I never had any formal excel training, with excel campus, Jon have help me improve my efficiency. No wonder then your videos are that popular. Thanks Sir.
I really appreciate that you take your time to explain everything at normal speed, Some people go too fast. This is the best video that I have seen on pivot tables.
Wow! what a great tutor you are! I had NO clue what pivot tables were and have an interview next week that I was told I will be tested on this because the last person that they hired told them they were an Excel expert and were NOT! I am so confident that I will be able to ace the next interview! Thanks so much for this invaluable information!
Well I didnt get the job that I was learning about pivot tables for....but now I have skills I didnt have before for next job thanks to you Jon. Im currently waiting to hear from another I terview...so cross ur fingers for me!
Thank you so much Erin! That is awesome! There are definitely a lot of employers looking for employees with these skills. Finding the RIGHT job can take time and patience, but I know you will do well. I wish you all the best. :-)
Almost a decade and Excel Campus is saving lives. your tutorials makes me want to dive more into Data Analytics.to think that I almost gave up. Thank you so so much.
Well, I am quite impressed by Jon's videos. I am much older than the majority of people who are watching these and a LOT less computer savvy, so I can say that, if I can learn how to manipulate these Excel files into a nice and easy-to-read data format, then anyone can.
Jon, this isn't my first time watching your videos and trying to learn, but this is the first time I'm doing it without being overwhelmed with anxiety. I need to develop these skills for a new job and I look forward to using them with confidence when called on and it's all because of you. Thank you!
I realize the video is old, and it has a lot of great data. I hope that the material is updated to reflect the latest office versions. In this video you mentioned adding new data to the data tab and then you had to update where the pivot is pointing. If you'd just make the data list on the tab as a table, and point the pivot to the table as a whole, the data updates automatically when you click Refresh without having to continually update the pointers. I pull data through ODBC into Excel and the day I learned about data tables was a life saver. Thank you for the invaluable tips you've shared in this series.
Thanks for the feedback Scott! I'm planning to make an updated version in the future. I also have a post on 5 Reasons to Use Tables as the Source of a Pivot Table (www.excelcampus.com/tables/table-source-pivot-table/) that you might enjoy. Thanks again! 🙂
Thanks for watching the video! You can download the file I use in the video at the following link. I just happen to run by this video by accident while searching for a quality learning video for pivot tables and was very pleased with this one. It clearly explained each step for setting up your pivot table and dashboards. Excellent learning tool.
I know this is a little outdated now but hands down the easiest video to follow! Thank you so much and thanks for all the short cuts! These series is AWESOME!!!!
I feel so much better and less stressed after watching this step-by-step video. I love the way you teach, you are the first one that makes this less stressful for beginners like myself. Thanks for putting your knowledge out there.
Honestly, its absolutely genius to give a tutorial on how to manually do things in excel and offer a product with-in the tutorial that will help speed up the process. I would bet they have sold many copies of the Add-on. mad respect for the transparency and knowledge shared.
I'm starting to my new job tomorrow and I don't have any clues about Pivot tables. I'm so glad that to find your training video. I learned a lot today. Thank you so much.
These videos are a great resource for people in the trenches. Thank you, Jon. You take your time, don't race through what you are showing, and break everything down into understandable parses.
I've been putting off learning about pivot tables and playing around on my own, a lot of wasted time.... These are great tutorials and well thought out and presented. I'm going recommend to my staff that they take up some time to watch these.
Jon, you are my new superhero! I have an interview tomorrow and although I do know how to create a Pivot table just enough to be dangerous, you really helped me to remember some things and you also explained some things I didn't know!!! Thanks for this! I am now subscribed and will be coming back for a refresher as often as I can.. THANK YOU!!!!
Thanks for this Jon. You are a burning candle that lights others. Used to think I know Excel while doing everything manually and using formulae. Now am going back to kindergarten. See you in class!!
For anyone who gets a blank value for (blank) in count of quantity: when you change (blank) to shipping fees, make sure you also type in values of 0 for quantity. I noticed in my source data that these values were blank, but when I changed the blank values to 0 the count of quantity changed from nothing being there to 8.
It's been almost 5 years since i last used Pivot Tables. You've given great clarity to how I format the information. Thanks so much. Clear, concise and you know how to translate excel language to what we understand easily. Not everyone can do that! Thanks, again.
Jon, you rock. Within 30min you provided the insight necessary to use this Excel function. I can't even express how much it's increased my efficiency in analyzing large data sets as I manage multiple supply chains.
Clear, simple, and easy to understand. Perfectly matched my needs for a presentation. Best Tutorial on the web. Is there any other tutorial regarding Vlookups and Conditional Formatting (if, else if statements)? Thanks
Your are a great tutor. I have been checking all the videos that Lynda has to offer about Pivot Tables, they are good but they are too long, I always as well as my coworkers end up falling at sleep. I'm an analyst and I use data every day. Thank you so much.
Question: how can I avoid the values. My job is about matching data for instance names, dob, addrees etc. We don't do too much financing calculation analysis.
Note: you can also double-click in the quantity/count area of the pivot table for "blanks' and it will redirect you to a new tab and list all the columns of data that the blanks refer to.
Thanks, a whole lot Jon, your videos are so well organized and the way you explain things is just so easy to grasp. You also foresee possible questions people could have and answer those questions without anybody asking.
This just gives me another reason to live and work! I was thinking to retire early because I can't bear the boredom of working with Excel. But I guess I have been working the wrong way and spent too much unnecessary time doing things I could do within 15 minutes :) thanks Excel Campus, you just saved my life time :D
OMG! I know this video was made more than 3 years ago but I simply forgot about Pivot. The last time I made one was during my BPO days in the Philippines! Thank you Excel MVP for making these tutorials. It really brought back some memories again. I just subscribed and will watch Vid #3 after this then move on to VLookup and more of your tutorials! Thank you!
I really like it how you only promote pivotpal at the end of the video, so that those who are not interested can just leave the video and not be bothered by it. these guides are very easy to understand and provide plenty of knowledge even for some more experienced users. thanks
Hi. Many thanks for the help getting to grips with pivot tables. Do you know if there is any way of getting some data or a worksheet to play around with in around to help learn how to use?
Hi Michael, You can download the file I use in the video at the following link. www.excelcampus.com/charts/pivot-tables-dashboards-part-2 I hope that helps. Thanks!
I have been looking for this kind of information for years! You make it so easy to understand and follow. I just got a large data set that I need to analyze and this is going to help me out HUGE! Thank you for posting this!
I have a interview and was asked do I have specifically; pivot tables, v-look up and concatenate filters. This was a great help. So, I would I be able to demonstrate on it interview?
Thanks John.....your presentation on how to creat dashboard and pivot table is quite exciting. For the past 10 years in my career, I have never known how to create one.
Excellent teacher and excellent information! I was intimidated by Pivot Tables in the past, but now, with some practice, will be able to do them with confidence. THANK YOU for a great video and the excellent information. Nicely done!
You are an amazing instructor! The ability to communicate your knowledge of the subject makes Pivot Tables easy to understand. You are tremendously helping me to do better at work. Thank you.
you are awesome and just. no unnecessary word and to the point. i wanted to learn excel but lost motivation. but now i am inspired and once again thanks to u sir and wish you all the best
Great job , useful , thank you. Somehow , when I copy the sheet and try to work on the copied one , the original also change. What am I m missing ? Much appreciated.
Great information, I have taught myself everything I know about Excel just by using it. I know there is much to learn and I am finding that companies want people that know how to use pivot tables and pivot charts. you make it easy to learn. Thanks
Thank you Kenneth! Yes, this is definitely a skill that is in high demand by employers. I'm happy to hear you are learning more about Excel. And don't worry, we will never run out of things to learn... ;-)
Thanks. Very good tutorial. Clear step by step instructions and easy to follow and implement. The data sheet was so helpful to practice. I can't believe how easy it was after watching your video.
bro i m soooooooooooooooo thankful to u, as ur video taught me so well i got job in a multinational company due to command on dashboard, thanks bro may God bless u for your doings
Hands down the very best tutorials on UA-cam Jon thanks. I am running into a problem I'm hoping you can help me with. I conduct trips to locations for my company. At these locations I conduct multiple briefs. My boss likes to ask me how many trips I've done during a quarter or year. On my source data sheet I've assigned an ID for each trip (location) and an ID for each brief. This creates duplicate IDs in the Trips column. When I create a pivot table to show frequency of trips per quarter it "counts" or "sums" up the duplicates giving me an incorrect total. I can't figure out how to get it to treat the duplicate trip IDs as one trip. I hope you can feature the solution in a future video. Thanks again for the excellent tutorials. You're a life saver!
This is a fantastic tutorial! I had to do an Excel test which was quite advanced and I've never used Pivot Tables before, this is just so clear to understand so a massive THANK YOU!
Great Videos! Another cool trick when you need to investigate a pivot table category. In this video at 5:00minutes you started to investigate the (blank) category. Instead of going back to the "source data" sheet and setting data filter --- just double click on the category within the pivot table and Excel will create a new sheet of data already filter to the (blank)s - i.e. "Shipping Charges" You can investigate quickly and then delete this extra sheet.
The key feature of this presentation is the slow pace of explanation. A good instructor.
I never had any formal excel training, with excel campus, Jon have help me improve my efficiency. No wonder then your videos are that popular. Thanks Sir.
Thanks Samba! ;-)
I hated pivot tables but watching your videos, I'm liking it now. Thank you so much

PS I have told a gf of mine that just got a huge excel spreadsheet dumped on her lap of your awesome videos!

Glad you like them! Thanks! 😀
Hie Jon, i must say your videos are really helpful....your explanations are quite comprehensive and full of clarity..great work man!
Glad you like them!
Best & clearest presentation I ve ever seen. Very well done!
This is a fantastic tutorial! I had to do an Excel test which was quite advanced and I've never used Pivot Tables before, this is just so clear to understand so a massive THANK YOU!
I had been intimidated by Pivot Tables until watching your videos. Thank you so much!
