“Creeping Death” is a song referenced from the biblical story of the Israel Exodus out of Egypt, in the book of EXODUS in the Bible. Singer James Hatfield had a somewhat religious
Upbringing based on his Mother’s religious belief, but that’s a long story in itself 😎 Kool Vid!!! By the way, that concert was held in a Russian Airfield. 🤘🏼😎

The song is about the Tenth Plague of Egypt & was written from the perspective of the destroyer, the Angel of Death. Also there were several bands that played that show, not just Metallica. So it's not as if people just died at a Metallica concert or during their performance.

Then his dad saw him playing live and whipping his head around. He told Jason (paraphrasing here) “Well, yeah, I know exactly why your neck hurts.”

The crowd was not based specifically on free admission, this was a direct result of the end of communism., the tearing down of the Berlin wall. This was the first "Western concert" to be held in the former USSR Capital of Moscow. These people were just loving freedom., for the first time.

Technically there was music festival back in 1989 that had Mötley Crüe, Ozzy Osbourne, Skid Row, Cinderella, and Bon Jovi. I remember watching this because one of the MTV VJs (a Brit, forgot his name) covering the festival was showing his hotel room and commenting that he was glad to have brought soft double ply and scented toilet paper with him.

@@BagoPorkRinds That was the Moscow Music Peace Festival in 1989. But even before that there was a Western music festival there in 1987, featuring Carlos Santana, James Taylor, the Doobie Brothers, and Bonnie Raitt. That show only drew about 18,000 people though. Two years later, the Moscow Music Peace Festival drew (between 70K and 80K, depending on the source) over two days.
FUNNY NOTE about the Moscow Music Peace Festival: Motley Crue had just made a pact with each other to get sober, but...well..none of the other acts on that bill had done so. One of the members of Crue (I think it was Nikki Sixx, IIRC, but maybe not) said about the trip over there, "...it was crazy. We're on a plane full of people, and the ONLY sober people on the plane, besides the pilots, are MOTLEY CRUE!!!" 😆

This song is one of their staples in concerts over the years and one of the most intense awesome things always happens after Kirk’s guitar solo when the crowd starts chanting “die”. Just saw them in San Fran for their 40th anniversary concert- I have been seeing them live since ‘89 and I still get chills when this happens during Creeping Death! Glad you are enjoying their stuff. Check out anything from their concert at Nimes- it’s an ancient Roman colosseum in France. They open the concert with the song Blackened which would be. Great one to react to! 🤘🤘🤘🔥🔥🔥

@Jeff Volpe... I consider myself fortunate that I got to see Metallica with Cliff Burton not too long before he died in 1986. They were supporting their Master of Puppets album, while they opened for Ozzy. The next time I saw them was at the first Monsters of Rock just before they put out And Justice for All. My favorite concert is when they toured with Queensryche on their "And Justice For All" tour. Queensryche opened for Metallica and played their entire Operation Mindcrime album. That was a show to say the least!

As much as Metallica tries to promote this as their concert. It was not. It was called For Those About To Rock: Monsters in Moscow. An all day concert with headline bands closed out by AC/DC.

They had no idea anything was going on while they were playing. The Russian military was running the show. Metallica literally took a helicopter into the concert, and left via helicopter after they were done. It was the first time western music was allowed into Soviet territory. (ex-Soviet at that point, but not by much)

it wasn't the first time. The Moscow Music Peace Festival was 2 years earlier, in 1989, a two-day festival with Mötley Crüe, Ozzy Osbourne, Skid Row, Cinderella, the Scorpions and Bon Jovi. Two years before that, in 1987, there was a Western music concert there featuring Carlos Santana, James Taylor, the Doobie Brothers and Bonnie Raitt, but that show only drew about 18,000 people.

As far as the deaths at the show goes, Metallica heard about them and as soon as they did they took care of those who passed, because the felt responsible in a way and it really got to them. These guys really care for the fans.

Parent's in the 1980's: Metallica plays Devil music
Metallica: Plays song about the Passover story from the book of Exodus in the bible. 😎
The poor people who lost their lives that day could have died for several reasons 1) it was in August and HOT and with that many people all crowded together, it made it even hotter so death via heat stroke & dehydration could easily have occurred. 2) The military was out there cracking heads (literally) because they'd never had a metal concert in Russia before so they were a little freaked about the audience reaction and it's not like here - the military could do whatever they wanted and not get into trouble if they killed a kid.

There was actually 3.4 million people there people came from 36 different countries & James was told not to curse or he would get in trouble but as u can hear he didn’t care he cursed like 10 times !

There were no actual deaths at the concert. Many injuries and sexual assaults, but one of the amazing things is that so many people were in one place and there were no deaths. 50 + people were sent to hospital, about that number arrested and over 100 put in the drunk tank.
Pantera saw the most violence. Black Crows saw things settle down before the only Russian band, Electro Shock Therapy played. Metallica played a great set that saw the entire crowd, including many Soviet troops and police officers taking off uniforms and joining the crowd. AC-DC closed it out with a 2 hour set.

the crowd started showing up 3 days early and camping close to venue. russia uses a lot of trains for public transportation from what my ex said trains ran 24 hours a day for a week befor and a3 days after the concert those arriving the day of had a 5 mile hike to venue. the 53 deaths were largely do to overdoses because ambulances couldnt reach them. also the helicopters flying over head was to fan the crowd so they would;t over heat. there were 5 helicopters flying all day in shifts of five

I read other comments that said that those Russians were not saying DIE but DA (Да). Basically, Russian for Yeah or Yes. It sure sounds like DA.
