’ve been saying to friends here in the comments that I hope you’re not too disappointed - it’s something I’m really excited about, and quite a bit of work, but it’s not something that’s going to look overly spectacular when I’ve finished! Very cryptic of me but that’s all I can say 🤣🤫😊🤩 have a lovely week 😎🤩
Don’t worry about that. It’s the small little things that give us the most joy in life. When you are happy, we are happy for you. Remember when you found the flamingo? Oh that was just so much fun!
What a productive time you have had. Getting well established plants out of tubs is not one of my favourite tasks. You did really well and found your tree a happy new home. Shame about the roses, all those lovely blooms, but I'm sure you will be rewarded with stronger healthier growth next year. The pond is really established and looking great! As is of course everything else. I'm looking forward to seeing the surprise in your next video! It is always a joy to see you tending and nurturing your garden.
Thank you so much Tony - yes great shame about the rose and the pond is crystal clear which I’m very happy about. That spruce took forever to get out, I only showed a tiny bit of it 🤣 thanks for watching and see you next week 🙏☀️😊
I can’t wait to do it!! I hope you’re not disappointed though, it is to do with the pond but certainly nothing that’s going to look spectacular when I’ve finished, but I’m excited about it. Can’t tell you any more 🤫
Great job, Janette!🎉 i had two arborvitae in pots that needed to be planted in the landscape. It was the same thing! The roots were huge! I didn't know about root pruning back then, so I dug HUGE holes! They were so deep that I had to get in the holes to keep digging.😂 I was in so much pain that I booked an appointment with my chiropractor! I've learnt my lesson. My roses have black spot, but the Japanese beetles have eaten all the leaves and blooms off of them anyway. I'm thinking of pulling them all out.
Oh goodness me Dawn, we certainly don’t need to go to the gym do we? We get enough exercise 🤣 just imagining you in the hole digging further!! I can’t imagine what dealing with Japanese beetles must be like!! I’m so lucky not to have them, although I think they are over here 🤞 they don’t find me. Have a lovely week my friend 😊☀️
Hi Janette, that was fun, for me anyway, you were very efficient. I do believe that with all the rain we've had, it just washed all the goodness out of the soil, I went around with my homemade nettle tea and it seems to have done the trick. Because of the extreme humidity all of my roses which are all new and David Austin, got some black spot so I cut of the leaves which were infected earlier on in the year and that seems to have worked. Keeping fingers crossed. As you say, it's summer at last and so lovely not to rush things between showers. Things are growing well under the circumstances and some things too well. Last year I planted from seed some equinops globe thistle, I planted them in threes 😢 they are enormous 😮 and I'm having to cut them back before they flower. I will deal with those in the autumn, my neighbour will have them, and I'll have to think of something else 😉 thanks for sharing your beautiful garden with us. I can't wait to see what you're adding to your pond. I'm still waiting for frogs to come to mine. I saw one 2 years ago and I was so excited and then he disappeared. I think my pond gets far too much sun. Have a lovely day in your garden🙋♀️
Hi Kim, I’ve just googled and the globe thistles do look very lovely. I’ve been saying, to any friends who have mentioned my next week’s project, that it’s something I’m very excited about, and quite a bit of work, but it’s not something that’s going to look spectacular when I’ve finished 😉 I’m very cryptic I know 🤣 I’m in the planning stage 😎 hope you have a lovely week - and hope you find your frog again 🐸 😊
Wow, that ‘Hoopsii’ was a beast! Getting all those maintenance chores done is so satisfying and collectively makes your garden look so pretty. We have been incredibly dry all month with just a smattering of rain here and there with temps in the 90’s for days on end. I have to work in my garden very early, around 6:00 - 7:30 and then the sun is just unbearable. We got a tiny bit of rain yesterday so I won’t have to water today, thank goodness. I’ve taken inspiration from you and planted a few bolder colored plants this year: coral colored purslane and bright yellow yarrow as well as some brightly colored coleus. I’m very happy with how it looks!
Oh JC your new plants and colour scheme sound fabulous, glad you’re pleased with it. I’ve heard how very hot it is for you all right now but a great idea to garden very early while you can. Watering everything all the time does become very tedious doesn’t it? Thanks so much for watching and keep cool 😎 my friend.
That was a huge root structure when you pulled up the "Hoopsii". You did well to get it out. I'm always planting things without taking into consideration the final height/spread of the plant. I know it's hard when our seeds don't germinate but this year has been the worst that I've ever known. My garden is normally full of Sunflowers but I only had about six seeds germinate this time. The weather has had a lot to do with it. Too wet and too cold. The good thing with gardening is there's always next year to try again. Shame we don't live nearer to one another Janette as you could've had some of my Zinnias. I did a really late sowing of them and they've been one of the things that's been successful.
I know Wendy, when will we ever learn? 🤣 I don’t want to move anything else! I could count on both hands the number of plants which are in their first original spots 🤣 oh well done for your zinnias though, I never have luck with seeds. I don’t know if you remember a few years ago, I had a whole growlight system put in our cabin and trays and trays of seeds, after weeks of growing and hardening them off, I planted them out and the slugs ate them all! So disheartening, plus I caused mould in the cabin which Rich had to fix because of all the moisture! I’m giving up on the seeds and leaving that to all you experts!! Thanks for watching, have a lovely week ☀️😊
Hi Janette, the zinnias will grow and most likely 3 will fill the pot. Your garden is looking glorious. The blue evergreen you moved looks beaufitul in its new home. Its absolutely gorgeous. Enjoy your week!
Thank you very much Adra, I do love that blue spruce in its new spot. And 3 will fill the pot? Well that all worked out well then - I would like to say “according to plan” 🤣 all is them not lost! Wishing you a happy week ☀️😊
Lovely video Janette! It’s satisfying as a viewer to watch you accomplishing so much, especially as I’m hiding out indoors at the moment from the intense heat! A quick note above the frogs- from my online research when I was looking into making a pond, the consensus seemed to be it would need to be minimum a metre deep in order for frogs to feel safe and set up home? I remember that fact as it put me off making a little pond for the moment,as they were all saying unless it’s that deep you would get mosquitoes and undesirables 😞 I really hope the mosquito thing you got helps, as it’s a beautiful little pond you made, especially with the fountain ❤
Hi there Mahmuda and thanks for your lovely comments. You may well be right about the 1 metre, sadly. But then again I had a garden friend here comment, yesterday I think it was, to say she has a pond with no frogs in, and yet nearby she has a tiny water feature with 3 frogs 🤣 funny isn’t it? Never mind, if they come they come (would be nice though), I won’t give up trying to lure them in 😊🐸 hope you’re keeping cool in all the heat 😎 and have a lovely week 😊☀️
Hi Janette, another wonderful video. I'm already tired of summer we've had 4 days in a row of 90+°. Looking forward to what you teased at the end of the video. It's Frog Watch 2024 🐸 😆
Oh but we’ve only just started with summer 🤣 but I have heard just how hot it is for everyone else at the moment so it is draining. As for the project … all I can say is although I am incredibly excited to do it, I hope it’s not a disappointment as it’s not going to look spectacular whatsoever once I have finished. That’s my cryptic clue for the day 🤣 have a very lovely week ☀️💜😊
Hi Janette, another lovely video and your garden lots wonderful at this time of the year. I particularly love all the water features. And well I was eager for you to give us an update on your pond! As I may have mentioned, I would love a wildlife pond but we have such a high mosquito pressure in the area that I am very worried about creating another habitat for them to breed in. But I will definitely order the pond barrier and give it a try. As the larvae appear in any tiny bit of standing water I have no lack of testing areas around my garden. Thank you so much for the recommendation! Happy gardening from Switzerland 🇨🇭
Good morning Mari and thank you! I can definitely say the pond barrier worked, it cost I think about £15 but I only needed 2-3 drops and needs to be re-applied once a month so it’s going to last me for a very long time. Highly recommend it to you 😊 have a wonderful week ☀️😊
Hello Janette, yeah summer is finally here and it sure arrived with a bang🥵😝. We are in the middle of a heat wave here in the Northeastern US, going on the second week. I sure love your temps, please send them this way. 😂. Look at you go, you must have been so sore after that workout, you are my inspiration 🫶. I’ve never seen that before, an ants nest, great idea to cut back the roots and drown them. I love its new home, great job my friend🙌.Im so sorry about your roses, that’s a shame. I don’t like to use fungicides in my garden either, but for any diseases, either for bushes or roses, I spray them down, I don’t want to lose my prized plants, but I definitely understand your hesitation. You really got so much done in the garden🥳🙌, I feel so lazy after looking at you😂. Have a great week!
Good morning to you my dear Elizabeth!! I’ve been hearing about all your high temperatures over there so hope you’re managing to stay cool 😎 lots of garden friends are telling me they can only garden outside for an hour really early in the morning. I don’t blame you at all spraying your pests on your beloved plants. We spend all our spare money on them and they deserve the best treatment!! I crashed out on Sunday after doing all that gardening 🤣 hope you’re having a great week ☀️😊
🤣🤣 Janette I can imagine you fell asleep before your head hit the pillow😴😴. Definitely staying cool indoors, we have central air so the house is cool but the minute you step outside it’s like being on the sun. A cool down by the end of the week I’m hearing them we need to mow and trim some hedges that grew and deadhead tan dah, you guessed it, roses. I’m so glad that you’ve shown me how to properly do that, I always used to just cut off the spent bloom and never seeking the first 5 leaves down.🤭🤗. Enjoy your week my lovely friend🥰.
Hi Janette garden looks lovely. Well done moving your plant. Can’t wait for next weeks surprise. Happy gardening. Do you follow gardener Ben? He has very good advice regarding roses. X
Hello there and thank you. That blue spruce took forever to move, I only showed a short bit of it 🤣 I don’t know gardener Ben so thank you for telling me because I love finding new garden channels to watch so will look him up definitely. As I just said to another friend in the comments, I hope you’re not disappointed next week … it is to do with the pond but it’s not going to look spectacular when I’ve finished. That’s very cryptic I know 🤣 but I’m so excited to do it. Hope you have a lovely week 😊☀️
I really sympathise with you moving the tree. I've just repotted a big Acer tree. I couldn't pot it on from its huge container, so had to cut it out of container, remove a mass of tangled roots and put in new compost. It took me all day, but so satisfying once it's done. Your Picea is stunning and deserves that prominent place ❤
Hello Julie, that took me far far longer than I showed you- you would have all switched off long before 🤣 we forget when we plant in pots don’t we? Pleased its done though, thank goodness ☀️😊
Your garden looks like a relaxing oasis! I love all the color and texture you have going on...and that pop of yellow with your chair is perfect! Thank you for these tips and for the inspiration! Do you have a parrot that I hear in the background?
Thank you so much for your lovely comments. The squawking is not a parrot 🦜😊 we have really noisy magpies and they are always making a racket. They argue with the pigeons every evening too! 🤣 have a happy week ☀️😊
The garden jobs are never ending aren't they? I couldn't do most jobs without gardening gloves on. I don't know how you do it without them. I have just had to remove some little conifer type plants as they have just died ...dont know why its a mystery. Thanks for the video 😊
Hi Dolly and thanks for watching, I just find gloves annoying and I can’t feel what I’m doing. 2 of my 3 little conifers (the Daisy’s Whites) died too for no reason I can think of. The garden jobs are never ending you’re right. Hope you have a fabulous week ☀️😊
Enjoyed your video. One suggestion for roses is to top dress with compost/ manure once a month. Helps with all rose problems. Also, improve air circulation. Someone suggested plant salvia around them. I find mine look sad after first flush. I let them sulk until late August, when I start working with them again, and they reward me with second flush - that Carrie’s on u til frost!
Hi Sunita, that’s a great tip for the roses and I just googled and you are right! Says salvias help stop black spot as their scent releases sulphur!! That’s amazing and I’ve learned something new today. Thanks so much for that - have a great week 😎😊☀️
BTW, for the ants nest, get a cheap bottle of cinnamon and sprinkle throughout the roots or around where it's been planted. I'm in a subtropical area where my garden is surrounded by sand and ants. I have 3 types of ants in my garden, and it is the black ants that try to eat my rose hips and certain vegetables.
Oh thank you for that tip, I have cinnamon powder so I’ll do that. I was hoping I had drowned them all in the bucket of water but I’ll still put the cinnamon down!! 👍☀️😊
Hello Janette, lovely video, thankyou. Your garden looks soooo pretty. As l mentioned to you before with our Zinnias stories, l did just the same as you, planted them in big tubs and they are in bud now, pity you aren’t round the corner and l could give you a tub, but Essex to Hertfordshire is a bit of a long way for a few Zinnias!😂😂. Next year yours will be brilliant and mine no good probably. Treat yourself to a few in the garden centre 😉Happy gardening
Hello there Chris, I always have absolutely no luck with seeds whatsoever 🤣 oh well! Where in Hertfordshire do you live? Richard’s brother lives in Hutchinson, do you know it? Lovely county to live in. I will do as you say and buy myself some ready-made zinnias 😊 thanks for watching and I hope you’re having a great week ☀️😎
@@TheEnthusiasticGardener Hello Janette, we live in Abbots Langley, near St Albans. I haven’t heard of Hutchinson, might that be a typo? Can’t find it on Google maps, do you mean Hitchin? . I have given you a good excuse to go to the garden centre…….. not that we need one 😬😂😂
Beautiful Janette, I'm just going out 2 do some things myself, I'm just making chicken noodle soup at the moment watching your vlog, oh the frogs will come definitely iv got frogs they live in my water feature some of them are huge, so if I get my pond in a pot I'll get more. Have a lovely week in your garden, its getting warmer at last. ❤xxxx
Mmm chicken noodle soup sounds lovely Helen 😊 very encouraging hearing about your pond and frogs 🐸 wishing you a wonderful week of sunshine at last 😎☀️
@TheEnthusiasticGardener it's funny not got a pond yet, the frogs seem to like my water feature it's a piece of rock from Cornwall with a hole drilled into it so there's a reservoir in it that's where the frogs are, but I'm going to get a pot next year and make a proper pond in it to attract more frogs, so I'm sure you'll get loads with your lovely pond.
Great video again, it will be interesting to see how fast your Picea grows now it’s in the ground. They can get large. Your Juniper looks fine to me, all the new growth is fresh and healthy, it’s just the old leaves/branches that are browned, perfectly normal but a bit unsightly, however your maintenance will deal with that. I found a frog in my garden 2 days ago. In the pond? Of course not, it was in a plastic trough I had collected rain water in! Transferred to the pond but I bet he didn’t stay. We have just had a new fence put up, I had to move lots of plants out of the way, unfortunately I have done my back in painting the fence (the joys of getting old) and cannot get on with finishing the fence and putting the plants back. So annoying.
Hi Mark, so sorry to hear you’ve hurt your back, that’s tough. Do have a nice rest and fence painting is a hell of a task. Ours needs to be done but I just cannot bear the thought. If I had unlimited funds I think I’d invest in the composite fence panels and never have to do it again, but it’s extremely expensive. I’m envious of you … a frog 🐸 👍 you have the magic touch. I know those PICEAs can get enormous, that’s another example of me not considering nature sizes 🤣 oh well, we shall see what happens! Have a lovely week and get a good rest ☀️😊
Your garden is growing so fast. My plants and flowers are starting to finally take off. You certainly accomplished a lot in your garden. It’s looking so great. It’s so hot here. I can only get out early for an hour or so. I’m jumping off topic for a minute but I just wanted to mention something about the foliage in your garden. I just love the contrast between the greens, yellows/golden, and purple shades together. It gives you such a beautiful mosaic touch. Another thing is your three ivy pots that you did some time ago. They still look beautiful! There’s always so much to see in your videos .. oh the 🐜 I think you saved your bush by transplanting it. Soaking it in water worked for sure. I have an ant bed in my oldest fern. It needs moving and separating but I dread it. Another great video Janette with a wealth of good information. I definitely need to see if I can find the treatment for my little wildlife ponds. Have a wonderful week. I’m excited about your one edition. “If you build it, they will come” 🐸
Hello my friend and thanks for your lovely comments. I always remember they say plant green blue red and yellow foliage together in a border so I try to do that. It is colourful, definitely, but I sometimes think that a more toned down look of greens is very restful and peaceful on the eye. Those ivy wreaths have done really well, Mum’s one looks nice too. I’ve heard how hot it is for you right now. Keep cool and have a great week ☀️😊
@@TheEnthusiasticGardener Thank you. Triple digits today. If not for the shade I could not be out because I have asthma. I do love the shades of greens too. I think they each have their place. I use my greens/yellows and purple/reddish in planters together. I love them. I have purple hearts, both green and purple shamrocks, and little plants that look like mini elephants ears and a couple types of ivy in my shady area. I think your garden is so well planned. That's great advice on using the colors of foliage together. I never thought about it. Although I do it. Lol 😂
Thank you so much Carmel and yes it was a very busy weekend in my garden but I’m glad I got it all done. Hope you’re doing well and I wish you a fabulous week ☀️😊
Hello again Janette :) I know we have very different gardening conditions, but I have to tell you that the blue arrow juniper has not worked out for me either. I tried twice. And as a general rule junipers do very well in my area. May I recommend that you look into the Trautman juniper? I don't know if it is available in England but I love it and it does so well for me. Gets wonderful berries. Also, the Gold Cone juniper is a great one. BTW - I had to remove my weeping blue spruce. It was just failing to thrive. I gave it 5 years :(, Lastly, I have globe blue spruce, and that one seems to be doing well...
Hello!!! I will definitely look out for those. I remember your beautiful weeping blue spruce, what a shame that it wasn’t happy, but 5 years is long enough to get established isn’t it? So you can’t say you didn’t try. Have missed our chats, it’s been a while!! 😍🤩😎
What wonderful temperatures. It’s 86 F now at 4:17 AM. Yes, morning! Triple digits for highs this week So true about summer being a maintenance time. It’s difficult for us in the south (u.s.) due to the heat. So my main goal is to keep everything watered. Last year was rough with being in a heatwave and drought.
I’ve heard how extremely hot it is for you all over the pond! You’re right, all you can do is keep things going as much as you can, and watering all the time can be a bind i am sure. You take care and try and keep cool 😎 have a lovely week ☀️😊
@@TheEnthusiasticGardener thank you, I'm definitely going to try. I just watched a short video with Monty Don about watering. It's a debate as to what time of day to water in "summertime". It was very interesting. I love watching him or just reading his articles.
He’s brilliant. I think watering in the morning is better, for me anyway, and that’s because if it’s moist in the evenings then my slugs will have more of a field day than they do normally 🤣
@@TheEnthusiasticGardener lol exactly! I found a 🐌 on my phlox yesterday. Yikes. I relocated him. I do mornings too. He said morning as well or evening if necessary but never in the heat of the day. I personally never spray the entire plant in summer. Yes, gotta love Monty. I've been watching him for years. He had a really good perspective on the Chelsea Flower Show. I loved his take on it. 💦🪻💚
Hi Janette, could you mention where you got your solar water fountain from? I see them advertised a lot but am not sure how good they are. Another Sydney, Australia gardener here.
Hello there Jy and thank you so much for watching all the way from Sydney! The solar fountain was actually a lovely gift so I can’t give you a link I’m afraid. As you know I’ve not had it very long but so far it’s worked really well and I’m very pleased with it. Thanks for watching and I hope you’re having a great week ☀️😊
Hi Marilyn, that’s an interesting thought and I wouldn’t know for sure, but I’ve never had them here before and I’ve just googled and think it’s unlikely because they like high temperatures in the 80s and low humidity, whereas we have only just reached 70 in the last day or so and we have high humidity here. But never say never I guess. I hope not!!!! Thanks for alerting me to the possibility though 😝 hope you’re having a great week 😊😎☀️
great video, love were the tree went. i feel like you will get a lot of frogs. great little pond for them. i just love your garden it's so relaxing. thanks for sharing with us. hope you have a great day!!!
Hello Lily, that is a Nandina and that variety is called “Obsessed” - but all are lovely. It’s evergreen and in Autumn it turns a gorgeous bright red. The leaves are soft and it really looks after itself, I’ve had it there maybe 6 years or so, so my variety must be its full size, others might get bigger I’m not sure. But I’ve never done anything to it, it looks after itself. Fabulous, highly recommended. Hope that helps ☀️😊
You are a busy bee checking off all your maintenance jobs. It feels good when you get on top of it all and I always sleep better. The pond and plants all look very healthy, its nice to hear the sound of water in a garden. Thank you for sharing. 🐞🌻🌱
Thanks so much Jane, yes, really good to get everything done, I hope you have a great week 💜😎
Hi Jeanette 👋
What a beautiful garden you have.
Fab work done in this video a lovely lioking tree🌲. Amazing how tge ants made their nest in the roots. Goid job you saved it 👍
Looking forward to watching more of your videos ❤
Oh yes that took so much longer than I showed, I very nearly gave up and stuffed it back in again 🤣
Great work, Janette! ⭐️ I especially enjoyed your rose pruning tutorial - will definitely take more care next time I do mine!! 😃
My zinnias were a disaster too - they were showing promise until the squirrels started digging them up!! 🐿
Happy gardening!
Thank you 😊
The garden looks amazing! You've done a lot!
Morning Ana and thank you so much! That was a busy weekend for sure! Hope your week is going really well ☀️😊
My heart went out to youhaving to cut down that beautiful rose! I am trying a companion planting for my roses - anything from the allium family is to reduce the blackspot. I started last year and there is definitely much less blackspot. I just cut off the affected leaves and I make sure to clear away all the fallen leaves in Autumn to provent the black spot living in the soil over the winter!
That is such a good idea! I’m sure it’s going to work for you, I must try. Hope you’re having a wonderful week so far ☀️😊😎
Hi Janette, hope you and Richard are well.
Like summer this year I am late to watch your video. In the process of having a new drive being laid, which meant moving plants to my back garden, repositioned a rose which looks sad / limp, I may prune it hoping for new buds later
I enjoyed it, learning how and why to prune roses, anti mosquito fluid and adding iron to the soil, all very interesting and informative.
Also seeds that didn't work out to general potting around...
Take care.
YEITN
Steve
Maybe I need to move to Essex.😊
Your garden is beautiful.
@@TheEnthusiasticGardener I'm so glad to hear that gallant Lancelot is keeping Woodland Courtyard safe.
I enjoyed watching thanks for sharing Janette
Ooh so sorry I missed your comment, it went into my spam section unfortunately. Thanks so much for watching - have a very lovely week 😊🐸
Just drop a couple tadpoles in there 😉
I would if I could find some Lorraine 🤣😊☀️ have a happy week ☀️🤣😊
Hi Janette, what a tough job getting the Piccea Pungens Hoopsil out of the container. 😊
I am forever picking black spot leaves off my roses, it drives me mad 😠.
Very much enjoyed watching this video, you got a lot done!😊
Thanks so much for watching Bob and have a really great week ☀️😊
Good afternoon Janette
Yes,i discovered ants around my holly bush.
Great clean up Janette your garden is looking good
Hello Iris, thank you!!! Have a wonderful week ☀️😊
Hello hello my friend , wow that root was really big .
Hello Max and that took way longer than I showed 🤣 I very nearly gave up and stuffed it back in again 🤣 hope you have a fabulous week 😎☀️
@@TheEnthusiasticGardener that why I said or mentioned before , gardeners won’t leave they plant alone 😂. There’s always changing plans 😊. But I got to say you’re a strong lady , and hard worker .
Aww thanks Max 👍😊
@@TheEnthusiasticGardener Thanks and you also ... !!!
I would love a picea in my garden the color is magnificent and the structure.
The rose info was very helpful especially which five leaf to cut to.
You are five foot 9 wow how tall is Richard ?? Dang I’m a shorty at 5ft 3 😳
Garden looks and sounds so peaceful!
Mosquito Dunks work fabulously without hurting wildlife. Good job on getting all those jobs ticked off your list.
🤣🤣 oh yes the flamingo find was hilarious. And then you find another the next day, hilarious! 😆
@@TheEnthusiasticGardener You did well, I've been tempted to smash or cut the pots to remove those plants reluctant to leave their cosy homes!
That’s a far better and easier option 🤣☀️
Can't wait to see the surprise!❤
I can’t wait to do it!! I hope you’re not disappointed though, it is to do with the pond but certainly nothing that’s going to look spectacular when I’ve finished, but I’m excited about it. Can’t tell you any more 🤫
I am absolutely loving the weather so far 👩🏻🌾
It’s been truly gorgeous hasn’t it Jasmine ☀️ have a happy week ☀️😎😊
Lovely video as usual Janette, I love watching gardeners doing tasks. I learn a lot too 😊🏴
Hey there Pamela and thanks for joining me today. That’s how I learn things too, just watching everyone else 👍 hope you have a fabulous week 😎☀️
You’ve done a lovely job and I do like your moving of your little fountain,it’s looking beautiful 💕
Good morning Joyce and thank you so much, I like the fountain forward a bit more too 😊 have a lovely week ☀️😊
L🌳VELY‼️
Aww how nice of you, thank you 🙏 🤩😎
😀
Hi there Donna and thanks for watching ☀️😊
I remember that fact as it put me off making a little pond for the moment,as they were all saying unless it’s that deep you would get mosquitoes and undesirables 😞
I really hope the mosquito thing you got helps, as it’s a beautiful little pond you made, especially with the fountain ❤
It sounds so hot there!! You stay cool 😎
😎
Oh yes, that’s predictive text for you 🤣 (and me not re-reading before I hit the send button 🤣) I did mean Hitchin 😊
How funny that they seem quite happy already in your water feature 😆👍😊
@@TheEnthusiasticGardener I know.m😅😅🤣
Lol 😂
Wonderful relaxing video but my goodness not for you 😆 I sat down with a cup of coffee ☕️ to watch it. You have such a splendid garden 🌺 🪴🌸 🪴
Thank you so much Carmel and yes it was a very busy weekend in my garden but I’m glad I got it all done. Hope you’re doing well and I wish you a fabulous week ☀️😊
@@TheEnthusiasticGardener You too, have a fabulous week 🌞
Hello again Janette :)
I know we have very different gardening conditions, but I have to tell you that the blue arrow juniper has not worked out for me either.
I gave it 5 years :(,
Lastly, I have globe blue spruce, and that one seems to be doing well...
Hello!!! I will definitely look out for those. I remember your beautiful weeping blue spruce, what a shame that it wasn’t happy, but 5 years is long enough to get established isn’t it? So you can’t say you didn’t try. Have missed our chats, it’s been a while!! 😍🤩😎
Well done the garden looks fab
Hello Chris, thank you and a very happy week to you ☀️😎
Beautiful garden! I really like your wooden cat 😁
Good morning and thank you! I found the cat quite a few years ago at a car boot sale, one of my bargains 👍 hope you have a very lovely week ☀️😊
@@TheEnthusiasticGardener thank you sweetheart .☺ I truly love your channel! 👍
So lovely of you 🙏
What wonderful temperatures.
Do you think your juniper was affected by spider mites?
Hi Sonie and thank you for joining me today 😊 and for your lovely comments. Hope you’re having a great day too ☀️😊😎
22:47 Could you please tell me what kind of plant it is (green-yellow-red shrub). Is it leucothoe?
Hello Lily, that is a Nandina and that variety is called “Obsessed” - but all are lovely. It’s evergreen and in Autumn it turns a gorgeous bright red. The leaves are soft and it really looks after itself, I’ve had it there maybe 6 years or so, so my variety must be its full size, others might get bigger I’m not sure. But I’ve never done anything to it, it looks after itself. Fabulous, highly recommended. Hope that helps ☀️😊
@TheEnthusiasticGardener Thank you, Janette. It's very helpful as I just started to look for plants for my tiny shade garden.
Wash the ants away they hate water.
Hi Carol, that’s what I was hoping! I’m sure I drowned them all in the bucket of water 🤞👍 hope you’re having a great day 💜
