- This time I bring you another jewelry project. I wanted to share another type of stone inlay using solid wood (boxwood which it's really hard specie) and lapislazzuli (stone).
If you are interested in buy a ring like this, please visit: etsy.me/1M6683B
Beautiful design. I especially love that the color from the Lapis Lazuli is not overbearing.
Thank you Eric!
I've seen a lot of tutorials, but this one is definitely one of the coolest.
Thank you man!
I loved everything about that. How you made the inlay was cool and the cinematography was great.
Thanks Dustin! I've been loving macrophotography sine I buy my first DSLR and I usually try to add some close-up shots during my videos. I'm happy you enjoyed it. Thanks for your support, I appreciate. Greetings from Barcelona!

The ring turned out beautiful. Great job!!
Wow! You must be happy with the result! Looks amazing.
Thank you Taras!
Woodworking Barcelona No problem :). I bought a Lapis stone earlier this week and it arrived today. I might try something like you've done. Thanks for the inspiration!
nice ring, nice video, I like the "winter is coming" effect of the CA accelerator...
Keep on trucking !
Thanks Celmar, I enjoyed plenty catching those macro shots for the video. Hehe, "winter is coming effect", I'll use this expression in further videos. While I made this ring it came to me another awesome TV serie. I'll guess you which one is... ;D
❤❤❤❤
I wish you did one at least once a week..thank you for this!
Hi Mariella. I really want to be able to offer you videos more often but I'm so busy at work and it's been so difficult to find some time. It's good to know that there's people like you interested in my work and willing for more projects. Thanks again, Cheers!
That looks beautiful... And it's even hand crafted... Great work!
Thank you Kevin! I'm glad you like it.
Wow. So beautiful. I'm going to have to try that with my lathe.
Sure! Thanks
theres a mesmerizing beauty to lathe work
Truly thank for you comment. I'm glad you enjoy my work.

Just discovered your channel. Very nice work, must give this a try!
I'm glad you enjoy my videos Scott. I'm doing big effort to produce it regularly but nowadays it's difficult to me to get some time. Anyway, it's so much rewarding to see how people like you encourage to make the projects I share. Greetings from Barcelona!
Superb and cleverly presented video... very nice ring..
+Heath Cope I'm glad you enjoy this. I need to make more ring related projects.
Crazy!!! Beautiful!
Thanks Lior! It's seems I will have to make more jewelry projects ;D

oddly satisfying
+SelectTV Thank you very much! I'm glad you enjoy this.
Very nice!
Thank you very much! Regards!
This is incredible and absolutely amazing and the ring is beautiful! What compound did you put on just before the wash was that a thin layer of lacquer?
RV4LIF3 Hi RV4LIF3! Thanks for come and comment. I'm glad you enjoyed this project. I use CA glue (cyanoacrylate). Regards from Barcelona!
Un muy buen trabajo, mis respetos
+adnvandan Muchas gracias! Un saludo.
I attempted this with Jade, it was much too hard and would take an eternity to sand. I bought some lapis and it worked like a charm. Thanks!
Thanks for the info. I'll avoid Jade then. Cheers!
That is such a beautiful ring, and it just so happens that i have one of the very same stones that you used to make your ring.
+Daniel Frakes (ICARUS) Nice! Lapislázuli is quite amazing stone to use as inlay on jewelry or even in general woodworking.
Beautiful job! Love your channel!
Thanks man! I feel very rewarded to be followed by other woodworkers. May I do more jewelry projects? Cheers!
looks amazing
+TAK Ism. Thank you!
Amazing! I want a lathe now.
There are some inexpensive lathes to start with, like mine. With some practice you will be able to make awesome things. Regards!
Woodworking Barcelona i want a latte too... Can You Tell me about your lathe? Amazon ring!
It's from Axminster online shop. It's a 1218VS I guess. Under 400$. It has variable speed control. It's just ok for start turning small objects. There's lots of clones of the same model.
Woodworking Barcelona ty
Congratulaciones y salud! (Sorry any mistakes, I'm learning Spanish)
Muchas gracias Luciano.
Best video yet!!! The detailed close up footage was very good and the relaxing music made it very pleasant to watch :) the result is amazing! Is the blue rock expensive?
Thanks mate! I enjoy taking those close ups. I'm glad you like it. I guess you'll need to contact Walter White to buy some of this blue rock ;D
So beautiful! I wish I could make this!
+Melanie Elliott I'm glad you like it!
Beautiful work!
Thank you very much Tim!
Great looking ring. I was wondering how you were going to turn down the stone and glue mixture without chewing up the tools. How long did it take to cut it down with the sand paper. And what grit did you wind up using? It looks like 80 grit, but I imagine that is because of being so zoomed in.
Hi mate! I normally use 60 or 80 grit sandpaper to turn down the stone. For a ring like this it would take me about 10 minutes. It's important to not be aggressive because of overheat. For this reason and to prevent cracks it's better to use a high quality hardwood like Boxwood, Purple Heart, Granadillo or maybe bentwood. I hope it helps. Regards from Barcelona!
vary nice work. Thank you.
You're welcome John.
¡¡Me encantan tus videos!!.
So nice!
+Link Hoang Thank you Link!
great video. that will probably be my next project. thanks.
+wakely wanderer I'm glad it encouraged you to do so. Cheers!
I really would like to do something one day, maybe in summer, ragards from Jaén, Spain
Pues adelante! Solo necesitas algo de paciencia y algunas herramientas. Un saludo
Impressive, im think im might have to copy your idea and make a movie of this for my channel.. Great craftsmanship.
Thanks man, I'm glad this inspired you to make so. Best regards!
Beautiful.
Thank you Bo. I'm glad you like it!
great work

+ALI AHEER Thank you ali!
I love it and am doing this as a project as my own for school with different wood and style, and out of curiosity what glue would you recommend for keeping the broken up bits of lapis contained
+Samuel Copeland I recommend to use CA glue.
For some reason, I found smashing the sight of smashing the stone hilarious.
+the Insane Artist lol
Hello Woodworking Barcelone. I would really like to ask you for advice. I'm looking for a fun hobby to do outside of the house and I'm thinking of buying a lathe (around 130 euros) to start practicing with things like making rings and candlesticks. Do you think it's safe for me to spend my money on one? I have literally no expierence with woodworking. Is it hard to do? How long did it take for you to become this good at it?
Nice video. Thank you.
Before you crush your stones, put them in a plastic baggie for much less waste.
My process is very similar but I apply two coats of plastic polish after the last coat of CA.
+Charles Stromme thanks for your advices Charles.
wow that looks amazing wish i could have such a ring or to could have maked me my own
+Rocco Naude Of course you can do this. You only need some tools and patience. Regards!
Hermoso maestro, felicidades.
+hugo alvarez gracias Hugo, un saludo
Hello,
can you tell me what you apply at the end ? after finish with sand ? is it CA glue ? and WHY ?
thanks
Very nice work and great techniques. How do you size the ring to fit ? Is there a specific size center that you start with?
+Jim Nottingham Thanks for your visit and comment Jim. There's no specific size at all, I work depending on the size ring target. Regards!
Jest piękny
Podziwiam Twój talent :]
Thank you Alicja! Regards
Beautiful!
Thanks mate. I really appreciate that. Regards.
beautiful
+david No name Thanks David!
esta fantastico
Muchas gracias Gabriel. Celebro que te guste. Un saludo!
hello, i want to say that the ring turned out beatiful and the video was great. i have started making rings too but i dont have lathe. however i have a rotary tool kit. i have a question; the stone you used, lapis lazuli, is it easy to work on? you grinded it on lathe, but can i grind it by hand after i glued it? i would be glad if you answer me as soon as possible.
Thanks for coming by and comment. Lapislazuli it's not a hard stone to work with but grinding it by hand would be too much. But you can sand it by mounting it in your rotatory tool and use a 36 grit sand paper for grind it to the ring surface. Good luck!
that was faster than i expected :D thank you
That was quick, yeah xD! Cheers!!
beautiful...
Thank you Krisi. I'm planning to make more jewelry content. Regards!
very nice ring! what kind of chuck do you use to hold the wood while you work?
It's an Axminster Clubman SK100.
Really nice. What kind of glue did you use for guing the stone? and what is the finich you put on ? :)
+Emmanuel Munch Hi Emmanuel! The answer to both questions is CA glue (cyanoacrilate glue). Regards!
+Woodworking Barcelona What is the sandpaper used after the ca glue to bring the stones down?
Beautiful and well videotaped. Thanks for the share!
It's just rough one, like 40 o 60 grit one. Thanks for your comment.
This makes me want to get into woodworking. Could I start by making jewelry like this, or would I have to work up to it?
It is not necessary to get into woodworking but there're some specialized tools you will need if you want to achieve really wood results (for example a wood or metal lathe). Regards!
+Woodworking Barcelona the puns are strong
Hi! You do make a wonderful wood ring! Could I have a question, you have used many different way to make a wood ring. Which way do you think make the solidest wood ring?
+ruien chen The solidest wood ring you can achieve is by using shavings, by far. Regards!
Awesome!
+Lazy watchsmith Thanks!!
Hi! This video is so soothing! What lathe do you recommend for wooden rings? Thats all I want to do. Also with the lathe itself you create the hole of the ring? Thank you!
+Joby Remigio Hi Joby! If you're only interested in ring making I guess you only need a small lathe. The most important thing is precision. Maybe a good option could be a small metalworking lathe. You can make the center hole in the lathe. I hope it helps you. Regards!
So a small metalworking lathe. Thank you!!
Hey man, just a few questions for you...what type of chuck are you using to hold the piece once you've got it down to the dowel size and are just working on the face of it (at around 0:42) ? Its hard to get a look at it with how close you are. But I'd like to know about that chuck and how the piece fits in.
If you ever get a chance, it would be cool if you did a full tutorial on making a ring like this. This type of vid is great for a quick overview, but for someone trying to learn it would be awesome for you to actually take us through your whole procedure with instruction and commentary as you went. I imagine you're busy, but think about it! Thanks very much for the video!
Hi Anthony. I'm glad you get interested in my work. The chuck it's a Axminster CK100 Clubman. It performs really well. I'm aware there're more people like you interested in a full tutorial of how I make a ring. I must say I will pleased to do so whenever I get more free time again (notice it's been at least two months since I posted my last video). Thanks for your concern and patience. Regards.
What chuck jaw did you use? Or did you use it at all
It's a sk100 from axminster
wow thats incredible 0-0 im so jealous XD fantastic job dude
+Joe Cobb Thank you joe! I'm glad you like it. Cheers!
that is so amazing! i tried to make that ring on pinewood without a lathe, turns out its not a prefect circle, can you try to make the one ring from the lord of the rings lord saurons ring, that would be so cool.
Ethan Marcus Tuazon Lol, I wish I could by I need to start learning to work with metals (silver, gold...) before that. Regards!
where do you get your gems/stones? love your work by the way!
+Jonathan Halabe From a local store in Barcelona. Thank you Jonathan!
Espectacular!!
+Eloy Workshop gracias!
I love the look you have achieved, but turning against the grain (between centers) makes a weaker product. Have you ever had a ring made this way break? Thanks for the video
+Dennis Adams I didn't experienced a break of my product. Anyway, if you're concerned about that you can always use bend laminated wood to add stability and flexibility. Regards
wonderful creature , which uses glue to attach the lapis lazuli ?
+Emanuele Parrinello It's CA glue, Emmanuel. Regards!
Do you speak/understand italian?
+Emanuele Parrinello I don't speak Italian but I can understand more or less as its similarities with Spanish and Catalan.
Beautiful rings and page, just came across you and I am impressed! However, can someone explain to me the point of the mesh pads? Especially if a coating is going to put on after, and sanded after?
+Christopher Corapi It's just like what you said. First apply CA glue and polish with micromesh pads.
+Woodworking Barcelona ah so sand, CA glue, Polish with mesh pads. Thanks!
You're welcome.
Hey,
It´s an amazing idea!!
What kind of glue and polish did you use?
Thanks a lot for the great video! :)
+DidiD I only use superglue.
Thanks!
Nice work : ) but I must ask what was your musical selection for this video?
Thanks! That song is called "Malmo Sunrise", and you'll find it on UA-cam Audio Library. Cheers!
Thank You
Hey, awesome work!
I want to make a ring too, but I don't have a lathe, and as I see, they are quite expensive. What do you recommend to use instead? I think I have some tools in my father's workroom, so I have drill, files, etc. but no lathe
+B. Jaca Thanks for your comment. It's not problem at all. In future I've planed to share a ring project using only a drill. Be patient till then. Regards!
Woodworking Barcelona I can't wait to see it!
harbor freight has a beautiful lathe perfect for ring making for 129.99. $140.00 after tax in my state.
Hi Mitch! Not yet, but I still planning to do it (besides, it's near to my top "to do" list). Thanks for your patience. Regards!
Could you try making a usb drive case (remove plastic replace with wood)?
Nicola Adriaensens Sure! I'll note this idea for further project! Regards!
Hey,
like that ring...
Can you tell me the "name" of the stone or where i could by that?
Thanks...
+Jonny W. Hi Jonny W. It's called Lapislazuli (you can find this info on the video). Regards!
very beautyful piece, and skilled crafting !
what did you use to seal the surface at the end (3:17) ?
MasterFPunkt Thanks MasterFPunkt! I'm glad to share my work with all of you. Answering your questions, I use CA glue. Regards!
Nice video and good result: I have only to appoint one thing: it is a big waste of (expensive) stone. I guess the stone sanded away is at least as much as the amount inlayed. I think this is a good starting point but it require further experiment aimed to limit to minimum the wasted stone.Apologize for that but, as this is the very first time I see such way to produce stone inlayed wooden ring, right at this moment I have no idea what to do.
+Roberto Gatti Hi Roberto. I think you're wrong on the price of that stone. I got from a local for a quite low price... Regards.
Very good in that case, probably stone market around my home is not as cheap as in Spain. Good to know. All the best.
Thanks a heap!
Nice work, very inspiring i am also making one right now. What did you use to coat it at 3:15
+Johannes Christensen It's CA glue. Good luck on your attempt!
wow!
Very nice 👍🏻
+WHITEFORD PIPES HANDMADE By Michael David Thanks!
I am new to this wood thing but what is a accelerator that you used on the ring? What exactly does it do? And any brands you might recommend?
+sfnjsbfsda fjsdfsda hey, that's a CA glue accelerator and it's used to accelerate the bond of CA glue. Any bran will suit you.
I really want learn how to do this now
Now you know how but you will need some tools and bunch of practice. Good luck!
+Woodworking Barcelona haha well I got a lathe for Christmas and I'm trying to find something cool to lathe . I'm still not quite sure how to use everything
Hiya! Could you please list the tools needed to make wooden rings like this? I'd love to experiment and have access to a lot of tools.
+Luptuous Life All the tools are shown during the video. Manily you need a lathe, some lathe chisels and gouges, sandpaper, CA glue and polishing pads. Cheers!
Might try one with malachite
+JB11's Channel Nice! I'll be glad to see the results.
Hey man, sorry for the question but I'm new in the wood carving and just wanted to ask you what are all the tools you are using?
No problem. In this video I use mostly the wood lathe with some turning tools. There's lot of info on internet. Regards!
what sanding paper grit did you use to flat down tge stones? when I used a red sanding paper like the one you're using, my stones turned all red
I've never experienced that. I use regular chromium oxide sandpaper for wood. I progressively use 80/120/240 and then my set of polishing stones for the Dremel. Regards.
wow.
+babbolo71 glad you like it.
Hello, first congratulations! Beautiful. I would like to send me here in Brazil? If so what price?
+fsdn I have an etsy shop but by now is temporarily closed. Sorry about that. Regards!
+fsdn I have an etsy shop but by now is temporarily closed. Sorry about that. Regards!
+fsdn I have an etsy shop but by now is temporarily closed. Sorry about that. Regards!
What material was the blue that you crushed made of?
Lapislázuli (stone)
Thank you! It's CA glue (cyanoacrilate glue). The sanding pads for polishing are "micromesh pads". I hope it helps. Regards!
CA glue ?
No problem, it's my pleasure to help you to learn new techniques. About your question, yes indeed, on 3:18 I'm applying CA glue. Please be free to ask whatever you want to know. Regards from Barcelona.
I'll be glad to see that. You can share it on my facebook page or even tag me on your pic on Instagram. Regards!
