By using transparent images you can lay images in a specific order to create compelling artwork.

I enjoyed your tutorial on layers. The example that you chose was helpful in demonstrating how a person can use Gimp to overlay and Combine multiple images or graphic elements created by Gimp tools. Your vocals narrative described your thinking process and objectives so one could imagine themselves creating the new image. Your pace was just right not too rapid not to slow.

Agreed. It's not one of those sped up vids with no narrator, yet it's straight and to the point. A perfect demonstration video.
You make so simple in such a short time, I will try different images for the same effect. Thank you so much. One little moan I find the sound very low.

Hi, i subscribed couple of days ago. Thank you for your amazing videos. I dont have word but LibreOffice and dont know how to mirror text. I need mirror version for printing and trying for 2 hours but dont know hoe to do it. Do you know?
I don't think you can do that in libre office, but you can do this using GIMP, try UA-cam search, Gimp mirror text effect...
@@dcpwebdesigners Thank you. Will look it up.

Thank you for this tutorial!
I have a question I couldn't find a solution for yet.
If you have a typography/text poster with different font combinations and sizes, each a separate layer; that you created in a smaller size like 8x10" 300 dpi. But you would like a larger 16x20" 300 dpi size of it, which would require an upscaling of everything, without losing resolution quality or having to recreate the whole thing manually, which would be hard to do. I couldn't find a solution in gimp for this.
I tried to convert it to PSD file, but the text was not editable in Photoshop CS6, no matter what I tried.
This procedure is so easy to do in Canva Pro, to group and enlarge your texts in your posters. How can it be done with these two softwares, Gimp and CS6?
Can you please advise anything concerning this? Thank you very much!
It would be better to create the artwork in vector format using ink scape
@@dcpwebdesigners thank you for the tip! 👍

My 2.10 doesn't have tabs on the left or right
hi, is it possible to convert a selection to a layer mask ? thanks
Yes, make a selection, copy to a new layer, then use that new layer as the layer mask.

I was hoping for an explanation of Multiply, dissolve , dodge etc.. Not bad but missold.. and really for the moon, wouldn't crop to content have saved a step ? and I guess using the delete key instead of Ctrl and X would be easier too.. Fun though thanks..
Ok thanks
Can you explain when you white out along the rocket then cut away? I don't understand the whiting out part...how did that separate the rocket from the background? Thanks!
Step 1 outline the rocket
Step 2. Fill in only the rocket, when you fill in the rocket you are giving gimp information about your selection
Step 3 confirm to make the selection
Watch this tutorial which is specifc about foreground select tool in gimp ua-cam.com/video/wY7wsxUC8yY/v-deo.html
cani pic be made bigger i know that the pixels will stretch? thanks
Yes it can but you need to make the canvas bigger as well

How do you get all the options cause im so stuck
Make sure you install latest gimp and gimic plugins
I don't understand how you are doing any of this. Every time I try to paste more than one thing onto a background, the first layer that I pasted is automatically merged with the background. I have tried everything to fix this, but it still happens. Why would this feature even exist?? Like, who makes images this way? I hope you can explain how to change this, because I'm on the verge of uninstalling this extremely frustrating program. Photoshop is WAY easier to use, but I can't afford it, so I thought I'd try Gimp. I can't even make more than one layer!
No idea why you are having a problem as I have used Gimp for years without any issue. Try uninstalling the version you have and download the latest version and see if that helps... May be you pressed a key combination which activated the error you are getting but I have never had that issue...
I probably did exactly that, tbh. I think I figured out what I was doing wrong. I watched your video again, and noticed that you had GIMP set to something called GEGL Operations. Not sure what that is, but I found it, and now I can do proper layers.
Well, apparently it only worked e one time, because I can't get it to work again. At 2:27, see how it looks in the lower right hand corner? Well, my Layers panel doesn't look like that. It has the Background layer at the bottom, and then above that it's a symbol like two rectangles overlapping and it says Floating Layer selection, which is the first layer that I pasted to the background. When I paste a second layer, that floating selection merges/flattens to the background, so now I can't move it. When I paste a third layer, the second one dies the same thing. I hope that makes sense. If anyone has any idea what I'm doing wrong, please let me know. I just don't know how to fix this.
@@ElveeKaye Hey there,
I don't know if you're still having this problem, but I suspect that it's because you're doing everything on one layer.
Once you have your background, you can create a new layer by going to the menu at the top of your screen and selecting Layer > New Layer. There will probably be a key shortcut listed next to New Layer, but the key shortcut varies, whether you're using Mac, Windows, etc. - so I can't provide it here.
By default, the new layer will be the size of your overall image, so just click "OK" to create the layer. Once you have done so, you will be able to paste to this layer, instead of directly to the background.
By the way: When you first copy and paste the image, it will appear as the "Floating Layer" you have described. This allows you to easily do things like resize or move the layer before permanently pasting it. Once you're happy with how it looks, you will want to go to the top menu and Layer > Anchor Layer. Alternatively, you can go to the Layers tab (the lower-right on the screen in this video), select the floating layer, and then click the small anchor icon in the tool tray; it will do the same thing as the top menu option.
If you don't anchor the layer yourself, it will automatically anchor itself when you paste something else to the same layer.
I hope this helps. Happy editing!
Too fast, difficult to hear and the subtitles don't seem to make much sense unfortunately
Try this better tutorial ua-cam.com/video/zv86BBRmB8o/v-deo.html
This really sucks , not your tutorial , but the fact that I can't find a tutorial on how to take a person from one picture and put them on a horse in another picture , maybe gimp can't do this and i'll have to revert to photoshop , and all I do find are all these little partial vids , very very VERY annoying
Photoshop is better than Gimp but Gimp is also powerful, just takes practice...
The easiest way to do this is with the Foreground Select tool. I just recently watched this tutorial about it: ua-cam.com/video/uhRGix-x5Mg/v-deo.html (not mine); I hope it proves helpful.
