    Those "Surprise" envelopes were recycled prize envelopes from the early weeks of Tony Barber's run before the golden wheel was brought back

      @@7120Magnum I used to have a 1997 episode on tape which featured the surprise wedge (nobody landed on the Surprise in the episode), and I'm pretty sure the surprise envelopes were square-shaped in 97

    9:29 Bankrupt, one of the last times with the old sound used since 1981, as they changed the sound of the bankrupt wedge later that year around October or November 1998

      Sounds similar, but was actually changed in 1996 when the show moved to Sydney. The original sounded more muffled. The newer one introduced when the show moved to Sydney was just the same used in the New Zealand show, but lower pitch.

      @@7120Magnum I always used to think the Surprise sound effect was changed in the first half of 1998, before the "save-state" was reintroduced, as it was in that episode where the man won it in round 1 and it was the Proton

      @@JamesJimmaHarding I’d been led to believe the new Surprise and Bankrupt sounds and the securing of money was all done together in November 1998, but looks like July 98 was when the securing of money was brought back following the week of live shows. I definitely remember hearing the new Bankrupt in late 98 and thinking they must’ve changed it back after a bit because I’d hear the old one again - 6 year old me didn’t understand that they broadcast repeats over Christmas.

      @@brendanhartzer5712 I reckon you’d be right. It’d be like 1996 - they taped 5 weeks worth of shows which had to last through the Olympics and beyond and then when they returned afterwards for the second round of recording they’d changed back the theme music and brought back the golden wheel.

      @@cityboydavid7745 great question the rumour and innuendo as it that prior to the start of the Tony Barber era Channel Seven Management we’re keep changing the revamp format that includes a revamp Bonus Round to something like the USA version with 5 prizes hold by Adriana the contestant picks an envelope and the prize is revealed by Tony it didn’t last long and Channel Seven did listen to the fans after a few week by bringing back the Golden Wheel for the Bonus Round along with the return of the 1995/1996 theme prior to the move to Sydney.

    Wow, looks like this was a specific era of the game where the production design and format were altered. Obviously didn't last long - no other episode I've seen looks or played out like this.

    • @7120Magnum
      @7120Magnum Рік тому

      The set on this episode had been in place since the move from Adelaide to Sydney in July 1996. The format here was back to how it was before the move to Sydney barring the quiz at the beginning of round 1 and the “continuous” sequence from 1 player to the next. This set in my opinion was the best in the show’s history, with the altered set from August to November 2003 coming a very close second.

      From 1996 to 1998 when the show moved to Sydney control of the Wheel in Round 1 was decided with a general knowledge question that’s why there’s buzzers there.

    • @RTransportGuy
      @RTransportGuy Рік тому

      The Buzzers were brought back for the 2004 season and first month of 2005 (but the game was called a 'Flip Up' where the contestants had to solve the puzzle on a computerised puzzle board) when Oemcke took over from Elliott. The 'Flip Up' game was retained when Emdur took over from Oemcke for the final season (late 2005/2006).
