When I went through conversion therapy, I went to a group that used this same curriculum: the moral inventories, the genograms, and blaming your parents. It really messes with your head. You are there to get help but it only drives the shame deeper, and you end up hating yourself even more. You create an alternate version of yourself so you can be accepted while your soul is slowly dying.
@@AhmedMohammed-kz6ej Much better. I went through two years of legitimate therapy with a psychologist and did a lot of healing. I'm now openly out and even a therapist myself now.
The irony is, he is sincere enough in his faith that the manipulations don't work on him. And you can see Sykes start to panic when he realizes he can't reel Jared back in.
It's scary because that form of "therapy" is real, and it's incredibly harmful. Does nothing but cause issues with intimacy and disassociation. Horrible, insidious stuff that comes in the guise of spiritual enlightenment.
“Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. Matthew 7:1-2 NIV
I hated hearing him bring up Henry! For one thing how dare his father really disclose something traumatic that happened to Jared and how dare Sykes try to push Jared to talk about it insinuating that’s his “sin”. That wasn’t some consensual fling it was a vicious assault if anything it was absolutely that predator Henry’s sin not Jared’s!
Why do the pastors always want full detailed information about what the boys done in private 😳😳😳😳 and why do they assume all the guys their acted on there homosexuality
Best scene in the entire movie in my opinion, it really was the climax where Jared wouldn't take the mental abuse anymore

I hope you are ok.
I’m really feeling that right now. I just got out of one.
I’m so sorry you had to go through that.
Considering the way the dad responded earlier, Jared would have actually been justified being disgusted
And the fact that he told this idiot pastor about something incredibly intimate and personal that was none of his business. Agree 100%
Even so, its weird to make someone forcefully be angry or even hate someone

Conversion therapy gotta be the most ptsd-inducing thing this country can allow someone go through.
UniVurse it should be erased from this country
And people wonder why the suicide rates are so high

I like how he was the only one that had the courage to stand up for himself
I felt uncomfortable watching how that man can control your emotions & what u think
3:10 YOU DON'T KNOW ME! YOU'RE ALL CRAZY!
That was so satisfying to hear from Jared. Lucas Hedges is truly a great actor. Love him so much.

Lucas was great in that movie
This makes me cry so much I don't even know what to say
I...just have nothing. Nothing. I want to cry, vomit, punch, and scream all at the same time.
I can totally relate to each and every emotion that Lucas showcase in this movie. He was living this role!
That man is trying so hard to make that boy seem immoral
He doesn’t hate his father, he hates his values
There’s a difference

You see that flag hanging on the wall? It is disrespectful to hang the flag in that hell hole. The flag has no place in that room.

The man who was in “change” had no credentials I believe as a pastor or psychologist.

Some religious people.. preachers really.. dont understand their the problem 😂
I graduated from this exact program, and this movie took a LOT of artistic liberties. Half truths and lies abound in the film.
It doesn't matter, it still exposes the scams that conversion therapies are.
Could you elaborate?
