The casual nature where you walked about making your own tools. Those things were LEGENDARY. Full sets were selling for $500+ recently.

I'm glad to hear they have retained their value. I use my drivers every chance I get. Some are so well used, I have worn out the the anodize on the handles. But, the tips are still in great shape, nice and sharp. Maybe we do another run of drivers....I have to figure out how to make them more cost effective.
As I was assembling the rear end of the Baja I needed a longer 3mm driver than what my driver could reach. I remember the original Baja's used to come with a small set of tools to work on the car but that's missing from the new SBK's.

I am not a fan of bad manuals and this one does not seem to be a great one at all. I get re-inventing the wheel is not easy but if you are offering two versions of the kit the provide two versions of the manual. Hopping back and forth like that would drive me batty! Good luck with it and glad you have experience with building these as someone like me would need a video like these to help them out getting through an iffy build guide!

Yeah, the manual is a little crazy. Not only is the manual designed for both builds but the kit also comes with many of the parts used for the gas build. But it's missing components like the gas tank, air filter, etc... So it would still take quite a bit of effort and parts hunting to convert to gas if you wanted to go that route.
I will make an effort to keep track of the issues through out the build and be informative.
I was watching SBG's videos on this kit and he also ran into some hick-ups seemingly based on how the build is laid out.
I don't expect any surprises on fit and finish. These cars, as far as I can remember, went together really well without having to pull out a file or Dremel to "finess" parts.

Thanks! I am looking forward to the build but I think more so for running it. On 8S, this thing is going to scream (I hope).
I have what I think is an interesting idea for the body livery that I hope pans out but I'm trying to keep it under wraps because I haven't heard of anyone else doing this yet; even though the car has been around for 17 years.

Are you going to start making parts again?

I'm entertaining the idea. I just went and registered the domain again for Baja Skunkworks so we'll see how it goes. In the past, I used local machine shops (in California) so production costs were high. I will need to look at alternative manufacturing solutions without compromising on quality in order to not over-price the value of the product.

So did you work for fast Eddie??

      Nope.
I used to own and run Baja Skunkworks primarily focused on designing and manufacturing unique tools and upgrades for the HPI Baja 5B. Back in the 2006 ish there were a handful of us up-and-coming hop-up companies making parts for the Baja, myself and Team Fast Eddy included. We used to bounce ideas off each other and share our prototypes for testing etc... Eddy lives a little more than an hour north of me so we did a lot of Baja related racing, events, shows etc...
When I was making upgrades, I used TFE bearings in my assemblies that required it.
I remember one time we were driving to Glamis for an event and stopped by HPI headquarters in SoCal. We were able to get a tour of the facility which was pretty cool.
