Exercising her true 'operatic' voice for a whole song. Absolutely precious.
She comes on stage in a dress with the colors of the Finnish flag and teases Finns for performing a Nightwish classic. She's something else 😄 I always smile when Emppu goes next to Tuomas and Tuomas looks at Emppu like "you still got it old friend?". Tuomas have played these Stargazers melodies in the solos of other songs (Sacrament of Wilderness, Planet Hell...) over the years, so it's clearly special song for him. He was 21y when he composed this.
I'll say it again, Tampere in 2015 was one of Nightwish's classic shows. The whole set list was fire, with the guys rocking out in front of a fanatical Finnish home crowd. Floor Jansen was in her element, her parents were there (visiting from the Netherlands) and even her dress was designed to resemble the Finnish flag. The show finished up with my favourite performance of "The Greatest Show On Earth". They are just wonderful.
And the patern on her dress are DNA strings, fitting the theme of that album.

Great Reaction! If you have not watched the interview Floor did before this Tampere concert you need to. Quite a few reactors have watched it as a reaction. The interviewer and Floor go to her Rock Academy Reunion, then to the Stadium where they talk to Floor's parents (yes, they were at that show), he talks to Toumas and Marko for a minute and he sees her right before the start of the concert and then he meets her the next morning and he takes her to a music store where they see some Nightwish fans. "Floor Jansen in Dutch Show Reunion (Tampere 2015)" Enjoy!
I saw this guys in Tampere Nokia arena 2022. Floor was sick but she did a great gig anyway. She is a heroe. Your smile makes me feel 10 years yuonger.Tank you.❤️
Just the way she teases the crowd in the beginning is so fun to watch, then she throws her operatic vocals on them\us, plus the insanely fast pace of the melody.
PS: this is one of the reasons I love Floor. She kept the essence of the song, but also added a pinch of her personal style.

Floor at peak performance with her parents & Dutch TV attending. Tampere was a stellar gig, with Floor having added even more vocal colouring since Wacken (e.g. the awesome GLS version at this concert).
Oh how I wish that Tuomas would make more use of this side of Floor's unending vocal abilities. This is reminiscent of After Forever Floor, a vocal Ferrari at Tuomas' disposal. The 2nd half of Shoemaker is why ppl consider it a NW classic already. A song like this on the upcoming album would be so nice. Cheers from Amsterdam! 🤘
Great reaction , it was off the playlist because this was wrote for Tarja and when Annete became the singer she couldn't sing operatic at all . even when Tuomas wrote the song "Storytime" he used a prerecorded backing track for the operatic part in it

@@missrubyphoenix largely, yes, I think so. Floor puts a ton of unique flare into some other old songs like Ghost Love Score, but this one not so much. It's straight (gorgeous) opera. I don't intend this observation as an insult; she totally pulled it off and did bring herself for the stage presence. I just found the sound strikingly similar to Tarja.
If you disagree, that's fine. If you want to change my mind with your incredulity, though, you're out of luck.
Edit: I saw your main post now, and we seem to basically agree. It's just better to call it keeping the essence of Tarja's song than to call it imitation. That's fair.

@fredverkerk838 yes, but music is often written with a certain balance of instruments based on vocals. Tuomas wrote this with Tarja in mind, and it will forever sound best with operatic vocals unless the instruments are adjusted, too.

Surely, the Tooth of Time is there, compared to nowadays Releases, but i personaly dont care, it was iconic back then, over 20 Years and so i am helplessly romanticide it:)

Thanks for this, Jynger! This was a wonderful reaction to an amazing song (but they all are..😁)! Don't watch too much from Tampere 😉. Floor does some serious opera as well, but that's on Gabriel's list too.
You love these guys so much! If possible, we have to get you in Finland on 17 June 23 (I have a spare ticket), the last show of the current tour. Stadium show with all the pyros and fireworks! You have to see a show in Europe (and this one's in the Motherland).
Thank you very much my friend!! Wow that would be an amazing experience, but a very long flight for someone who has never been on a commercial airline LOL!! I went on my first flight on a single engine 4 years ago and that was just to get me up in the air for about 30mins.

Didn’t know who this band was two years ago but now they’re one of my favorite bands out there by far
Stargazers hadn't been played since before the breakup with Tarja in 2005. Anette didn't do operatic vocals, so this was one of the songs that got put away. When Floor joined, it opened up the catalogue to older songs like this. The song talking about the universe and the Earth's place in it fit in with the ,then current, Endless Forms Most Beautiful album and its themes.
I like this version, I haven't heard it before! It's a bit slower and Floor sings it lower than the original, but it's very lovely. The original is when the band was still in their power metal era (2nd and 3rd album) and it catapults you straight through the galaxy :D
This is the song era when Nightwish used to be a straight forward power metal in the late 90s. When they got Anette in the band they drastically changed their musical direction until today. They changed it with versatility and it fits perfectly.
Emppu always looks like he's just having a good time, lol.

Floor's Power is undeniable.
This song is from Tarja era (First singer and co-founder).
And this concert was very special for Floor ( Her Parents where there ❤).
The meaning of the song appears to be a poetic comparison between the Earth drifting through space and the way an ancient mariners would use the stars for navigation, and the music adds the proper epic drama of the process. Clarifying some of the metaphors, the "third vagrant" is the Earth as it is the third planet from the Sun, the "mother and child" are the Earth and Moon, "hydrogen lakes" describes both the fact that water is partially hydrogen, and that the space in our solar system is mostly hydrogen, "ambrosial merry-go-round" refers to the forever orbiting of the planet.

Never lament the time in the past you had not discovered them. But take great joy that you can listen to them now and it brightens your day. I can say from personal experience seeing them live that the camaraderie they demonstrate on stage hasn't diminished an iota over the years. They have become my favorite band and not a day goes by do I not listen to them. Very glad you are now on board. Take care!
If you couldn't already tell, this was originally a Tarja song. And being that Tarja was a strictly operatic vocalist with lots of training in that area, it's very impressive how well Floor pulled off this song considering that she is not actually an opera singer. Quite a testament to Floor's capability and versatility. I started listening to Nightwish way before Tarja got fired, so I'll admit a certain amount of bias for Tarja's vocals. But on the other hand, with a singer as versatile and skilled as Floor, it has opened up all kinds of things for Tuomas to consider compositionally that may not have been possible with Tarja (Greatest Show On Earth, for example, would not have sounded like it does, assuming Tuomas would have written it in the first place). Floor is exactly what Nightwish needed, and she really completes the band.
When you get deeper in to their catalog... you'll connect the dots to this song.
The style was adapted to what Tuomas had at hand to work with. As he has done for the rest of his creating/creative journey.

But I think in this case he's right.
it's already a miracle they found a singer who can sing the entire catalogue from both previous singers.
But to find one who can do all that, but Floors parts as well and be a good fit in the band is close to impossible.

She loves the band too much for that, she loves her "brothers" as she often call them, too much ofr that. After all what she's been through (After Forever being on a one-year hiatus and finally ending, creating her own band, struggling to make it grow, her burn-out...) that call from Nightwish was a blessing to her

Stargazers was the first Nightwish song I ever listened to, way back in 1999. It was great with Tarja back in the day, but it takes on a whole new dimension with Floor!

I spot a guest star on the bed. There are quite a few songs like this in the older Nightwish catalogue, melodic and somewhat structurally simpler or more straightforward songs than what Tuomas would eventually begin to write. Tarja has a very dark tone to her voice, and Floor emulates it to a decent degree in this performance. Tarja's voice is so distinct that it hangs over some of the old songs like this one and Wishmaster. It just wouldn't make sense to sing Stargazers in any other way, or if it was done like that then it wouldn't make sense to call it Stargazers anymore. If you really enjoyed this type of Nightwish in particular, then maybe for another in a sort of similar compositional vein melodically would be Gethesemane, though as a slower song it's not quite as energetic. Same Tarja disclaimer applies to that as to Stargazers. Another old song that I very much enjoy is Devil & The Deep Dark Ocean, Floor did a great version of that together with Marco, funnily enough neither of them performed in the original D&DDO.

As others have said, Annette did not have the training to sing this song which is the reason it was off the setlist for 10 years. You should listen to Tarja's version as well. It was incredible.
I hope you spend more time with that other wonderful Dutch singer, Simone Simons from Epica. Please listen to Kingdom of Heaven Part 3 from the Omega Alive concert. I just saw them in concert this week and it was amazing! You will be just as blown away.
As you can probably guess, this was a Tarja song originally. Thus the operatic vocal style as well as the fact it was off the set list for 10 years. Tarja's era ended in 2005 and this was not a song for Annette to attempt. Great to spend some quality time with you on a Sunday morning. Be well JingerSlapz.

Great reaction. One of the songs where I love Tarja's performance as much as Floor's. The song is a perfect fit for her darker operatic voice. You should check it out for your own enjoyment.
What is funny to me when people say, yeah I got the Nightwish sound now, really, wait until the next song. Floor can sound like completely people in the same song.

The reason Floor sings so operatically on this song is because Stargazers was originally a Tarja song (and you’ve heard her opera chops already) - and because it probably can’t be done in another way due to the constant high notes. (Floor usually sings her own way on older songs, but this is the most her singing has resembled Tarja’s).
Floor is like a 10 singers in one and you never know which 3 come out for a song.

I've always wished Tuomas would write more stuff for Floor's operatic voice. If you haven't heard "Shoemaker", from their Human Nature album, you have to hear it. It's beautiful beyond belief.

Floors parents were at this show. Did you hear the 10 year thing? They couldn't do it because although Tarja and Floor have operatic voices, Annette doesn't.
Traditionally im gonna comment before I'll watch the video coz the song You've chosen here is obviously something You wont expect but I can imagine Your reaction right now coz its legendary Nightwish sound with the powerful Floor on vocals (BUT personally as a Floors fanboy I gotta admint i prefer more the Tarjas original version so give it a try, its from Oceanborn album, peace \m/)

Among all the songs on the Tampere set-list, this one really stands out because it's a typical pre-Century Child song. To me, Century Child is a very important album in the history of the band because it's a shift from the very early Nighwish. The first 3 albums who were heavily influenced by Progressive Metal, Power Metal, by bands like Symphony X but with Century Child, the band left these old influences and began developping their own sound (I'm not saying the 3 first albums are bad, I'ùm not saying Nightwish was bad before that, I'm saying their sound was different).
Also I think this song is one of the songs better suits to Tarja. Please, Jynger, we need more Tarja on that channel :

It's a great song and I find it bizarre that having been played in every concert in the 1999 "Sacrament of Wilderness" and ) Oceanborn tours, after the Ruisrock festival in July2004 on the tour to promote Once, it never hit the setlist again until this Endless Forms tour. And then, weirdly, it disappeared from the setlist after the October 2016 Seoul concert, never to be seen again. Why?
I think it kinda shows how Tarja era splits to two different categories: Angels Fall First, Oceanborn, Wishmaster (operatic power metal)
Century Child, Once (Marko)
First three albums and that style was the breakthrough but they changed a lot after Marko came and I think setlist just progressed naturally to that direction. Their current setlist goes to direction which has big Floor Jansen stamp on it. Basically they just have too many great songs 😄
What I find interesting is I hear Breaking Benjamin at the start. Then you hear Floor sounding alot like Tarja.
