    I remember watching this video when it first came out and wishing so hard that it was longer than 2 minutes!! This is also the video where I learned what saddle stitching was and how it was done.

    this video has a strange ASMR quality about it; i can watch it all day! it's just so nice to watch the craftsman work his way meticulously along the leather stitch by stitch.

    @NinkaPanda It's simple, practice. For the first twelve months as an apprentice saddler all I was only allowed to sew horse and bull halters and if they were not of a standard for sale you risked your job. After 12 months you were allowed to sew dressage bridles and equipment. The only difference in stiching is when doing harness you lock the stich after you put the right hand needle through by lifting the bottom of the left hand loop over the needle to form a knot inside the leather.

    Takes 22 hours of handstitching to make a Kelly Bag. I went to 'Leather Forever' by hermes in London, best expo ever. Learnt so much from Natalie, their craftswomen, and yes, not badly paid. It's France, 6 weeks holiday, 37 hour work week, free health care, and great food....so the 16,000 US it costs is worth it.

  • @DavidWing
    @DavidWing 13 років тому

    Paying for this hand stitching is well worth the price. If one of the stitches is cut or broken, the rest of the stiching will not unravel...you cannot accomplish that with any sewing machine.

      @@mohdsalmanbinshafie7658 The craftsmanship of these brands are overrated. If you give a 15-year-old Vietnamese factory worker (who has been working for 2-3 years) the chance to make one these bags, and give them as much time as is provided here, they likely will display the same craftsmanship.

    Traditional Thai craftman can easily do this or even better. We do crafting long before Hermes was even born. Yeah but if it is a traditional handcrafted product from our people, the price would be like 1$, yet the crafting quality is much better than this.
