GTA 4 also takes the cake when it comes to storyline... I mean by far.....
The storyline of the GTA IV is the best among GTA games.
Gta v barely has any story to begin with. I finished it twice and can barely remember any villain or most of the "plot"

@@evila9076or you maybe just rushed through missions instead of diving into the story and the lore, because if otherwise you'd know for a fact that there are a few plot twists in the story along with you knowing that there are 3 villains in the game, Steve haines is the only one who barely had a villain act at all despite his personality
You'd see devin weston scamming franklin, lamar, and trevor
Had a more intelligent move on making more investments, funds, and almost scamming michael, and dumping franklin once again after Ending B (tho it's not canon but it shows Devin's most evil side)
You also see stretch basically lying on both franklin and lamar by setting them up and have the ballas to go against lamar alone and get him killed more or less
Wei cheng with more connections and basically the bully type of character (as he makes fun of michael and trevor being "lovers" even tho they're not) and also capturing, torturing, and basically trying to kill michael
There are plots to the story too
Like how michael getting shot and right there at the end of prologue we see that he was still alive "somehow", went ahead coming back to the life of crime just for 1 task, thought wrong on trevor being "dead" along with trevor finding out he was still alive, and trevor himself thinking brad was held in the federal penitentiary until he found out he was dead instead and michael being the rat, which got michael and Dave's plan to go down, and here
Gta V story is easily more complex than Gta IV, which I can assume you getting real confused about it because of it
Too many lore to go for and better symbolism
I suggest you play it for the 3rd time and try not to rush through missions only (if you want to by any chance)

A GTA game is meant to be weird shit happenings where you can enjoy without useless realism trying to annoy you, They did exactly that for GTAV and i hope the same goes for GTAVI

Im p sure or atleast i think that it was due to hardware limitations. IV and V were developed for the same old gen 2005 tech consoles. Though as you can clearly tell the graphics in V were way better than IV. But that came at the cost of dumbing down the physics and detail. Heres hoping VI comes back with the innovative design Rockstar is known for and has proven to still do with games like RDR2

I think GTA 5 was made for a wider audience while GTA 4 was made primarily for gamers.
Well the game sold a shit ton of copies and that’s due to its insane marketing and hype, plus it’s design philosophy made it more accessible to a wider audience it’s no wonder why the game is extremely successful, but let’s also not act like GTA fans weren’t checking for this game, This game is apart of an extremely beloved franchise, GTA 5 was made for GTA fans first and foremost, it’s very much a gamer’s game.
V was made for little kids and normies, casual mainstream masses who adore whatever is trendy /like this Ioser @brokendimension^^^

Ngl GTA IV was always my favorite GTA game. I remember my dad and I playing it on the Xbox 360 way back in the NXE days and that probably wasn’t a good idea to let me play it when I was so young, but even after all the GTA V updates, IV has stayed my favorite and it probably will stay my favorite for a long time
So incredibly disappointing that I was the only 1 who noticed all of this shit and way more on the very first day of playing it in 2013. Not a single person agreed with me about how much of a downgrade it was from GTA IV back then. For some reason, everyone were sucking V off with with praise while looking at me like I was stupid. And only recently within the past 4 years or so, they finally began waking up and seeing what I witnessed.

honestly i am one of the few ones who played gta 4 first then 5 and after playing 5 after 4 it appears to be a downgrade in physics and even realistic storyline to in gta 5 u are doing heist robbery and killing as many as cops in a misson which is somewhat unrealistic to me as compared to gta 4 and driving too i especially like gta 4 driving system more than 5s and again its only my opinion
Another thing is that, In Gta IV if you got 1 star only, the police wont just straight up kill you, they will try to detain you or let you surrender, and if you resist, it's gonna become 2 stars and the police then will start firing at you , but in gta V they just don't care and just straight up wanna shoot you

Some would probably say its bold of me to say, but honestly the only thing in my opinion 5 did better than 4 is customization and things to spend money on. Euphoria just made GTA 4s gameplay better in so many ways on top of it seeming more realistic, cops actually acted like real cops instead of if you even dare breathe on them the wrong way or stand near an officer for more than a second you get a wanted level and they shoot to kill on site. The execution system had the potential to be expanded upon in 5 to have some animations for shotguns and assault rifles instead of just pistols, you could actually go inside buildings to buy food, if there was an explosion unless you were directly next to it you realistically got knocked back instead of instantly dying; I could go on and on about ways I personally think GTA 4 is better than 5. Can't forget that apparently in the PC version of 4, some people found textures and files that hinted that Nico was originally gonna have more customization by having more clothing options than a selection from three or four stores, but also a barber shop was originally planned, and its rumored that like Red Dead Redemption with Undead Nightmare, allegedly Rockstar was thinking about making a third DLC expansion besides TBOGT and TLAD that involved Liberty City having a zombie outbreak
I see this argument a lot, but what's the point of spending money in V? You buy something for 500k with 1k profit per week so you need to wait 500 weeks just to return back your money??? 10 weeks (game time of course) is probably more than enough to finish this game, who is going to play it 500 weeks? Scrapyard - $150 per destroyed car if I remember, how many cars you need to completely destroy just to return your money? 1000? Good luck with that. Or that submarine, you need to waste 10 hours real time to find every barrel, for meager profit. Eventually, some missions give you 1mil or something, so what's the point of buying properties, stock market, whatever bs? Wasting time. That's what V is - enormous waste of time on pointless activities and bloated 'features'. And a huge map, most of it empty desert, hills, military base...
I liked Mafia 2 system, food vendors, clothes shops, weapons, car customization, you can sell stolen cars, you can even spend money to bribe police... and you need money for late game missions. But properties in GTA V are just pointless imo.
Gta V killed the gameplay by going more arcadey though ill chalk that up to rockstar being limited to the tech they were using. Heres hoping GTA VI proves me right

GTA 5 was limited by ps3 hardware that had only 512 MB ram its incredible that they could even barely run this game at all 720p 25fps
GTA IV had much smaller map & no countryside so it was cramped with physics and details
Rockstar should have made the game for next gen hardware look at Red Dead Redemption 2 its open world feels so much more alive and had awesome physics and animation.
They also toned down the vehicle physics and made more simplistic and arcady because people complained back then GTA 4 had horrible driving.
I hope GTA 6 keeps a balance between and its been only released on PS5 & XB1X means they arent handicapped by hardware and make detailed open world
Yeah but its because R* wasn't patient enough and even if so they wouldn't make much sales since the 2013 consoles were new , Expensive and probably rare like how the current consoles were before, But i don't get why wouldn't they make a decent delay where lots of people could had those 2013 consoles since they want return from all the money they've made

GTA V lacks detail, in certain areas. What GTA V did better than IV, is stuff like the odd graffiti, and things like that. Personally, GTA V is very surface level, and arcadey. It was fun, for sure. But I never truly felt immersed in it. I felt like I was watching through a window, or like the game takes place in a snowglobe, or a fishtank.
In GTA IV, I felt like I was there, either that I was Niko, or more like I was right there alongside him. Maybe that has to do with the fact that I a relate a lot more with his backstory, and with him as a character overall. But that's just it, it was all those details, just like with the physics, just like with the driving, and the throwable items etc. that made the story so much more engaging as well. And the story doesn't take you down a dark path and cover it glitz and glam the way GTA V does. You ever play V, and feel that overwhelming sense of dissonance? I don't get that in IV. The location and setting, and the story and atmosphere fit together like a glove. Niko is some immoral jackass trying to hit it big like Micheal or Franklin, and he isn't some psycho like Trevor. He's just a guy, who's trying to get to the right place, so that he can do the right thing, and not lose his life in doing so. He ends up doing some dark things, and dealing with his demons in the name of survival. Not in the name of trying to get rich so that he can live in a mansion, or get his ex back, or turn into one of the very businessmen that made the world that f***** his sh* up in the first place. That's why his revenge was so hollow in the end. It's great writing, and shows a deep understanding of the playerbase they were trying to appeal to.
And outside of the story, and the characters, the amount of effort they put it to make it feel like a real place. GTA V leaves too much on the table for the upgrade in technology they had.
I can only hope that GTA VI draws on what GTA IV had to offer, and this time gives us those sunny, upbeat Florida vibes, but also gives us that immersion, and detail, and strong story I've been craving since GTA V came out.
The supporting characters are so darn good In GTA4 You can remember them so we easily, Roman, Jacob, Brucie, Bernie, McCreary, playboy, Dwayne... How many can you remember from GTA5?

I agree with all of this and I would add how GTA IV have better side activities, relatonships with girls and friends etc.. Also GTA V has a lot of weapons and most of them dont feel authentic, some looks fictional like there are even futuristic weapons. GTA IV have less but its way more accurate and realistic, a really good selection of weaponry. Same goes to vehicles as well. Besides GTA IV has much better story and characters if you combine all them together with EFLC DLCs, while GTA V has a bland story, generic characters and no SP DLCs. GTA V is really a simplified prequel with all those downgraded features, especially physics, gameplay and lore

My guess is that, with gta 4 they test how far the physics can go and how much realistic the npcs can be with the ps3 hardware. With gta v they tested how big the map and how realistic the graphics, and variations can get. Thats why they sacrificed interiors and physics in gta v.

Yup, I played gta IV before V. And I also played VC and SA before IV. I can say without a doubt IV is my favorite and is most definitely a better game than V. Sure if you’re used to V having all the crazy car modifications and the weapon selection you might think IV is shit, or if you played V first then tried IV. But true OG’s know GTA IV is the better game.
GTAV is disapointing in many ways, not only that they dumped down and casualized the content. Also the game itself is boring, while it's the biggest GTA map, it's felt empty, only one city, two villages and rest is emptiness, but even in the urban areas there isn't that much you can do. While San Andreas is way smaller, it felt so much bigger, I couldn't belive, that GTAV was a bigger map, it never felt so.
I don’t see how a supposed GTA fan can call any of these games boring really.
3, VC, SA, IV, V and even the PSP and 2D games, they’re all GTA and at thier core offer the same thing, you can do anything you want in these sandbox worlds but yet you go out of your way to specifically call V boring simply because you have a vendetta against it.

From every 3D GTA I've played (III, VC, SA and IV), GTAV got me realy fast bored and annoyed, yeah this game was a big disapointment for me, sp and online.

I recently tried out GTA 4 and played it all the way through and I absolutely hated it! Don’t get me wrong, the characters were great, the story was pretty good, the map and activities were great. The reason I hated it so much was because when you die, you have to start the mission all over again! In GTA 5 there are checkpoints that you respawn to when you die, while if you die in GTA 4, you have to redo the mission from the beginning, and I don’t just mean redo all of the fight scenes, but you also have to sit through the entire drive again if you die! The bank robbery mission almost made me want to quit because there are so many fight scenes and you have to do it all over again if you die! Also, in the final mission where you kill Jimmy Pegorino, there’s a stupid glitch where you can’t get onto the helicopter even when you rapidly smash the spacebar as much as you can (Although there is a way to bypass that glitch on the Steam version of the game thanks to a video I found) which really pissed me off as it was the final mission of the game and I thought I was going to have to give up there!
In GTA 5, I was able to invest myself more into getting to know the characters and be more invested in the story and enjoy it more, while I was unable to do that at all in GTA 4 as I was always just so stressed out about passing the missions as I would have to start them all over again if I died, and therefore couldn’t get super invested in the characters/story because of the fact that I was super stressed out about not dying in the game and needing to repeat it all over again! The fact that so many characters call you all the time and ask you to do stuff with them was also pretty annoying in my opinion, but at least that’s avoidable by simply declining the offer, but The fact that you have to completely start over everyone you die is completely intolerable in my opinion and will probably never play GTA 4 again! Therefore I personally do not understand why everyone prefers GTA 4 over GTA 5. I am praying that GTA 6 will have the same type of level checkpoints thing that GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 both have!
Dude, the only GTA game that has this checkpoint thing is GTA 5, if you hate GTA 4 for it you hate all the others GTA games too except 5 lol + you even lose your weapons when you die in the older games

Mentioning being able to see Niko's breath vs. not seeing it in GTA V is pointless. First of all, GTA V is set in a game version of Los Angeles, where seeing your breath almost never happens because it rarely gets that cold, even in winter. Second, it never snows in GTA IV despite it being set in a game version of New York, while in GTA V, part of the game occurs in North Yankton, and there is snow everywhere. Of the two, I'd say GTA V has a more realistic depiction of weather.
You gotta remember, GTA IV takes place in fall since it was originally going to release in October 2007 but was delayed

Gta IV blows V out the water, even the sound of the game if you had a real sound system and subwoofer was crazy. Hearing enemy helicopters flying by and terrorizing the sky was insane. It would put fear into making you find cover. It sounded like a true war zone around you and behind you. Gta v has no soul litterally get locked on by a missle with 0 skill and then your gone.

I've come to the conclusion that the greedster CEO's from Take2 and their stakeholders favor microtransactions over anything else. So basically anything that distracts you from buying shark cards must be removed in order for you have to buy "fun" in a package. I use to just spend hours roaming freely and interacting with npc's because it was so entertaining. Pre-microtransactions, ah those were the good ol' days.

LMAO GTA 4 feels like a demo compared to GTA 5, GTA 4 actually misses a lot of things, there is no public bus transport driven by NPC in GTA 4 and in one of the largest city and densely populated area you actually expect to see it and there ain't even no trucks seen with trailers attached.
In GTA 5 you will see lot of things, trucks with trailers, public bus transport, and NPC's animation doing their own activites feels more natural and real than GTA 4. There are all kinds of NPCS doing different things, there are construction workers driving piles, people waiting outside of bars, working out on the beach, Ballas hanging out on the corner in Davis, women walking dogs, where are these in GTA 4？

You'll finish the game in 10 weeks tops (game time ofc), who's gonna play 500 weeks??? Same with a scrapyard - $150 per car, you need to completely destroy 1000 cars just to return your money! Same with towing cars, or a submarine. Pointless waste of time. You have more safehouses in IV than in V with all protagonists combined. Eventually you'll get 1mil or more from missions, so money is completely irrelevant in both games. At least in IV they don't trick you to waste -money- time on pointless 'activities'

I just bought this game 2 weeks ago on steam cuz I can't see the physical copy of my GTA IV in PC.
After playing it a few minutes, god! It felt that GTA IV is the most recent release of GTA instead of V, GTA V is too plain too arcade even the characters I can't feel them, unlike Niko and Roman

GTA 4 has aged terribly, it’s controls are extremely clunky and unresponsive, Niko moves with the mass of a freighter, he’s extremely slow while running, The combat roll is very slow, You clearly have never played GTA 5 before, it’s clearly a superior game with a bunch of technical improvements and QoL updates.

I remember that back in the day no one liked GTA IV. Everybody was complaining about the dark atmosphere and the bad car handeling. Now suddenly everybody think it a good game, they love the dark atmosphere and they call the driving a ‘simulation’. Gta iv is boring in many aspects, nothing to do in free mode, the mission are repetitive, the friendship level is annoying as hell, and all the fun side activities have been removed

Hanging out with friends gave you special abilities and services while in GTA 5 your friends will give nothing back for hanging out with them.
Also GTA 5 got rid of the iconic vigilante, paramedic and firefighter missions. Just because of that the storymode is very disappointing.
What disappoints the most is that activities are way less compared to TBOGT where you had parachuting, air hockey, golf, thriatlon (a funnier version with parachutes, boats and cars with NOS), Darts, bowling, watching commedy shows, cage fightings, nightclubs, stripclubs and play pool.
Another annoying thing in GTA 5 is auto-climb or auto-run.
The fact that a shot can get your character in running mode can be very annoying especially if you need to walk on thin objects suspended on high places to get to the other side. Auto-climb is very annoying when you are in buildings like the Kosatka where ladders can get you stuck in a limbo where your character gets on the top and immediatelly gets back on the ladder if you walk next to it.
In GTA 4 you had to press triangle in order to get on the ladder which is way better and safer and in occasions like this can save you lot of time.

For the first point, cars will take less damage the more armor they have. If you steal a random un-upgraded car from the street and crash it you will see it take a lot more damage.

@@negative-lift thats not a very compelling argument... for example Red Dead 2 added a lot more realism and in doing so added things that alot of ppl took issue with. such as needing to carry a skinned animal instead of it being saved in the players inventory. the constant need to shave just to keep Arthur without facial hair. the constant need to groom your horse. the constant need to feed Arthur to maintain his weight. all this is realistic but it takes away from gameplay by adding extra steps. a game needs to strike a balance between realism and video game-y

The physics of GTA 4 weren’t even realistic, they’re extremely over exaggerated. I wish 4 fans would stop calling everything a downgrade, there was no downgrade anywhere, 4 physics were specific to 4 because it was a glorified tech demo.
Rockstar made the physics that way to show off the RAGE engine for the new gen consoles, that’s it. 4 had that luxury to show off solely because it was a new game released on new hardware and a new engine, by the time GTA 5 came around the 7th generation was literally dying, A much bigger and more detailed game being made for that same outdated hardware coupled with different design philosophy, you best believe something was getting sacrificed.

I hate this sort of comparisson, both game had its pros and cons, comparing them is unfair, because both Gta lack at each other, Gta 4 is repetitive at Mission design, while Gta 5 thrive with its mission design.
