Water Watcher

According to the Massachusetts Office of Vital Statistics, 57 people drowned in Massachusetts in 2023. In fact, drowning is the leading cause of death in children aged 1- 4 and the second leading cause of death for children between the ages of 5-14 (CDC). These deaths are very preventable.
Because the summer months experience the majority of these incidents, the Norfolk District Attorney's Office has developed a program intended to designate one responsible adult at any waterside gathering to watch the water.
Often, parents and adults become distracted when they’re poolside and that distraction could result in a terrible tragedy. Remember, when everyone is responsible no one is responsible. The bright orange hat designates the Water Watcher to minimize distractions to assure those in the water are safe.
So, stop by BPD headquarters and grab your FREE Water Watcher hat and lanyard for you next event. There is a limited amount available at the front desk of the police station.
