I am 82 now. My parents took me to my 1st game at the Baseball ground when I was 8yrs old It is heart warming to watch this amazing team beating the Arsenal
The best team Derby county ever had thanks to Brian Clough and Peter Taylor and not forgetting the great Dave McKay. I was so blessed to be a football mad teenage boy who got to see these truly wonderful players rule the top flight of the English football league for more than half a decade. The first season derby county were promoted to the English first division they hammered all the top clubs of the day 3 4 and 5 nothing. The team and management were all one big happy family and the baseball ground was were it happened. The team of such quality and fair play never to be found again. Thank you all for such wonderful times.
I remember this horrible week as an Arsenal fan- after this match Arsenal lost at home 3-0 to Norwich City in the league cup after a Graham Paddon hatrick. Still finished 2nd to Liverpool in the league that season although losing to Sunderland in the FA cup semis was rough.
Hugh Johns' broadcasting made everything wonderful. I always looked forward to the games that he was on. This game in particular. Brian Cluogh teams always played great, and as tough as they were they always played within the rules and fair. He would not have tolerated unsportsmanship from his teams. RIP to Great Hugh Johns and the Great Brian Clough and Peter Taylor.
What a team!!!!!! Many of the finest players in one super team humiliating Arsenal and giving them an example of how to score. Hinton was the greatest dead ball, specialist. He made nearly all five goals. 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍💪💪💪💪💪
I think he was one of the first players to wear coloured boots, if you count White as a colour! Only problem was that with the state of the pitch you could not always tell what colour they were!
Hinton outstanding in the superb league winning team of Clough and Taylor. He won 3 England caps between 1962-4, but on that form maybe he should have won more. Reigning double winners Arsenal defence and Wilson at sixes and sevens.
Used to support derby as a very young boy for some reason even though I’m from Essex!!! Changed my allegiance to West Ham at 8 years old, but still have a soft spot for the rams.
@@matthewturner2803 all the boys were West Ham supporters in my class at junior school. When West Ham were in the 1975 fa cup against Fulham there was a big buzz in the school and I decided to change. Just a glory seeker I’m afraid, if only I knew what the future held😂😂😂😂
Gladys where’s your handbag? Shame most Derby fan didn’t appreciate how good he was till he left. Would love to see a vid of his testimonial, atmosphere was phenomenal 😀
Went to see my sheffield utd team at baseball ground I was about 16 lost 3 0 in fa cup we had tony Currie in our side. No answer to this great derby team. I also got lost after game trying to find my coach. Bumped into the derby fans and ended up with a black eye. But it was a great day out even though we lost and I got a punch in the eye. Up the blades.
Wilson is on record for saying the proudest moment in his footballing career was keeping goal for Scotland. That he truly wished he was in West Germany and Argentina as our star keeper.
@@Kelly14UK I think it was his only chance of international football. England were strong in that position Banks, Bonetti, West. Shelton and Corrigan were coming through. The rule change worked well for him. Although I never thought I'd see the day when Scotland had a player whose middle name was primrose
This Derby team is long forgotten by most fans today but they were pretty damn good in my opinion if Clough and Taylor had stayed they would have dominated English and possibly European football for many seasons to come. I was a huge fan of Kevin Hector while Todd and Mc Parland were as good a central defensive pair as you could get .
What a game I was there, I remember seeing a female Arsenal fan crying outside saying ' we won the double last year, I cannot believe this has happened!'
if they counted assists in those days how many would Alan Hinton create in a season ? more real ones than the fantasy figures given out for today's players.
Derby had a great side.I'm Arsenal supporter and remember watching this.Alan Hinton what a fantastic player.Just wondering did he ever get picked for England? Thanks for the painful memory Ha Ha.Cheers Jim
I was there. Wonderful 70s footy. With mud too. Mud is rare nowadays at football. Mud, mud, glorious mud.. bring back the mud, just grass & mud. No plastic. Ban it.
I was there to see that match ,that was "The" Derby County, you don't see them play like that these days, if they took a leaf out that team of yesterday Derby wouldn't be in League One, they do there best I know but they just don't have that final punch.
Was this the game where Bob Wilson said "Who are Derby County I don't know them." Cloughie's reply after the game was " I bet Wilson knows who bloody Derby County are now "......
for the first 40 seconds of the video, i thought it was Arsenal that going to blast 5 goals against Derby when Charlie George got 2 glaring chances to score
+dsk71 The commentator was Huw Johns, who usually did the Midlands clubs as ITV was regionalised (would have been ATV then, I think). A very distinctive voice: 'One-nudding-Birmingham Siddy'.

I was at this game, It was a long journey home to London but the pain has eased now :) We were lucky to get 0 : )
I miss the old Baseball Ground. You could tell this match was early in the season, there was still some grass on the pitch.
Love that comment 👍👍
As a Derby i am biased, but Alan Hinton must be one of the best crossers and dead ball specialists the game has seen
yeah agree 100% gladys was sum player for sure
later on leighton james was decent for us has well
@@thomasodonnell8088 Gladys , yes 👍
Loved Hinton. Right foot, left foot, bobbly pitches! Got my first pair of white Top Dogs in 1972 (even though I could kick with neither feet).
MacFarland, Todd, Gemmill, Nish, Hinton, Hector ..... say no more.
The wonderful Hugh Johns doing the commentary, very special footage all round :)
I was born in 81 but interacted with a few of these legends. They were / Are fantastic men. The clue is "men" not boys like today's Shambles.
Total agreement. They looked and behaved like true adults(men). People of today are a true disgrace to humanity

I used to see Roy McFarland in the park Farm Centre at Allestree a lot .
I hope he is still going well .
Wonderful centre half .
I swear I saw Nigel clough walking his dog on Allestree park a couple of years ago
I wasn't even Born but warms my heart watching this.

Hinton's delivery into the box was outrageous.
Allan Hinton with white boots, what a pioner!

great to see this, unfortunately living in the Granada area, they didn't show this! That was a really good Derby team! Thanks for the upload!
TV Times regional. I came under STV
Kevin Hector my Hero would be nice to know my Dad was there. The Glory Days of the Baseball Ground.

Well, they were no longer the reigning double winners here - Derby themselves had won the League Championship in 1972.

Kevin Hector what a Player...
Сложно поверить,но "Дерби"тогда был очень сильной командой.Браво.
Hugh Johns commentating on the game instead of lecturing the viewer like so many of todays commentators
Yes his voice always reminds of " Star Soccer " on Sunday afternoons as a kid. No rip off subscription fees for Sky in those days.
Sadly all we have is influencers now
They don’t stop talking now. You used to get a bit of breathing space. Too much analysis.

The expression on McLintock's face at 4.05 says it all. DCFC when days of old, yep, times were very good indeed.

A very Scottish goalkeeping performance from Bob Wilson.

Emmanuel C. Oui, Wilson a joué deux fois pour l’Ecosse (en 1971)
He’s from Chesterfield
My god I loved that team 🐏
MASSIVE RESPECT TO ALL MY FELLOW RAMS FANS!!!!

Wilson is on record for saying the proudest moment in his footballing career was keeping goal for Scotland. That he truly wished he was in West Germany and Argentina as our star keeper.
By Argentina he was done. In West Germany we only conceded one goal in 3 matches. I think David Harvey did a good job
