I've wanted to switch from membrane to mechanical for a while now and since I'm still learning about mechanical keyboards, I heard about this one and how it was budget friendly and this review was it. Awesome review!
I'm looking at the newest comments, and I'm just seeing a lot of the newer ones having hearts. I just love how Betty is still reading her new comments on an older video! I just bought the newer model of the RK61, and I should get it soon. I will return when I get the keyboard.
Watched your video. Went out and bought the RK61 today for around $40. I got the white one with brown switches. And i must say, so far i love it! The longer keys seem to be really well stabilised on my unit. little to no rattle anywhere. Love the vibrance on the LEDs, although i kinda wish they were brighter. Been using it in wired and BT mode for the past 4 hours, and I'm pleasantly surprised at how responsive the BT connection is with my 2020 Mac Mini (the 2020 intel mac mini is infamous for its shoddy bluetooth, and my unit is a particularly fucked up one) Ive ordered a set of white PBT keycaps online already and ill be switching over to them once they arrive. again, cheers for the review and keep up the amazing work!
lil update after using this for a full work day - works great on my mac. For some reason it identifies as "Apple USB Device" which made me lol. It *claims* to be using bluetooth 5.1, which i find hard to believe since my built in BT receiver is BT4.0 (lol) buuut after almost 8 hours of using it over BT, I'm glad to report that I've had literally zero connection dropouts (thats rare for me using the apple BT keeb). Digging the RGB. Ive got almost all my macros remapped to work with the 60% layout already. Tried the official software on my windows machine. very 90s shitty UI, but I love the ability to customise the RGB per key. Unfortunately, it seems like i can't use the keyboard shortcut to increase backlight brightness once I've set a lighting layout using the software. I plan on adding some foam to the inside tomorrow, not that my particular unit needs it very much tbh, theres VERY little pinging.
So I've had some time to break the keyboard in. I found it suuuper annoying that the keyboard kept defaulting to having the arrow keys on the top layer every time i switched the board off and back on. I tried changing this behaviour with the included software and found it impossible to change those particular keys (alt gr, app, rt ctrl, slash). SOOOOO I just ended up flipping the behaviour of the keys on macOS through karabiner. Works like a charm now. Oh and just a couple of things I've noticed - 1. changing the backlight brightness using the RK software fucks with the on-board backlight controls until you turn the board off and on again. 2. I am very aware that QC on these cheapo boards are absolute trash but thank fuck the board I received has surprizingly stable bluetooth! Of course theres there regular bluetooth lag, but considering how atrocious the lag on my other bt peripherals are on this machine, I'm very happy. 3. I really wasnt digging the RK logo on the front. Ended up taking it off with q tips and a lil bit of nail polish remover. worked like a charm. 4. the stock keycaps have a slightly frosted shinethrough. Ive found that the diffusion is kinda necessary for the RGB to actually look good. If you guys are getting custom shinethrough keycaps, make sure that the transparent bits are diffused/frosted. 5. as much as I'm digging the board, keep in mind that the actual case is made from ABS plastic, and it will get scratched to high hell and back. I think this is going to be my last update, unless I find something weird or quirky about the board. again, thank you Betty for recommending the board, you guys do some awesome work on this channel!
Hello there! Just wanna say thanks to your channel I discovered this keyboard and it is my favourite keyboard ever! It is so underrated and compared to the Keychron K6 hot swappable which I got around the same time (i only discovered RK after I ordered my Keychron), I was totally blown away by this in terms of budget, built and typing/usability experience. I love that it is compatible for Windows and Mac as well.
The keyboard is not the best but after I put new stabilizers and lubed everything n put in gateron silvers and it’s the best keyboard EVER and got sm new key caps!
First time mechanical keyboard user here. I just got the red switches keyboard for office typing but I am spending it back and get the brown switches. The red causes me to make lots of mistakes because it is really fast and smooth. I figured out that I like the tactile feel on keyboards because it alerts me that I have pressed a specific key.
The keyboard Im currently using is being reviewed. Yeah I also got surprised that the stabilizers are lubed. You wouldn't see that in any boards. The budget 60% mech kb 🔥
This keyboard is really good. I got it for my birthday and it's amazing. But there is a bit of delay when gaming on Bluetooth. I personally think Bluetooth is very good for maybe working/writing. But wired is best for gaming.
Coming back to these reviews over and over while I try and decide whether to keep this or the Redragon k530...even though they're both standard 60% the keys are every so slightly to the left on the Redragon and it makes such a difference, so many mistypes! 😳
I have had the rk61 for a few years. Wanted to get a second kb for my home office (I keep work and personal systems separate so needed a second kb). Got the reddragon, and had to return it. I just had all sorts of issues with it not recognizing key strokes. Replaced it with a newer model of the rk61 than the one I had.. and I love it.
Thanks Betty! I was looking for a budget keyboard that doesn't sound too loud and I unknowingly entered the space of custom keebs and I got interested, but I don't think I'll be making my own anytime soon because it costs a lot. RK should sponsor you cause you just made me buy this keyboard 😂
There is another RK keyboard that's worth reviewing - RK 96 - almost full size (96%) that has factory lubed switches, stabilizers, silencer foam inside and now for sale for 63.99 (and can connect via type c, type a or wirelessly), it's just what is needed for people like me who don't want to mess with keyboard just yet but want to first get something decent out of the box, and it is really good quality product for this price (free magnet hand rest included!). I just bought one, so nice comparing to those regular mechanical keyboards you can try at Best Buy.
the new updated board the arrow keys are active, and only require shift + uparrow to activate the question mark, so it acts like a regular keyboard ;> the forward slash u still need to press function + uparrow
can i just say that you are so underrated for the amazing high-quality content you put out >< honestly!! i'm particularly new to this keyboard thing and i've decided buy this keyboard and settle seriously down after carelessly buying a cheap keyboard not knowing that they had blue switches 😭 and i have been looking around youtube trying to find informational reviews and so far i only found yours! thank you sm for the in-depth reviews you upload, you're basically now my to-go youtube channel when it comes to mechanical keyboards!
I’m looking to buy this keyboard for Christmas I am looking for a mechanic 60% keyboard this is my first 60% and mechanical so is the rk61 a good place to start or do you have any other ideas?
Just bought the Kludge K61 on the Kludge website, it was on sale for $47 with tax and free shipping. That's an insane price for a quality wireless mechanical keyboard. I do wish I had gotten the K61 Pro but it wasn't on the RK Gaming website. I didn't want the Pro for the RGB, I'd just set it to blue anyway, but I wanted the aluminum chassis for the rigidity. Oh, and the one I got does have hot swappable key switches. I'm guessing they've changed that since the two years this review was done. P.S. Blue switches are the best! [Ducks for best switch fight]
Honestly I’m going to get this board for my second keyboard thanks for this awesome review I live in New Zealand with is actually twice the price so this is about 100$ although lucky for me it’s on sale for 50$ so that’s awesome keep up the great videos!
I just got this board and really happy with it for the price. However it definitely doesn’t sound like the dreamy hollow I am longing for. I am wondering what would be the easiest mods to improve the sound of this board? Thanks
First you should start by looking into lubing the stabilizers and switches. The switches that come with the RK61 aren’t the best, if you want your keyboard to really sound great, try looking into some other switch options. The stabs (stabilizers ) that come with the RK also aren’t the best, but not the worst. So could opt in for some Durock Stabilizers. Also try going to your local dollar store and buy any type of foam, putting foam in the case really does help with sound-dampening. These are just the basics, there’s a ton of other things you could do, if you’re a newer member of the mechanical keyboard community, try looking at videos about making your rk61 sound better. Hope this helps!
just the pcb i bought for my custom almost cost this much, super value and even has 1 layer. Id buy this , desolder, put foam + lube switch/stabs and band aid.
This is probably the most informative and in-depth review of the RK68 keyboard. Most of the special functions of this keyboard weren't even mentioned by other UA-cam reviewers. Thanks for doing this review and we look forward to watching more reviews from this channel. If possible please review the new keyboards from RK, which are the RK837 and the RK855. Thanks.
Good review and an often-overlooked keyboard. It's not going to impress an enthusiast but it's great for the cost. I just picked up the "pro" model with aluminum case and PBT keycaps. I lubed the stabilizers, added case foam and tape modded the PCB. It's not exactly a 'thock' maker but I'm pleased with it. I may change the switches but maybe not. I'm not offended by them. The "pro" model comes with Gateron switches (brown in my case) and is hot swappable. The "pro" model is only $63 on Amazon and well worth the few extra dollars. Standard (without hot swap PCB) is currently $50. The hot swap PCB and full RGB in the standard plastic case is $55. If anyone is getting the plastic case model, I would highly recommend spending the extra $5 for the hot swap PCB.
@Wxrrst huh ok then, i didnt really do much research. The video said it was not hot swappable. My dad bought me a red dragon dragonbourne instead and its pretty good for my first keyboard and its hot swappable. I will likely get akko lavenders lol
I picked up this keyboard, rgb version (which also has a dongle and 2.4ghz wireless as well as Bluetooth), cost me £55. So impressed, picked this up as a make do until I could get a better one but I think I’m keeping this and kidding it. Really like it
Been trying to choose between RK61 and the GK61. They're both great, so I've got no clue which one I should pick xD Great video though :) Keep up the great work!
Depending on whether you go with GK61 optical or non-optical, but generally stick to the GK. This board comes without hot-swap ability and in house RK switches which have far less long term reviews than Gateron ones. If you get optical GK61, the options are limited but they are said to be smoother switches than mechanical counterparts. Unless Bluetooth is a game-breaker, even though this board will have slow response times and only 6key roll-over, then sure go with this one.
Are tactile switches really just reserved for slower/softer typists? I've tried tactile switches in the past and I can confidently say that I can't really notice their clicks.
what about the 60% Mechanical Gaming Keyboard, E-Yooso Z-88 with Blue Switches, Cyan LED Backlit, Compact 81 Keys Hot Swappable for Mac, PC, White and Silver this keyboard is fire
My daily driver for a while now for coding (together with an RK71 for gaming) both with blue switches & modified with pudding keycaps to make the RGB shine more and a type-C white coiled cable (I don't use bluetooth). Glad to see I'm not the only one to like it, though I must admit I prefer the USB-C left location on the RK71. Shame they don't have also macOS keys. Great video and as always, love from France.
I don’t know which one do i choose RK61 or GK61 or DK 63 I’m going to use it for gaming and writing a lot so i need it to be stabilized So which one is the better?
I'm typing this comment with my now owned RK61. It's insanely smooth, even with the stock switches. The stabs on the shift and enter are really good and silent. Now, if you mind, I will be doing a keebord test Spacebar: Keys: a;lskdfja;lsdfjk;alksdjf;laksjdf.z,mxcnv.z,xcnmvz,xcmvnz.,xcmnvqpwoieuroqwieruqoweiruqowieru Stabs: Thanks Betty for the advice, this was really worth it!
My ISO RK61 came with Outemu Brown switches. Clear top, white bottom, no injection molding marks on the top of the stem. Also mine has considerable amounts of plate ping which I haven't been able to fix yet.
Yeahh i switched mine with gateron reds and I gotta say i like them better then blues and I got white hyperx and it shine like a light when I sleep lmao
I was planning to upgrade my current mech keyboard, as my old one has weird (fake??) Browns which feel like I shoved them into sand or something. Really helpful!
Hey! I bought this after watching many reviews (including this). In real it actually makes less noise compared to in videos. In real it's more quiet. or put your ear close to the board. btw I rate it 5/5. PS Thank You! Switch and Click.
I needed I new keyboard that I wanted to mod that was hotswappanle and I was about to buy the other $50 board but I liked the way you talked about this one and it looks good. I was also looking for a new 60% keyboard and I think thisnis it. Right now have the red dragon k552 but since it isn't hotswapable, I can't change its red switches to glorious pandas. Thank you so much for this video, and if you didn't make this I probably would have wasted a lot of time looking for a keyboard like this, or this. Thank you!
I have the 2018 rk61 ( not hot swap )and I found that you don't need to hold FN and Shift instead using just shift works. Idk if it's the same with the latest one though
Biggest flaw for me personally is the arrow keys. I write for a living and having the up arrow, and / and ? all on the same key doesn't work. I navigate often using the arrow keys... so having to switch the key layers and use fn just isn't feasible. I feel like this layout is problematic for a lot of people who would use it for work (developers, writers, researchers, Systems engineers, IT Techs, etc.). Also the arrow keys are a weird non standard size, so if you want to swap out your keycaps you'll have a hard time finding arrow keys for it. I ended up returning it. It's too bad, I really loved the size and the quality of the board for the price is excellent. Not and issue if you're gaming... but I think the rk68 would be a better alternative if you're using this keyboard for work too.
Hey switch and click! I really hope you reply to this comment because I need some help! Should I purchase the rk61 in white or in the Christmas colors? Although they are the same, they both are a little different! Could you help me?
Hello, nice video! I just wanted to ask, on Amazon it says that it’s hot swappable. You said it wasn’t, but I’m just curious. Is this version just an older version without it?
after 3 years of advance tech, how does this one compare to some low end like ilovbee 61? It have the similar fn ctrl to push 3 layers (F keys, del 9 keys, media layers) and the stabilizers are also lubed. Plus it is also hot swap-able with 5 pin config! Would you think it is superior?
Hello, I'm currently searching for a keyboard and I saw this one in promo and I think it's really good at a affordable price, BUT it's been 2 years since this keyboard has been put on the market, do you think there's better keyboard at this price now ? (For a total beginner In custom keyboard and the one available now on Amazon is hot swappable )
Not to mention, the RK61 pairs with 3 devices and swaps between them easily. It takes to modding very well too. Once you lube the stabs and foam the case, it sounds really good
Yeah. Only problem I'm facing with it is that the case is non standard, so as of yet no one sells alternative ones, so you can't mod the case (unless you want to dye it. Getting an aluminium case is a no go tho)

Been trying to choose between RK61 and the GK61. They're both great, so I've got no clue which one I should pick xD
Great video though :) Keep up the great work!
Thanks! I would pick this one because wireless option :)
Unless Bluetooth is a game-breaker, even though this board will have slow response times and only 6key roll-over, then sure go with this one.
you should also look into the dk61. It’s hot-swappable, has a better build than both of them and comes stock with PBT keycaps
Epomaker GK61x. Hotswappable. Can get Bluetooth version. Comes with Double shot PBT keycaps.

IM SO HAPPY I BOUGHT THIS KEYBOARD AND WASNT SURE IF IT WAS GOOD AND NOW I AM HAPPY AND NOW I CANT WAIT FOR IT TO BE SHIPPED
I got this on sale for $38, this is my first real mechanical keyboard and I really like it.
what site and is it still on sale. Can you please let me know asap because I only have 40 bucks to buy it 😭
@@herzy7106 I think the website is called Banggood that's where I got mine the other day. I bought it for £38 (UK).
@@mny3i ok thanks I’m US but hopefully I can find it
As far as I know RK switches and Keychron's own Keychron-branded switches are both made by Huano.
Are tactile switches really just reserved for slower/softer typists? I've tried tactile switches in the past and I can confidently say that I can't really notice their clicks.
For both? I type really fast and heavy and love tactile
Hi there! Can you please do a tutorial on how to lube the switches and stabilisers without removing them?😅
what about the 60% Mechanical Gaming Keyboard, E-Yooso Z-88 with Blue Switches, Cyan LED Backlit, Compact 81 Keys Hot Swappable for Mac, PC, White and Silver this keyboard is fire
Thanks so much for the insight. I also prefer the cable on the left
Hey there, which one is better between rk61 and rk71? Been contemplating for the past few days and still can't decide which one to buy :)
Coming in from the distant future of 2022, this board is still great and now comes with hot swappable switches
Amazing video!!! But to see you this quiet scares me😅
What do you think about Drevo seer pro? I can't find much videos since its was newly released lately. Thanks !
Haven't used it but it looks nice
They are actually hot swappable I have had my rk61 for 3 years now and changed switches lots of times and keycaps
Please try the last version of RK61, It's Really cool.
I don’t know which one do i choose RK61 or GK61 or DK 63
I’m going to use it for gaming and writing a lot so i need it to be stabilized
So which one is the better?
Rk61 would be my pick, sounds the best
im getting the hot swappable version and im so excited! im also getting new keycaps and the akko cs lavender switches :D
ill be getting the holy panda switches, but i think ill stick to the standard keycaps, i have the rk68 not the 61
Yesterday I bought this keyboard on Amazon for 60 bucks.
Same. This keyboard is awesome
Same, it's good. Can't get the software to work tho, probably since it's so new
I bought this kb for less than $40
I'm typing this comment with my now owned RK61. It's insanely smooth, even with the stock switches. The stabs on the shift and enter are really good and silent. Now, if you mind, I will be doing a keebord test

Thanks Betty for the advice, this was really worth it!
My ISO RK61 came with Outemu Brown switches. Clear top, white bottom, no injection molding marks on the top of the stem. Also mine has considerable amounts of plate ping which I haven't been able to fix yet.
thanks im planning on getting this but the hot swap version and the reveiw was great!
I got one with Blue switched comes with Huano switches.
I just got the same thing today except it was a g68 and I was shocked at how good it was, only for 50$!
the content on this channel is so amazing. also please review kemove 61
I think I already have
I bought this two days ago and bought some Akko rose reds and it was my first non membrane keyboard and I love it
Ordered mine yesterday and it’s coming Saturday, I’ll give you guys an update when it comes
did it arrive yet
@@lukiepookie3271Sure did
@@lukiepookie3271 It’s super good and I love it

The expression on face in thumbnail is 😂
the browns that come with it have a ton of leaf scratch it’s unbearable so i just swapped em with gateron yellows and it sounds and feels amazing
Yeahh i switched mine with gateron reds and I gotta say i like them better then blues and I got white hyperx and it shine like a light when I sleep lmao
Nice review!
i hope you can you do review for Royal Kludge RK987 soon.
I think it is bluetooth 4.0, because in the description of Ali Express it mentions to have 10 meters of range.
For anyone wondering, it is now hot-swappable 😁
Plz sent link cuz when I found the hotswap version it has no rgb
I'm in the uk bruh
Amazon works
i actually love the ice blue colour
Mine arrived tomorrow and I’m super excited
I was planning to upgrade my current mech keyboard, as my old one has weird (fake??) Browns which feel like I shoved them into sand or something. Really helpful!
i've used this same keyboard for 2 years and as long as u clean it occasionally it stays perfectly fine
Bro amazing! I used this keyboard currently. I would totally recommended for people on a budget.
Can you use it wired if you but but wireless?
Buy*
Hey! I bought this after watching many reviews (including this). In real it actually makes less noise compared to in videos. In real it's more quiet. or put your ear close to the board. btw I rate it 5/5. PS Thank You! Switch and Click.
I just ordered one and this will be my first 60% keyboard, im not sure on how to use the legends like(~!?.,+etc)
You should make a store for all the keyboards you have
tysm i bought it because i remembered this video once i had enough money!
Thank you!
Very helpful. Great videos. Keep it up 🙌🙌
Thanks so much
When i watched this my brain said is this Betty…? Because present Betty is really energetic and in this one shes more calm and quite
Getting it tomorrow I’m excited
Exciting!
I have the 2018 rk61 ( not hot swap )and I found that you don't need to hold FN and Shift instead using just shift works. Idk if it's the same with the latest one though
The description says it’s hot swappable
@Switch And Click thanks for liking my comment I’m you inspired me to build keyboards
Excellent review as usual!
Thanks again!
i am using an RK89 right now
Biggest flaw for me personally is the arrow keys.
Y can buy rk 68 with arrows or rk84 with even more buttons
Hey switch and click! I really hope you reply to this comment because I need some help! Should I purchase the rk61 in white or in the Christmas colors? Although they are the same, they both are a little different! Could you help me?
Hello, nice video! I just wanted to ask, on Amazon it says that it’s hot swappable. You said it wasn’t, but I’m just curious. Is this version just an older version without it?
Did u buy this from that specific link in the description? I want to get it but the reviews put me off
I swear to god if I see another RK61 I will scream my lungs out
I got this keyboard because I got into the macanical keyboard sean and this is just awsome
Hey, please do a review on the RK 61 Plus.
after 3 years of advance tech, how does this one compare to some low end like ilovbee 61? It have the similar fn ctrl to push 3 layers (F keys, del 9 keys, media layers) and the stabilizers are also lubed. Plus it is also hot swap-able with 5 pin config! Would you think it is superior?
i thoght the rk 61 comes with the keycap puller and the switch puller but why it only comes with the keycap puller?
Hello, I'm currently searching for a keyboard and I saw this one in promo and I think it's really good at a affordable price, BUT it's been 2 years since this keyboard has been put on the market, do you think there's better keyboard at this price now ? (For a total beginner In custom keyboard and the one available now on Amazon is hot swappable )
i lubed every single key and im happy but the spacebar sounds highpitch but no rattle
Hi Betty! I hope you also take a look at the RK61 pro which has an aluminum case.
i have rk61 with hot swap and red kalih switch and its really good! (It's have 5 pin slots)
