Random memory: Back in the late 1960’s My mother led this song at the first funeral I remember attending as a probably 4 year old kid. I remember her singing it a LOOOONG time as people filed by the casket viewing the body.
Sister Edna Gallmon Cooke is one the artist that I learn how to sing from. My Mom loved her singing and so did we. This was singing -- from the soul and to the Lord. Her music was perfect--no screaming, no jazzing things up. Just music from the heart!!!!
This song was both my grandmother's and my mother's favorite song. I listened to this song during my childhood and became one of my favorite songs as well. I have lost most of all my family members that were instrumental in raising me but I Pray and I know, what ever gate to The City, that I may enter in, they'll all be 'At The Gate I Know....Amen❣️🙏🏿
This my grandmother's mother's song. My grandma raised me, playing this all the time. It came to me out the clear blue sky about two weeks ago. My great grandmother died the year I was born. The Ancestors still connected... Im going through a cross road in my life right now. Hope it's a good sign...❤️🖤💚 R.I.P momma... 88" babyindabuildin!
When I first heard this my ears were hooked. I immediately began to search for who was singing this great song. It is now in my heart to be sung when the cares of this world try to overtake me.
Fred "Doc" Suttles, WJIZ FM 96.3, Albany, Ga played this song regularly. He brought Gospel, R&B and Soul to the area. His station was known as the "Georgia Giant" for it covered southwest Geoergia, Florida and parts of Alabama.
I heard this song when I was about 6 years old. I loved it then and I love now. I love the old style of telling a gospel story through gospel style music. Call and response is always a great way to bring understanding to every listener imagination.
This is the stuff on which I was raised. I remember this record from my childhood. My grandmother had the 45 and used to play it all the time. A lot of the gospel from this period was very depressing though. Like the stuff by The Consolers.
I have been told that I am related to her through my great-grandmother, Victoria G. Davis. In doing my genealogy research related to slavery in Richland County, SC, I also discovered that the Gallmans/Gallmons and my descendants were on the same Weston family plantations. Have been trying to find other members of the family.
What a Great Family you came from. She was a Great recording Artist. I meet her when I was a little girl in Jacksonville, FL. She was at MT. AREAT BAPTIST CHURCH, THAT WAS OUR FAMILY CHURCH. NEVER WILL FORGET HER OR THAT VOICE. ❤❤❤❤❤❤💖💖
Thank you so much!! I love, love, love this song and haven't heard it in many years. Some churches (mine, anyway) don't sing them and I really appreciate your taking the time make these artists' work live on. To God be the glory!

My favorite Edna Gallmon Cooke track. All of the vocals are on-point, and the organist is seriously working it out.
