It was Rob Koll who said that. You gotta understand Koll to know he always bust balls . They took one little clip he did with Bader and twisted it . Bader asked him why someone should go to UNC and being Koll, he said something along the lines of “you see the ladies here? “ he was joking around and then he went into the real reasons. Media made it sound like that was his sole answer. Ok guys, time to get out the notebooks, sounds like we need a little pow wow on the Kolls cause they are very important in the history of college wrestling. As far as Rob Koll’s background,; he was a NCAA champion for UNC . He then coached Cornell staring in 89 as an assistant and 93 as the head coach. I meant him back in 95 when so was in high school going to camps there and during recruiting. He is a great guy and great coach. He not only coached Cornell for almost 30 years, but he literally built the Friedman Center by his second to none mind for raising funds and business side of the sport. Koll had a bad taste about the IVY league canceling the 2021 season after the 2020 ncaa tourney was cancelled. This is when both the Dean boys went to Penn St: All these Cornell guys you have seen the past couple years are all Koll’s recruits. Yianni, Vito, Foca, Ramirez, Fernandes, Ungar, Cornella, Loew etc. Then Koll goes to Stanford and all the Stanford wrestlers you see doing well…those too are Koll’s recruits . Daniel Cardenas, Provo, etc were actually committed to Cornell and then they followed him to Stanford. As soon as his alma mater had the opening it wasn’t surprised that He left to go to UNC. By the way, Koll’s dad, Bill Koll, in my opinion may be the best college wrestler ever. He was a 3x undefeated NCAA champ (only 3 years back then) in the middle of those 3 years Bill stormed Normandy and earned himself a bronze star. He went on to coach Northenr Iowa then Penn st. Penn States new locker room is named after Bill Koll.
I was in Lincoln NE a few weekends ago about 10 minutes from the school. There weren't any dual's going on, but I had time to kill and wanted to go check out the wrestling room, maybe even get lucky enough to watch a practice. When I got to campus I stepped into a crowded elevator and towards the back wearing a sweater vest was the legend himself Mark Manning. He was reading some paper work and looked busy so I didn't want to bother him, but when the elevator stopped and the doors opened up just before he stepped out I said "Hey coach I'm a big fan-good luck this year." He looked at me, gave me an awkward smile and a nod and went on his way. When the elevator doors shut it was just me and some older lady looking at me rather confused. She said "I didn't know Steve Martin was a coach."

Shapiro & Ramirez BOTH ducked at the Collegiate Duals. They were protecting their rankings rather than wrestling Chittum & Carr
The coaches ducked them. Those two guys would wrestle anyone.
I knew I had seen results for Shapiro, so I checked the scores intending to prove you wrong. Well, Shapiro & Ramirez BOTH wrestled vs Little Rock. Then, Shapiro & Ramirez BOTH wrestled vs Pitt. THEN, Shapiro & Ramirez BOTH DID NOT wrestle vs Iowa State. So, Shapiro missed going up against Chittum, and Ramirez missed going up against Carr. Good call dramaking!
That is making many assumptions and only pointing out a small part of what was going on in order to suggest both those guys were ducking. Cornell has 8 wrestlers out of the 10 ranked top 12.
On Monday, it wasn’t as if all 8 guys wrestled 3 matches and only Shapiro and Ramirez took off. It’s also not as if those two guys were the only ones missing against Iowa St with coach greys piss poor decision. I mean did Vito duck Frost as well since he wrestled the first 2 and not Iowa St? Guessing no since after beating Nasir Bailey 4-0, Vito watched Bailey beat Frost 15-0. What about Ungar? Did he duck Terukina? Guessing not…His back up did end up pinning him in this dual. Both Vito and Ungar losing would really hurt their seeding come March but nobody is ready to say they too were ducking. The Cornell coaches shit plan was to have 6 of their 8 top wrestlers only wrestle 2 of 3 matches. I am fine with that but where I am not fine with it is where he choose to have them wrestle . Foca and Fernandes lost to Batista and Foca beat Feldcamp. if they were ducking, I mean why not sit those guys as well against Iowa State? Foca losing another match wouks have really hurt him and Fernandes did lose.
Now what’s messed up is if you wanna give your good guys one match off of the three that’s fine but have them all takeoff against Little Rock who you beat 32-8 or even Pitt who you beat 27-12. I don’t agree with you on Shapiro at all and suppose a case could be made for Ramirez
If you are suggesting that Shapiro is ducking Chittum you are assuming that Shapiro doesn’t win that match
It really doesn’t make much sense because one Shapiro is already lost twice so it’s not like he has this unbeaten record and that loss is going to have massive implications on his seating come March. Guy is 8-2. Also promise you that none of the coaches or anyone else that has seen him wrestle time is him again, is in any doubt that Shapiro can’t beat Chittum. guarantee you Shapiro certainly isn’t fearful after two weeks ago watching a guy he nearly teched (Andonian) pin Chittum in only a minute. So that theory is pretty much at out there. again, especially since there were two other guys that took off the same dual who clearly weren’t ducking and two other guys who wrestled in the dual who would’ve had larger seat, implications by losing.
The only thing I can think of as far as Ramirez is a couple things one absolutely does he have nothing to gain by wrestling Carr. He beat him. He beat him again, whatever but if he loses to him, then all of a sudden they’re tied 1-1 in the series and Carr wins that tiebreaker every day based on résumé.
I also do think that there is way too much wrestling left for them to worry about a 1 loss Ramirez seed come March when Cornell still has so many tough duals left. I’m not as confident in Ramirez as I am in Shapiro winning these matches but you can’t say for sure that Ramirez doesn’t win again against him Ramirez look on Monday he pinned his first guy and then he defeated the #8 wrestler 11-1. Carr beat -#8 as well 9-1. So back To the duck talk the only thing that I could come up with this is a really far stretch would be that he was keeping Ramirez from wrestling and it was so important that he decided to not have three other guys rust in that dual, and therefore intentionally not trying to win it, so not make it seem like it was just Ramirez ducking Carr and that’s some nonsense right there.
I also just hate the whole insinuating docking, because really more times than none. It’s the coaches that are being the Duckers everyone of these wrestlers is up for wrestling.
@Slapthematwrestling The reason I said some ducking was happening was because Cornell sat 4 guys...Are we to believe all 4 were injured? They sat against the best team. Why not sit against Little Rock. People paid to watch this event live & streaming. It's not fair to the paying fans, and it's not fair to our sport because the Marque matchups grow it. The B team ddoesn't. These things need called out by fans and pundits alike to stop it. Flo was talking about it. Flo was calling them out too. Askren said they were soft Luke bananas. You barely touch a banana and it bruises. He was brutal. He said it's important to wrestle when youre not feeling 100% or youre a little dinged because it prepares you for March. I loved it. We wait a long time for a short season and they pull this bs with the ducking and dodging the marquee matchups.
@Footestomper Ramirez was looking ahead to the NCAA tournament & thinking he desperatelywants to be on the other side of the bracket away from Keegan. If he stays #2 the only way he faces Otoole is in the final. Chump move.

Wow, Camacho (Jakob) moves into the #1 spot at 125 in the Flo rankings. Then, in the Collegiate Duals drops matches to #4 Noto (4-2), #32 Anderson (4-2), and then gets pinned by #30 McCrone. Wow.
At least he didn't duck. These losses will galvanize him for March while Shapiro & Ramirez get soft hiding out

Cactus Wrestling said according to their inside source with Cornell that Shapiro was never concussed, he just wrestled poorly. Apparently, it was a teammate who said it.

Anyone who is familiar with Shapiro’s wrestling knows that it was a lot more than him wrestling poorly. He wasn’t wrestling poorly when he beat Andonian 16-4. You don’t score 16 on Andonian then score 1 point on Chombley the same day. He is one of the best conditioned wrestlers i’ve ever seen and yet he is sluggish getting to the center of the mat after they go out of bounds 10 seconds into the Cardenas match.
